Hostels in Yunnan, China

We only stayed 2 nights with 1 full day there. Location great. We had an easy 15min Didi from Kunming train station. Our full day there we walked to Green Park from the hostel (about 25mins) going via Wenlin Street, and then on to Old Street. Staff very friendly and helpful, helped us book a restaurant on our first night. Good level of English spoken so could have a proper conversation without resorting to translation apps. We didn't make full use of the hostel facilities but all looked good. Our room was as pictured and as expected. Breakfast was a choice of Western (toast, fried egg, fruit) or local (Pork Noodles). They were both OK, though the noodles were better. The hostel is laid out in a courtyard type style with the barand billiards at the bottom so noose does tend to travel to the rooms. It was still rather noisy one evening at 11:30pm (quiet hours supposed to begin at 11pm) with groups chatting loudly, but I did WeChat the staff at reception who did respond very quickly to ask people to keep noise down. This was good service but if you are looking for the quietest night sleep this may not be the best choice for you. Cleanliness was good, but the bin in our bathroom was not emptied as you are asked to put toilet tissue in there I think it is important to be emptied daily. We were supplied with disposable slippers in our room, but even though they are in a plastic bag, one pair was wet when opened. They could also do with a bath mat for outside the shower especially because some water escapes past the curtain when showering. Overall it was a great stay, good location value and staff.

This hostel has really nice common areas. The entire accommodation spans 6 floors, and each room uses a key card for access, plus the soundproofing is quite good. More than half of the guests are foreigners, which creates a great atmosphere for international interaction. The staff are exceptionally polite and provide detailed answers to every inquiry. Even the cleaning staff are very courteous when they see guests, and they keep everything spotless. They also offer complimentary postcards, bottled water, and bath towels.

Very well located at walking distance from all major sightseeing sites in Shangri-la. New structure with comfy beds (6 female dorm), light, Chinese sockets and two USB ports for charging your devices, the room has A/C for hot air and the bed an electrical blanket, the curtains allow for good privacy There are lockers with security code for storing your luggage The bathroom is ample with good pressure hot water and a Western style toilet, good quality toiletries and toilet paper The common areas (one downstairs and one upstairs) are large, luminous and well equipped with tables, chairs and sofas

This hostel is absolutely fantastic! The design is beautiful and very international. The location is superb; just a short walk to National Highway 214, making it super convenient for buses and taxis. It's only a few hundred meters from the South Gate of the ancient city. It's quiet at night, and the atmosphere during the day is great. I've stayed in many hostels in Dali, and this one feels much more international, with more foreign guests, but the local guests are also very friendly. The common areas and rooms are among the cleanest I've ever seen. My skin is very sensitive, so the cleanliness at 'Escape Time' (逃离时光) really put me at ease! The front desk staff are friendly and very kind. The courtyard is huge and the common areas are beautiful. Highly recommended, and excellent value for money!

First, some praise: ① Compared to the quadruple rooms in other hostels I've stayed in, this one is more spacious and the hygiene is good. ② The location, tucked away in an alley off the main road, makes it quiet enough if there's no one being noisy. In my opinion, the shortcomings are: ① The room truly has nothing in it – no disposable toiletries whatsoever. While it does make it look tidy, it's quite bare. ② The hot water flow in the private bathroom is a bit weak, lacking any real pressure. ③ The room door isn't soundproof, and the floor creaks loudly when walked on. Facilities: The sheets and duvet covers were given to me upon check-in, and they did look a bit old.

My friends and I stayed in Kunming for a week. Before planning our trip, I chose this hostel on Xiaohongshu. It's very close to Kunming Station, about a ten-minute walk, and easy to find with the directions provided by the owner. The owner is lovely, very gentle and soft-spoken. She was also quick to respond whenever I needed help finding something. My roommates were all pretty quiet; almost no one made any noise. The hostel's balcony is beautiful and cool, perfect for enjoying breakfast. Before coming to Kunming, the weather forecast said it would rain every day, but in reality, we had sunshine almost every day, with rain only in the evenings or early mornings. I highly recommend visiting!

It's great. I often come to Xishuangbanna, and hostels are my first choice when traveling alone. This is my second time staying here. The rooms are spacious and clean, the surrounding area is quiet and peaceful, and there are convenient places to eat. So, this is my first choice when visiting Xishuangbanna.

It's a hostel with a very homely environment. The manager will invite you to drink tea with him, the courtyard is a very chill area to hang out in and even spend all day to the sound of flowing water and surrounded by plants. There is a kitchen available too, and the manager brings water from the well daily for the use of the guests. The dorm was comfortable and the lower beds have curtains but the upper ones don't. The manager sometimes organises events for the guests, such as the time when we went picking mushrooms and visited a local market from where we bought more mushrooms which were cooked for dinner, all at a very good price. The location is excellent, just 1 minute walking to the south gate of the ancient city. I will not hesitate to stay here again when I come back to Jianshui.

I only stayed one night and then left. During the off-season, for just an extra 20-30 RMB, I could have stayed in a guesthouse with air conditioning and a private room. I've stayed in Hangzhou and Chengdu in 2023 and 2024, and had a great impression. However, this Lijiang branch, perhaps due to too many guests or cleaning staff being overwhelmed, had rather poor hygiene. 1. There were dried-up contact lenses left by the previous guest on the bedside table. 2. Before going to bed, there was a large bug on the bedsheet… it really scared me. 3. The bathroom was a bit dirty, especially the door which looked encrusted, like a public toilet… the water stains in the sink from brushing teeth and washing up hadn't been cleaned in time and looked very dirty. 4. Some of the bedside power outlets weren't working (both the two and three-prong outlets had no power, fortunately, the front desk later moved me to another room). They should really check these. The young staff provided very good service, but the cleaning aunties definitely need to be given stricter instructions.

I highly recommend this youth hostel. The rooms are big, the windows are big, and the owner's care is reflected in the small details. There are handwritten reminders on each bed. It is rare to have a private bathroom. I have stayed in many youth hostels in Mangshi, and most of them have public bathrooms. Only this one has a private bathroom, which is a small highlight. The public area is very large, and it is very comfortable to blow the wind on the rooftop at night, which is very suitable for lying down.
