This hotel is located near Lake Taupo, offering distant views of the lake. It's also conveniently close to the famous 'plane' McDonald's in town. It's a resort-style hotel with both paid and free parking areas. The single beds, at 0.9 meters wide, are a bit small, but the room itself is quite spacious. I was particularly pleased with the bathroom, which had two sinks, a bathtub, and a shower. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The maple leaves outside the hotel were beautiful, and I even saw a rainbow 🌈.
As we had a glowworm cave tour booked, we decided to stay overnight in Waitomo. The guesthouse was ideally located, with a great restaurant just around the corner, which made dinner very convenient. We stayed in room 40, and the bedroom came with an electric heater. Free parking was also available.
We loved the room which came with a balcony overlooking the beautiful lake Taupo. The grotto and the heated pool were amazing and provided us with a very relaxing stay.
Stay fo 1 nite. Overall did not enjoy much of the hotel as we check in late and left the next morning. The only experience was an earth quake that woke us up at 8.06am
It was a very windy day and raining and a storm was in brew for us.. but we areaxh safely despite road closure and land slides and flash flood
Thank God
Great location, near restaurants and ******.
There is complimentary car parking but it is first come first served. Valet parking for $42. Room was clean and quiet.
Although we had booked the economy room at the back with garden view, we had a small private terrace at leisure. And finally *** could sleep with the door open and singing birds, because there were mosquito nets (the first time in NZ after more than three weeks!). Equipment modern and at a high level. We would return, but the next time with water view book - these units looked fantastic even for longer stays!
The room is very big and suitable for family living. The single bed room is very quiet to sleep in. The most beautiful thing is that there is a small yard in the room where you can sit outside to eat breakfast, watch the sunrise, watch the sea, and there are many seabirds flying in front of you. You can also touch the geothermal water when you walk out, and the room can also be directly heated and smoked
Initially, we were given room 101, but it was too noisy due to the external air conditioning units facing an inner courtyard of the building. Eventually, Chris moved us to room 412. Even though it was next to the laundry room, it wasn't nearly as loud, and we were finally able to get some rest. The room is very spacious, and the beds are large and comfortable. The shower pressure was fantastic. We had a pleasant stay. Thanks, Chris!
This hotel was wonderful. It was located on the lake and had amazing views to wake up too.
The hotel is very family friendly and includes a heated pool and tennis court. I enjoyed going for a morning walk along the lake too.
It was a large apartment and the staff were accommodating too.
I would definitely stay here again.
We stayed one night en route to Hobbiton and liked it so much that we stayed another 2 later in our trip.
Great location, and Cambridge is a relatively easy base to get to other places from.
Beautiful decor throughout, nice finishings and really peaceful.
It was very busy during our stay (around Christmas/NY) so a little wait for food/drinks but that’s to be expected. We had positive interactions with all hotel and restaurant staff.
My only feedback is that the switches in the rooms have blue lights on them, which, for people that like a black-out room, can disrupt sleep. Hopefully an easy fix!

Very Good
AAnonymous UserThe name may give you some illusions, but it is actually a standard motel. Many rooms are hard to find at night, but the location is good, close to the lake. The interior of the room is standard and the hygiene is good.

FFluffyTotoroI arrived in Taupo on the morning Air NZ flight from AKL, upon arrival at the Chevron Motel, 4 hours before the published check-in time, I had planned to ask to have my luggage stored while I go about other business. The receptionist kindly asked me to wait while she checked to see if my room was ready, and if so, I could have my room right away. Lucky for me it was, I was very pleased with the initiative and flexibility offered. My booking included a living area with dining table, kitchen, sofa, spare single bed, a separate bedroom, and a dedicated parking space. My stay of 5 nights was very comfortable, and I will definitely use this motel again on my next visit. I would like to offer a few suggestions for improvements, first - a split type AC unit was present in the living room, it would be great if there could be a second unit installed in the bedroom. Internet connectivity, available 24/7, while adequate, did have limited bandwidth affecting video streaming from Netflix/YouTube etc. Lastly, it would be great if the TV provided in the living room had a larger screen. In summary, I was very pleased with my stay at the Chevron Motel, the room offered great value for money, and I was completely relaxed and comfortable during my stay.

GGuest UserWow! We go upgraded to two bedroom apartment which was really handy since it has washer/dryer plus air conditioning in both bedrooms and open plan living area. Very clean and modern apartment with good appliances (Bosch cooktop, oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer). The apartment is sound proofed. They also have 4 varieties of Zealong Tea Estate teas along with the Zealong cups plus coffee pods. The hotel is next to the lake and shops so it’s quite convenient. My only issue is that outside of night time sleeping hours, the air conditioner would turn off by itself after a few minutes. Other than that, I really enjoyed staying at this hotel and would recommend it to others.
GGuest User⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 — Comfortable, Clean, and Great for a Short Stay
This isn’t a fancy or high-end hotel, but it’s definitely a great place to spend a couple of nights—especially if you’re visiting Rotorua and Taupō. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which is really all you need for a short stay when you’re out exploring most of the day.
Don’t expect 5-star facilities or luxury features, but the overall experience is solid and very safe too. The stay was pleasant, the environment was tidy, and it offered good value for money. A reliable and convenient option for travellers passing through or wanting a simple base to explore the area.
Rreturn visitorA tiny motel, has basic amenities. Didn't know there's a communal kitchen until we were leaving.
It's a good stop over point, but most of the town closes either early or has long weekends, so make sure you have supplies beforehand. When we arrived there there was no reception, had a number and person to ring, the entrance is a bit tricky ”around the back”...yep that's exactly what it is.
KkeniofdavalleyThe room we stayed in (3 bedroom townhouse) was part of an old motel next door that was acquired and integrated into Quality Inn Acapulco. Its very old and dated, much of the facilities are ran to their life end.
That said, the motel is clean and convenient.
