This is a great hotel, and most importantly, it's right across from the airport, perfect for a layover. We happened to arrive during the rain, and the hotel was very accommodating, arranging both airport pick-up and drop-off. If you were to walk, it's not far at all, about ten minutes. However, if you have a lot of luggage, walking might be a bit inconvenient. The hotel's hygiene is good, and the breakfast is also quite nice (the Yuncheng Braised Chicken was delicious). If you have an early flight, you can eat ten minutes earlier and still make it on time. Note: Due to the rain, I didn't get any photos showing the hotel's proximity to the airport.

We spent out last night of our trip at Kempinski Taiyuan, and it did not disappoint. The receptionist upgraded up to a room on a high floor with a view of the city. They also gave us fresh fruits and free minibar. They had everything you would expect of a five star hotel, and the location is in a bustling part of the city. Would definitely come back.

Awesome! đŸ‘đŸ» We arrived late by high-speed train, and the owner drove directly to the station to pick us up. All the restaurants in the ancient city were closed, so the owner lent us his electric tricycle to go eat outside the city. Riding that little vehicle through the ancient city at night was truly a special experience, haha. As for the room, it had everything we needed, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The large kang bed was quite unique, and even the mouthwash cups were disposable. Since it was the off-season, the owner even upgraded our room. Although the wallpaper was a bit peeling, it didn't affect our stay at all. Moreover, right outside the inn is the owner's own travel photography studio. I'm so glad I didn't book one of those trendy shops recommended online in advance. The photo shoot here was absolutely fantastic 💖. The makeup artist was very gentle and recommended suitable hairstyles and makeup based on my face shape. I loved the photos, and there was absolutely no pressure during the selection process – completely voluntary. A perfect ancient city experience, I'll definitely recommend it to my friends!

Nice stay at Pipa oils Inn inside the Datong Ancient City. The hotel is clean and the staff are helpful, also to is convenient for our visit to Hanging Temple, wooden Pagoda and Yungang Grottoes as well. Datong Ancient City is a beautifully preserved walled town that reflects the rich history and charm of northern China. Once a strategic military stronghold during the Ming Dynasty, the city is surrounded by impressive stone walls and gate towers that give it a grand, historic feel. Inside, the streets are lined with traditional courtyards, ancient-style buildings, temples, and lively shops selling local snacks and souvenirs. Walking through the city feels like stepping back in time — you can admire the ancient architecture, try Datong’s famous noodles and pastries, and experience the relaxed pace of local life. In the evening, the city becomes especially magical, with the walls and streets lit up in warm lights, creating a romantic old-town atmosphere. Datong Ancient City is not just a historical site but also a living town, blending culture, food, and history — a perfect place to slow down and soak in the beauty of China’s northern heritage.

This hotel is a real value for money. It has excellent location, modern room amenities. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast has a wide range of varieties. The hotel has a restaurant called Fenglingge which serves great local cuisine with reasonable price. For hotel guest, there is a RMB60 restaurant voucher given to offset the restaurant bill at Fenglingge. One of the staff at Fenglingge, Liu Guangzhen 战慉珍 is very attentive and helpful and provides great service.

This hotel is almost next to the airport terminal, super convenient for early morning flight. It is clean and service is excellent. By chance, I stumbled upon a newly opened restaurant called ”Ji Xia Shan” in Datong. I was worried about where to spend my holiday, so without any plans, I impulsively bought a plane ticket and flew over. After a few days, I was very satisfied with every detail. The interior design incorporates the stone carvings and mural colors of the Yungang Grottoes, complemented by harmonious soft furnishings, providing a comfortable living experience that blends with history. My favorite feature was the swimming pool. Since it was the off-season in Datong, there were no other customers at the pool during my visits, making it perfect for someone like me who had only recently learned breaststroke to freely try out the beautiful pool. The lifeguard (I think) even gave me some instructions on how to learn freestyle. It's great to be able to learn swimming while having fun! lol. If I had to point out a drawback, it would be the service, which could be improved. During my stay, I had to explore and ask around to find all the hotel facilities, including the room amenities. The layout and signage, designed for service, weren't user-friendly; relying solely on guests to discover them wasn't ideal. I can only imagine the despair of searching for the pool in the cold wind on my first night, finally discovering it behind a door requiring a key card. Later, I stumbled upon a beautiful tea room and wanted to try it, but after selecting a paid package, I was told the tea master wasn't there and I'd have to brew the tea myself – quite disappointing. However, the team apologized for it, so it was alright. Also, I found an art gallery on my own and was told by a staff member that guided tours were available, but advance booking was required. Ideally, there should have been a brief introduction beforehand, which would have been a good first step in understanding the hotel. Hopefully, this can be improved in the future.

Overall, the service was quite good. There was a minor issue with the water temperature dropping, but the hotel's recovery measures were effective. They promptly upgraded our room and the service generally kept up, so I'd give it a good rating. The hotel looks stunning at night when it's lit up, and there are many diners, so parking spots are usually full. It's super close to Wuyi Square, and a stroll in the evening felt really nice. Hotel guests also get free access to the adjacent Chunyang Palace, which is a nice bonus. Though not large, it's quite distinctive and worth a 30-minute visit.

The room truly felt like a sanctuary for weary travelers. It was impeccably clean with no strange odors and a clear wet/dry separation in the bathroom. The bedding, made of soft, skin-friendly Xinjiang cotton, combined with excellent supportive memory foam pillows and superb soundproofing, allowed me to instantly unwind and achieve deep sleep. The toiletries were of high quality, and the attention to detail was evident, even down to the thoughtful alcohol wipes next to the toilet, ensuring a top-notch sense of hygiene. However, the service truly is Atour's standout feature! The front desk staff were warm and efficient, making check-in and check-out smooth and quick. Every staff member I encountered greeted me proactively and offered helpful suggestions for local attractions and dining. When traveling with children, they even proactively provided kids' slippers and toiletries, and sometimes offered free room upgrades based on needs. Returning late at night, I was greeted with comforting congee, and at check-out, I received a thoughtful local souvenir. This level of considerate care made me feel truly welcome and valued.

This hotel may seem expensive, but it really is worth it. Super clean public areas and super clean rooms. Bright, light and with a large tv (which you can stream from your phone / laptop) , desk, fridge, kettle, etc... The toilet has a bidet feature which is great. The location is opposite street food vendors and Linfen park. There is no noise from them, so don't worry about it. But it is around a 30min walk / 5 min car to the nearest shopping area, so I'll mark it down a little on location. Facilities are great, great laundry room that also has little items like a lint roller, wool pilling remover, color catching sheets etc... are all provided.  The gym has two technogym treadmills and a rowing machine and bike. All great quality but the gym has no weights at all.  But the cardio machines are very high quality.  Service is great. everyone is super attentive and polite.  The bed is high quality and pillows are lovely. USB A and USB C on each side of the bed.  Wifi is very good and fast, I was able to remote play into my PS5 without issue (just use the streaming TV wifi)  There's a separate desk also. The shower and toilet are separated which means one can shower while the other person can still use the toilet. Towels are great too.  There is one issue I found was that the room was too hot and the AC didn't do much, the staff gave me a desk fan which was helpful.  This hotel may seem costly, especially as many other hotels in Linfen have good reviews, but this is my third hotel in Linfen and this hotel is worth it. If you don't care about the weights in gym then you don't need to think about it and book this place.

GGuest UserThis hotel combines the convenience of modern high tech with the spiritual beauty of traditional culture. The rooms themselves are constructed around courtyards that give a sense of what life might have been like in Datong many centuries ago. In the lobby and in the rooms, murals decorate the walls with elegant designs of birds or flowers. The cabinets, bench, and floors made of wood and the countertops made of marble work together well and draw on design choices that are classicly, universally appealing. At the same time, the entire room is wired with the amenties of modernity. The toilet has a seat warmer and a light that turns on when you lift the lid so that you can find it in the middle of the night. Similarly, there seem to be motion-sensitive lights throughout the room that light up when you walk in the middle of the night so that you can find your way around. The water in the shower and the bathtub is able to get very hot (which I love!) and has high pressure. There is also a top-of-the-line hair dryer. It's the perfect blend of high tech and traditional amenities! If I have one complaint it's that the room was so hot that I had to open my window to let in the freezing air, and still the room was hot! That shows how effective the heating system is! The serivce at the hotel is also extraordinary! All the members of hotel reception are very friendly. And they send someone to your room shortly after you settle in to give you a platter of fruit, which was fresh and seasonal and artistically chosen it seems. They also have 24 hours service in case you need anything. My friend went into the lobby early in the morning shouting about coffee, and the staff came out quickly to make him a cup. The hotel is also very clean. The blankets, the pillows, and the sheets are as white as snow. The floors are free of dust and dirt and smudges. Everything in the shower and toilet room was scrubbed clean too. And the shower drains smoothly without pooling any water, showing how well it is maintained. Finally, the location is very convenient. You can see that for yourself by just looking at the map. But I would like to add that just outside the gate of the hotel, you can see the Prince's palace, which is beautifully lit at night. What's more, my favorite restaurant in downtown Datong (I think the restaurant is translated as BeiWei Family Garden or something like that) is less than 5 minutes walking from the gate. There are also multiple shops for buying vinegar or wine or shaji snacks. In less than 10 minutes, you can also walk to all the major commercial streets. I love the location of this hotel!

JJerryb10421This establishment is fantastic. Rooms clean and upgraded, staff extremely accommodating and friendly. It has the perfect location to start to explore the town and is very close to where the nightly light show is, so an easy walk back to your room. The morning breakfast is fresh made, and more than enough food to fill you up for your day of exploration. They offer pick-up and drop-off to the train station for free. I can not express enough how hospitable the staff is and they make your stay special.

GGuest UserThe location is superb, right within the ancient city. For those driving, parking is available at the Nine Dragon Wall parking lot, just a 100-meter walk away. Despite being in a tourist area, it offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Guandi Temple is also conveniently located nearby. The service was excellent, and breakfast was quite good too. Both the owner and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. Although the May Day holiday prices were significantly higher than usual, the convenience made it completely worthwhile. Highly recommended!

MMethilanI spent nearly a week at Datong Milan/Magnolia Hotel (Dai Residence branch) and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay Location: - Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring. - 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town - 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions - 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets. I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around. Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major. Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening. Room: The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift) Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set! Service: - Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate. - Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge. - I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me. - Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here - Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed. I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

Rooms: The room is more spacious and bright than expected, the bedding is clean and soft, and the sleep is very comfortable. Perfect stay beyond expectations, see the real chapter in the details!
