Hostels in Yunnan, China

This was my first time staying at a hostel from this chain, the one near Kunming's Zhuanxin Farmers Market, and I remember it had a beautiful bougainvillea bush! I chose Qincheng Hostel again, this time picking this specific branch because it's super close to Cuihu Lake, Wenlin Street, and Yunnan University. Their restaurant offers a great variety of food and drinks, and I particularly love their curry beef rice. There are activities every day, and especially on Saturday nights, they have a concert. The singer's voice is unique and beautiful, and listening to music in their cozy bar is just the most comfortable experience. 'Hei Mu Ya' (Blackwood Cliff) is their elevated platform, nestled among huge eucalyptus trees. It's really peaceful on rainy days and nice and cool when it's hot.

Fantastic hostel! They have an incredibly cute and well-behaved dog. The yard is also very clean and tidy. From the third-floor terrace, you can see Yulong Snow Mountain, and it's super comfortable just to relax at the hostel on a good weather day. Loved it, will definitely be back!

This hostel completely changed my perception of hostels! The location is absolutely fantastic, right next to a shopping district and subway station, saving so much time for exploring and dining. The rooms are cleaned daily, and the bed linen is always fresh. The bathrooms are dry and odorless. Each bunk has a blackout curtain, an individual power socket, and a small storage locker, so you can draw the curtain and have your own private space for undisturbed rest. The common lounge has a warm atmosphere, where travelers from all over share stories, making it easy to find companions for outings. The owner is attentive and reliable; I was able to check in smoothly even arriving late at night, and they patiently answered all my travel questions. The price is great, the facilities are complete, and the value for money far surpasses other accommodations nearby. It's my top choice for solo travelers, highly recommended!

The room was clean, and the front desk staff was super friendly and always ready to answer any questions. Our king-size room also had access to a common balcony, which was perfect for lounging in the sun and enjoying views of Erhai Lake. The soundproofing in the room was excellent. They also offer regular shuttle services back to the hostel. I really hope I get the chance to visit Erli Wanxiang and Dali again someday! 😁

I've stayed in many hostels across the country, but this is the first one I've truly wanted to recommend to everyone! The atmosphere is fantastic, the scenery is beautiful, it's clean and tidy, and the owner is lovely. It's especially amazing to just sit on the sofa and zone out when the sun is out. This is hands down the best value-for-money hostel I've ever stayed in. The owner even gave me a ticket to a stage play! If you love ethnic culture, you'll be absolutely thrilled! Highly, highly recommend!!!

The place is very, very pleasant and the male host is gentle, friendly and helpful even with no english spoken. The dorm is quiet, spacefull and airy. Toilets are clean with hot running water. No soaps of any kind provided. There is a nice terrace where to relax. Unexpensive loundry. Bed is clean and comfortable with bed light and plagues. The only thing that really disappointed me was that the hostel doesn't provide TOILET PAPER: it is abnoxious, most of all because no one advises you (wechat information message) and you have to realise by yourself! Close to the long distance bus station and a colourful fresh food local market.

Traveling to Dali solo, I blindly picked iYe Youth Hostel and it was absolutely the right choice! The overall vibe is fresh and healing, with a courtyard full of Yunnan charm. You can see Cangshan Mountain just by looking up – the atmosphere is just perfect. The rooms are spotless, with ample storage space, and the bathroom is well-divided, making it very convenient to use. The common areas were a pleasant surprise. Whether it was relaxing in the afternoon or chatting with fellow travelers from all over the world and sharing travel stories in the evening, it felt incredibly comfortable. The owner is easygoing and knows all the best spots in Dali, giving out niche tips that helped me avoid many tourist traps. My stay here was relaxing and happy; not only was it comfortable, but I also met many interesting people. It was a truly warm stop on my Dali trip, and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling alone!

Located right next to the core area of Xishuangbanna, the surrounding commercial environment is lively with plenty of large supermarkets and shopping streets. The bedding was relatively comfortable and clean, but many of the bathroom facilities were broken. Also, the cleanliness of the hostel's common areas could be significantly improved. Hopefully, it will get better and better!

Perfect place for a female solo traveler. The host is sooo friendly and responsive. I had my own private room and everything else needed was available in case I didn’t bring it myself. This place feels very home-y and allowed me to fully rest. Everyone who stayed there was very open minded and talkative. Loved staying at Oli’s!

This was my first time in Shangri-La, and traveling solo, I was curious about hostels as I'd never stayed in one before. I saw Pine Cone Hostel recommended on Xiaohongshu, so I looked it up and it turned out to be really great! I stayed here for a total of 4 days. Three days in a private room and one day in a 4-person dorm. The front desk staff member is leaving tomorrow, which is a real shame – I'll definitely stay at Pine Cone again next time I'm in Shangri-La!!! **Service:** The front desk staff were very proactive in resolving issues and had an excellent service attitude. After check-in, they also sent over welcome information and local travel tips, which was very thoughtful! Besides the front desk, other staff members also actively helped out whenever they saw a problem. **Facilities:** The private rooms are very well-equipped, with a heater, humidifier, and a dressing table. They even provide disposable bath towels, regular towels, and bottled water. For the 4-person dorm, the towels and bottled water are placed in the respective lockers. The public areas also have excellent facilities. The shower area has curtains, hooks, and toiletries, with plenty of space, strong water pressure, and ample hot water. The restrooms have both Western-style toilets and squat toilets, and overall, the hygiene is impeccable. The laundry area has a dryer, washing machine, and even a shoe-washing machine – how thoughtful! The makeup area has large stools, hair dryers, and curling irons, completely catering to women's needs. Hand soap is provided at the sinks, and there's enough space between each sink so you won't bump into each other while getting ready, haha. **Hygiene:** Both the public service areas and guest rooms are kept very clean. **Environment:** The overall experience was fantastic. It was my first time staying in a hostel with private rooms, and it felt very special. I recommended it to my friends right after checking in. The male and female dorms are in separate buildings, and the common areas are very cozy, like a huge 'Friends' apartment. The hostel offers breakfast and dinner, which are both good value for money. It's actually not too far from the ancient town – just a few minutes by taxi, or about a 20-30 minute walk.
