Hotels With Breakfast in Shanxi, China

This is a great hotel, and most importantly, it's right across from the airport, perfect for a layover. We happened to arrive during the rain, and the hotel was very accommodating, arranging both airport pick-up and drop-off. If you were to walk, it's not far at all, about ten minutes. However, if you have a lot of luggage, walking might be a bit inconvenient. The hotel's hygiene is good, and the breakfast is also quite nice (the Yuncheng Braised Chicken was delicious). If you have an early flight, you can eat ten minutes earlier and still make it on time. Note: Due to the rain, I didn't get any photos showing the hotel's proximity to the airport.

We spent out last night of our trip at Kempinski Taiyuan, and it did not disappoint. The receptionist upgraded up to a room on a high floor with a view of the city. They also gave us fresh fruits and free minibar. They had everything you would expect of a five star hotel, and the location is in a bustling part of the city. Would definitely come back.

Awesome! 👍🏻 We arrived late by high-speed train, and the owner drove directly to the station to pick us up. All the restaurants in the ancient city were closed, so the owner lent us his electric tricycle to go eat outside the city. Riding that little vehicle through the ancient city at night was truly a special experience, haha. As for the room, it had everything we needed, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The large kang bed was quite unique, and even the mouthwash cups were disposable. Since it was the off-season, the owner even upgraded our room. Although the wallpaper was a bit peeling, it didn't affect our stay at all. Moreover, right outside the inn is the owner's own travel photography studio. I'm so glad I didn't book one of those trendy shops recommended online in advance. The photo shoot here was absolutely fantastic 💖. The makeup artist was very gentle and recommended suitable hairstyles and makeup based on my face shape. I loved the photos, and there was absolutely no pressure during the selection process – completely voluntary. A perfect ancient city experience, I'll definitely recommend it to my friends!

Nice stay at Pipa oils Inn inside the Datong Ancient City. The hotel is clean and the staff are helpful, also to is convenient for our visit to Hanging Temple, wooden Pagoda and Yungang Grottoes as well. Datong Ancient City is a beautifully preserved walled town that reflects the rich history and charm of northern China. Once a strategic military stronghold during the Ming Dynasty, the city is surrounded by impressive stone walls and gate towers that give it a grand, historic feel. Inside, the streets are lined with traditional courtyards, ancient-style buildings, temples, and lively shops selling local snacks and souvenirs. Walking through the city feels like stepping back in time — you can admire the ancient architecture, try Datong’s famous noodles and pastries, and experience the relaxed pace of local life. In the evening, the city becomes especially magical, with the walls and streets lit up in warm lights, creating a romantic old-town atmosphere. Datong Ancient City is not just a historical site but also a living town, blending culture, food, and history — a perfect place to slow down and soak in the beauty of China’s northern heritage.

The carpet hygiene was poor. Breakfast was a nightmare. The restaurant was huge and chaotic, with no host to seat guests. It was a free-for-all, with people scrambling for tables and often sharing, which was very unfriendly. The breakfast quality was mediocre. Plates often ran out and weren't refilled, and the coffee was terrible. The specialty lamb offal noodles were decent, but most other items were pre-made and tasted very average. However, the hotel hardware was top-notch, with luxurious decor. The rooms were large and spacious, and the design was very practical. But the staff... honestly, it's hard to describe. I stayed for three days and don't typically remove my key card, but every day the staff would take it out. 😅 The first night, the water temperature wasn't hot enough. Perhaps the hotel was fully booked, but my child kept complaining about the cold during their shower. As someone from the North, I found the room temperature comfortable, just a bit dry.

This hotel is almost next to the airport terminal, super convenient for early morning flight. It is clean and service is excellent. Manager on duty - Han, Yueliu helped arrange a room in the main buidling, which is what I preferred. Everything went well. Will stay here again next time when I come back.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a hotel of this quality in Shanxi. Originally, I had planned to drive straight from Chongli back to Taiyuan, but because of the 'Jishan' brand, I specifically made a stopover in Datong for a night. The room was excellent, offering views of the ancient city wall, and the modern design perfectly blended with the historical landmarks. I brought my child, and the hotel even has a kids' activity room. The swimming pool also had a full range of children's amenities. The entire stay was fantastic; all the staff were incredibly warm and hospitable, making us feel truly at home. I'll definitely be back to experience it again in the summer!

The night view of Shanxi Hotel itself is already beautiful. We booked a twin room, and it was perfect for our family of four as we could push the beds together. The toiletries were excellent, especially the disposable slippers which we even took with us to reuse – they were really good quality, unlike the typical ones you get. The service was also fantastic, and the breakfast was great. The hotel's location is super convenient, close to everything like Wuyi Square and Lvzu Temple (we got free tickets with our room key!). For dinner, we took a Didi (taxi) to 'Tubaozi' (found it on Dazhong Dianping). It's a famous local chain restaurant, and their signature dishes were delicious and very generously portioned. They even gave us a large jug of sea buckthorn juice for free! Just a tip, make sure to reserve a table in advance, either by phone or online, as it's a very popular spot!

Our recent stay started off great, with the front desk staff providing professional and efficient check-in service, leaving a very positive first impression. However, the breakfast experience the next day was incredibly disappointing. It was clear the hotel failed to prepare adequately for the high volume of guests during the New Year's Day holiday, highlighting a significant management shortfall. There was only one staff member directing guests in the breakfast area, which was completely insufficient to manage the peak-time crowd effectively. We waited about 7-8 minutes at the restaurant entrance without being seated, and were eventually told to ”wait downstairs” without any proactive effort to find us a table. Peak holiday traffic is predictable, yet the hotel didn't add temporary staff, set up queuing reminders, or implement any crowd management solutions, which clearly detracted from the guest experience. While the hotel did deliver breakfast to our room later (arranged through Ctrip customer service, which was a nice gesture), these issues really should have been prevented by better prior management.

This hotel may seem expensive, but it really is worth it. Super clean public areas and super clean rooms. Bright, light and with a large tv (which you can stream from your phone / laptop) , desk, fridge, kettle, etc... The toilet has a bidet feature which is great. The location is opposite street food vendors and Linfen park. There is no noise from them, so don't worry about it. But it is around a 30min walk / 5 min car to the nearest shopping area, so I'll mark it down a little on location. Facilities are great, great laundry room that also has little items like a lint roller, wool pilling remover, color catching sheets etc... are all provided.  The gym has two technogym treadmills and a rowing machine and bike. All great quality but the gym has no weights at all.  But the cardio machines are very high quality.  Service is great. everyone is super attentive and polite.  The bed is high quality and pillows are lovely. USB A and USB C on each side of the bed.  Wifi is very good and fast, I was able to remote play into my PS5 without issue (just use the streaming TV wifi)  There's a separate desk also. The shower and toilet are separated which means one can shower while the other person can still use the toilet. Towels are great too.  There is one issue I found was that the room was too hot and the AC didn't do much, the staff gave me a desk fan which was helpful.  This hotel may seem costly, especially as many other hotels in Linfen have good reviews, but this is my third hotel in Linfen and this hotel is worth it. If you don't care about the weights in gym then you don't need to think about it and book this place.
