I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely consider staying here again.

The room had two beds, which was great for our family of three – no cramped sleeping arrangements! The design was truly unique, and my child loved it. The front desk service was excellent, and the room was cleaned promptly. Complimentary bottled water was a nice touch. The location was also quite good, with a convenient store downstairs (though a bit pricey) and a coffee and ice cream place nearby that was pretty decent and affordable, offering a good variety of local noodles. My child wasn't a fan of the noodles, and the steamed buns at 'Zheng Hao Shi' were incredibly expensive, but you can buy vouchers for them online.

This is my third stay, I had a free upgrade room to Deluxe room, that was really great. For the first two times, I was talking about feeling too cold after shower as cold air from the room will be going into the bathroom through the airventilated door. This time, the room is too warm, the temperature inside the bathroom after shower is just nice, but too warm to sleep at night, covering the quilt makes me too warm, without it would be too cold. Told the receptionist couple of times and they said maintenance had tried to turn it on to the max but the speed was still slow. However, I have a friend staying for the same night in different room, the fan speed of the air-conditioning in his room was really strong. I guess there's something wrong with the air-conditioning in my room. Other than that, everything's great.

I booked this hotel for one night. The location is not very convenient as there aren’t many food options nearby, but it is quite close to the airport. Due to our flight timing, we arrived at the hotel earlier than usual. We understood the official check-in time, so we politely asked if there was any chance of checking in earlier. If not, we were willing to wait, we only hoped they could let us know once a room became available. There were two counters. We were initially at the second counter (one next away from the 1st counter), but the receptionist asked my husband to move to the first one. No issue, we moved over as instructed. During the check-in process, the male receptionist repeatedly asked whether I booked online. I answered yes, yet he asked the same question again. Since he already had my IC in his hand, I expected he could see the booking details in the system. I honestly didn’t understand why he kept repeating the same question. I then politely asked if we could get a room earlier should there be any available. Instead of responding in a friendly or helpful manner, he kept repeating, “Our check-in time is 2pm,” more than three times over our check-in process. We clearly understood the check-in time, but his tone and attitude were not friendly at all. A simple “If we have a room available, we’ll try to arrange it for you” would have been enough, but instead he just repeated the same answer without any consideration. On top of that, both receptionists, the male and the female were chatting and laughing among themselves at the counter in front of guests, which felt quite unprofessional. Still, we were thankful that we eventually managed to get our room at 12:35pm. Overall, the experience was disappointing and lacked basic hospitality. I’ve been travelling and staying in different hotels, and I’ve never encountered service this unfriendly before.

This is a great hotel located near the city center and very convenient for the airport. The facilities are excellent, with everything you need, including a swimming pool and fitness center. It's a good option for a quick overnight stay if you arrive late at night, though the breakfast is just okay. The front desk staff were fairly friendly. The scent in the elevator was a bit odd, though.

From my window on the 10th floor, I had an amazing view of the entire Kota Kinabalu bay and city. I was lucky enough to catch the night view of Gaya Street and even the first sunset in KK. It's rare to find such high-rise buildings here. I'm not sure if the in-wall air conditioning has been cleaned. Basic amenities are provided. I'd rate the stay itself a 3-star, the view a 4-star, and the TV a 5-star – watching 'Swallowed Star' was absolutely thrilling!

I arrived at the hotel around 1:30 PM and was told check-in wasn't available yet. So I registered my passport and stored my luggage, and they said they'd bring it up to the room later. After going out for a meal and a walk, I returned to the front desk around 3:30 PM, only to be told they couldn't find my reservation. I explained that I had already registered, and then they informed me the room was under my husband's name, which was why my name wasn't found. But the problem is, they had already registered all our family's passports! Then another issue arose – they said the room wasn't ready. I pointed out that it was well past check-in time and that this was the hotel's problem. Eventually, they upgraded our room. The room itself was decent, and they even set up the sofa bed as requested for our family with a child. Just as I was about to relax, I used the toilet. I pressed the flush button on the wall, and the entire flush plate fell off, which gave me quite a fright. The facilities are really subpar. The hot water for the shower also wasn't working, and I had to call staff to fix it because their shower button design is so counter-intuitive. Did I think that was the end of it? There was another surprise when we were leaving. After checking out, my child's smart watch was missing. The location showed it was still at the hotel. I asked the front desk, and they said they hadn't found it. I showed them the watch's location, which clearly indicated our hotel and even the floor. The staff then took us to the room to look, but we couldn't find it. Finally, I asked them to find the cleaning staff, and sure enough, it was with them. But why didn't the cleaner report finding the watch immediately? If it weren't for the smart watch's tracking, it would have been impossible to prove. Luckily, we got it back. Additional note: The hotel pool is on the top floor and is quite small (a far cry from the Shangri-La).

Facilities: The room facilities are relatively new, but the hallway was very cold. They provide large glass bottles of water. The bathroom counter is spacious and the three-way separation (toilet, shower, sink) is excellent. Our room faced Signal Hill and had a super large balcony, but for families with kids, there wasn't enough space to hang clothes. The breakfast restaurant has a great view of the sea. The pool is small. Cleanliness: Very good. Environment: It's convenient to get anywhere. Kota Kinabalu isn't big, and from here, it's just a short walk to Gaya Street where you'll find all the popular influencer spots. It's also super close to both jetties and Suria Sabah shopping mall. The hotel lobby has two entrances: one for vehicles, which is where you take taxis, and a pedestrian entrance opposite Suria Sabah. Service: The front desk staff were very nice. When we arrived, there were no rooms available, and they mentioned we might have to take a connecting room. However, they later managed to arrange a higher floor room that wasn't connecting for us.

Stayed for three nights. Lots of Koreans and Chinese guests, but no Chinese-speaking staff. Arrived around 1 or 2 AM, and there was still someone at the front desk. Only realized on the last day that it wasn't far from Gaya Street, so I walked back. Pros: New, large bed, great value for money, and a photogenic pool. Cons: No breakfast. Still recommended though!

Facilities: All amenities are available. Cleanliness: Spotless and tidy. Environment: Prime downtown location, with a street full of massage parlors downstairs. The bar street is a 5-minute walk, and Gaya Street is 15 minutes away. Service: Warm and friendly. My only complaint is the excessive noise! The sea view from the room is breathtaking, but the noise from the bar street across the way goes on until after 2 AM!

DDepression_Before I arrived, I was worried about the noise from the construction and the outdated facilities based on some reviews, but it turned out to be an unnecessary concern. I don't think the facilities are as old as some made them out to be, and although there was construction, I could barely hear it from my room. It definitely didn't disturb my sleep at night, and I had a great night's rest! I really need to highlight the service – it was truly exceptional! Almost all the staff were incredibly polite and friendly, whether they were delivering room service or helping with luggage. On my last day, my check-out time was early, but my flight wasn't until much later. Before I even had a chance to explain my situation, the front desk proactively offered to store my luggage for me and even gave me a pass to use the hotel lounge. My bags were also handled with great care! Overall, it was a fantastic experience! If I come back to Kota Kinabalu, I'll definitely choose this place again!

AAnonymous UserJust got back home yesterday, and I'm determined to write a thorough review for this hotel. My kids also encouraged me to review it, because it truly deserves it. We booked four ocean villas for two nights, and I initially thought our chances of encountering issues would be higher with such a large booking. But we didn't run into any problems at all! In fact, I even regretted not booking more nights, mainly because I was put off by too many negative reviews on Ctrip. 1. **Service:** If you're comfortable communicating in English, the hotel service is absolutely fantastic. Most of the staff speak excellent English and were diligent in explaining activities, facilities, schedules, and programs. They showed us where everything was in the room and proactively informed us about the cost if we broke any of the toiletries bottles. The higher cost for broken bottles is because the contents are genuinely expensive – they're pure plant essential oil toiletries. As someone who regularly uses essential oils, I know they shouldn't be stored in plastic. Plus, these toiletries left our hair and skin feeling moisturized, not dry. I found them to be very effective. If you're worried about breaking them, just place them on the floor. 2. **Seawater:** The seawater is quite clear. While it's not a 'jelly blue,' the clarity is definitely good. We did experience a heavy downpour one day, and the water became a bit murky the next, but it was still perfectly acceptable. The photo of the large sea turtle looks a bit blurry because it was taken with a waterproof phone case, but the water itself was actually very clear. That was taken from under our water villa. The manta ray was photographed near the stairs of our water villa room. 3. **No Outside Food Policy:** They don't allow outside food in the rooms because it attracts ants and monkeys. The front desk has a dedicated area for storing snacks. We didn't bring any snacks into our room and always closed the door promptly, so we didn't have any bugs or insects. A crucial point: absolutely do not feed the monkeys! 4. **Meals:** We had all our meals at the hotel restaurant, and the food was truly delicious. A main meal costs around 90+ MYR per person (about 160 CNY). We felt the food was excellent, with a good variety of dishes and drinks beyond just the main courses. The kids' portions were a bit small; our four children ordered 7 kids' meals, and eventually, we just ordered them regular adult meals instead. 5. **Hot Water:** Regarding previous reviews mentioning no hot water, one of our rooms indeed had this issue. We called the front desk, and it turned out there's a 'water heater' button on the wall. Hot water was available within 15 minutes. So, don't hesitate to ask! Don't be shy; good service often requires you to speak up. 6. **Free Rentals:** Paddleboards, small boats, fins, and masks are all available for free rental. 7. **Marine Life:** In the ocean, we spotted baby sharks, baby manta rays, triggerfish, archerfish (the ones that shoot water), porcupinefish, and even a large sea turtle (which is rare, but we got lucky!). 8. **Welcome/Farewell:** We received a welcome ceremony and a welcome drink upon arrival. Upon departure, we sometimes had the whole staff waving goodbye to us. 9. **Guest Demographics:** There were a lot of European and American guests at the hotel, some Koreans, but not many Chinese guests. I wonder if this is due to the excessive negative reviews on Ctrip. 10. **Cleanliness:** The hygiene was excellent, and the rooms were very clean. Each room came with life vests, so you could go snorkeling anytime. That pretty much covers it. I believe if your English communication is good, feel free to chat with the front desk and restaurant staff; they are very engaging. At 8 AM, the hotel organizes a free jungle trek. It was a bit tiring, and we didn't see much – just hiking uphill. For reference, my experience this trip, and with these four rooms, was genuinely excellent. Having been to places like the Maldives, Bali, and Koh Lipe... I think this hotel offers great value for money, and I would definitely come back. Hotels at this price point on Koh Lipe before were significantly worse.

HHai,JudyThis seems to be a budget hotel, probably a chain. The service was pretty good, and the hygiene was decent. We had a minor issue during our stay, but it was resolved perfectly in the end! There was a Chinese staff member at the front desk, which was incredibly helpful and made us feel very welcome, especially since there was no language barrier for communication.

AAnonymous UserI didn’t pay much attention to the hotel’s details because I was out scuba diving every day. This hotel is old, so if you’re looking for a super clean and modern feel, this isn’t the place for you. They provide a good breakfast, and the staff even packed it for me since I had to leave early for diving. The location isn’t far from the main center, and there are plenty of shops nearby, which is convenient if you want to buy snacks or grab a quick meal.

AAnonymous UserThis hotel was perfect for a completely relaxed trip. I was very satisfied with the room; the balcony was great and offered a good level of privacy. However, my initial idea of stepping right onto the beach didn't pan out. You can see the beach from afar, but that's as close as you get! You actually have to walk through a large area of greenery, so it’s quite a distance from the sand. The only upside is that on a day like this, you can sit outside all day without getting any sun, which was very comfortable. It’s absolutely ideal for just lying back and looking at your phone. Truly a perfect spot for men who just want to chill out. The Ocean Wing family room would be better for families with two children. For us, with just one child, it felt a bit wasteful as the top bunk was empty, haha. The Garden Wing pool is livelier and also a good spot for watching the sunset. If you like a more vibrant atmosphere, stay there. If you prefer quiet, choose the other side. Our family room, 1802, was actually about the same distance from the Garden Wing lobby as it was from the Ocean Wing front desk. Walking through the connecting corridor was fine, and it wasn't hot. At night, the path with the lawn lights was also very close. The so-called Ocean Wing is actually quite quiet, and the rooms have a large outdoor resting area. As for value for money, that’s up to you to decide. The ground floor of the Garden Wing only has two small outdoor stools and gets more sun. The room itself was quite cool, with strong air conditioning. I recommend wearing long sleeves when going to the restaurant for meals – definitely long sleeves! For dining, I’d suggest the Garden Wing buffet restaurant; they have more variety. Regarding booking activities, I recommend emailing the hotel in advance to confirm your booking number and the activities you want to do. Otherwise, don't expect to be able to book activities like the night animal viewing on the spot. There are only slots for 10 people per day, and usually, three families are enough to fill them. So, I couldn't book anything during my two-day stay, which was very disappointing. One friendly aspect might be for children who need childcare. Upon check-in, they give you a daily activity list in both English and Chinese, and children can be supervised. Daily drinks and food are replenished. You can actually order Grab food delivery, but there's an extra 10 RM delivery fee. It’s really far, over ten kilometers! So remote... There’s a restaurant nearby called Dongfang Tea Restaurant; you can search for it on Dazhong Dianping. Add the owner's phone number on WeChat, and he'll come pick you up! It can save you a lot; it's about 90 RMB per person. The hotel's buffet dinner isn't great, not as good as the breakfast buffet. That's what people who tried it said; I didn't, haha. Breakfast lasts from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM, and I usually went around 9:30 or 10:00 AM and stayed until after 10:30 AM. The shuttle bus schedule is also very useful in my pictures. For check-out, I left around 12:30 PM, and the front desk told me to be in the lobby 15 minutes early for the bus. The drop-off time is excellent, taking you to Imago Shopping Mall. However, they can't drop you off at the airport directly; there are only two airport shuttles, one in the morning and one in the evening. Finally, here's a tip: there's a QR code in the lobby to register as a Shangri-La member. Just scan it and register your membership number to receive a complimentary four-piece travel size shower gel set. There's also Chinese-speaking staff at the front desk (see picture). You can ask for her if needed. Summary: For older children, swimming before sunset is perfect, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, watching the sunset all the way – it’s stunning. Cons: Far from the city, and activities are difficult to book. Food: They have all the usual stuff, so it's just okay. Overall, it's a hotel very suitable for a completely relaxed and laid-back stay.

AAkmaaalI recently stayed at Sutera@Mantanani for a-night, and it was magnificent an unforgettable island experience. The room was spacious enough for both of us! WE ARE SO HAPPY that they provides everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The rooms are well-equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea and coffee making facilities, and safety deposit boxes. There’s no need to worry about bringing toiletries or coping with the island heat, as all essentials are thoughtfully provided, making it easy to unwind and fully enjoy the island experience. We spent the morning watching the sunrise and the tide coming in with the clean ocean and beautiful Mount Kinabalu.Other than that they also have kayak rentals, and there is many activities we have done such as sunset walk, ATV, volley ball with other guest, and a romantic night with a bon fire and skies full of stars. The staff were super friendly and helpful, especially during the boat transfer from Rampayan Jetty, they helped us load our luggage, AND they also very helpful in explaining the trip itinerary, ensuring guests could manage their time well and make the most of their stay, while also clearly informing us of rules and safety guidelines to ensure everyone’s well-being. Meals were served buffet-style in the resort’s open-air dining area, with fresh local seafood, grilled fish, nasi lemak, and tropical fruits, breakfast included eggs, toast, and local pastries. We appreciated that the chef accommodated a vegetarian request without issue. Overall, Sutera@Mantanani is a perfect island retreat, and I would came back here and highly recommend it to couples, families, or anyone seeking a quiet, nature-filled getaway.

GGuest UserThe closest hotel to the pier, hands down. I don't know how the ratings are calculated... I'm not judging it by domestic standards; when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Local facilities just aren't that great. Based on what I saw online, I thought it would be terrible, but the room was surprisingly clean. Although there's nowhere to hang clothes to dry, I'd advise anyone who loves going out to sea and exploring the pier to stay close by. The front desk staff were also great; they have a WeChat for communication and translation. Don't bother looking at the negative reviews or the ratings. I stayed in town for 6 days, and the first place, which had the highest rating, was personally the worst.
