Anonymous UserLake Louise wasn't fully thawed in May, so my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to a stay at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for the last day of our Banff trip. And then the hilarious thing happened! The handsome blonde guy at the front desk was chatting happily with me during check-in, handed me my room card, and wrote down room number 178. My friend and I excitedly went to the room, only to find the card wouldn't open the door. Just then, we ran into a housekeeper in the hallway. Seeing us trying to swipe into 178, she said, 'This room is occupied; they checked in yesterday.' I replied, 'Look, he gave me this room.' The housekeeper said, 'Let me open it for you to see.' So she just opened room 178?? We saw luggage inside (out of politeness, we didn't look too closely since it was someone else's room). Later, I went to the front desk to discuss it, and they told me, 'Oh, this isn't too serious an error, we just wrote down the wrong room number for you. Your room was ready.' My reaction: ??? Is this the quality of service you provide? Also, the hotel breakfast was pretty mediocre. My overall feeling is: it's okay to stay here, but not really necessary. Staying in Banff town is much more convenient for joining trips, eating, and shopping.

Guest UserThe RCL was a complete surprise to me the junior suite was recently updated and was amazing, so much space with a great fireplace, large comfortable bed, attractive furnishings, coffee, fridge, ironing board, lovely robes and a swimming pool and steam room with little gym plus free apples and flavoured water in reception, would definitely stay again. Plus the only downside was the underground parking which costs $20 per night

Anonymous UserThe receptionist was very cheerful and the room was very clean! It is also located conveniently in Downtown Calgary. However, the temperature of the shower can be a bit tricky to adjust as it will either be too hot or too cold. But I was very satisfied overall and would recommend this hotel to fellow solo travellers!

A good hotel considering the price and location. For a 3 star property, it meets the stated standard. Comfortable beds. Spacious lobby. Everything works.

I recently stayed at the Canmore Inn & Suites on Bow Valley Trail. While the property itself has potential and offers a convenient base for exploring the Rockies, my experience was significantly dampened by a factor I wasn't prepared for: a major local hockey tournament.
The ”Tournament” Factor
I was unaware upon booking that my stay coincided with a Canmore hockey tournament for U11 and U13 divisions. To say these teams ”took over the hotel” would be an understatement. The volume of children was overwhelming. This translated to:
The Pool Area: Practically unusable for other guests; it was packed to capacity with kids from morning until night.
Common Areas: Hallways and the lobby were very loud and, at times, felt uncontrollable.
Lack of Supervision: There was a noticeable lack of adult/parental supervision in the public spaces, leading to a chaotic atmosphere that isn't ideal if you're looking for a relaxing mountain getaway.
Staff and Noise Management
To the hotel’s credit, the noise did mostly settle down by 10:30 PM. I spoke with the front desk, and they mentioned we could issue formal noise complaints if needed. However, it felt like a losing battle given the sheer volume of groups.
The staff are clearly used to this, as these local tournaments bring in consistent bookings for the hotel. While the team was polite, they seemed stretched thin by the high occupancy and the energy of the young athletes.
The Room and Amenities
Pros: The location is excellent—close to downtown and Highway 1. The rooms are generally spacious, and the mountain views from the upper floors are a highlight.
Cons: The property is showing its age. Some fixtures felt dated, and the cleanliness in the high-traffic common areas suffered due to the heavy foot traffic during the tournament.
Final Verdict
The simpler solution here is a matter of timing. If you aren't in town to participate in or spectate a tournament, check the local sports calendar before booking. If a U11/U13 tournament is on, I would recommend staying elsewhere. If you are here for the hockey, this is clearly the ”hub,” but for the average traveler, the lack of peace and quiet makes it hard to justify the price point during these peak weekends.

It was all good other then,... Even though I booked and paid for the motel. They would not give me the key to the second room as I had indicated my son's name on it, during booking. So when he showed up 2 hours later I had to pay another 100 damage deposit. Seemed rather interesting. I paid for it thru travel.com, why they didnt take the damage deposit right when I got there as I had booked the rooms for my family. Everything else was good.

It takes about 20 minutes by Uber from Edmonton Airport. It cost about 33 bucks. There is also a Korean restaurant nearby... It is not a walkable distance. All schedules were handled by Uber. The sound of the air conditioner in the room… . It's so big... I turned it off when I went to sleep.

I recently stayed at Irwin’s Mountain Inn for a quick winter getaway, and overall, it’s a solid choice for those who want to be in the heart of Banff without the premium price tag of the luxury resorts.
What I Loved:
The Location: You really can't beat being right on Banff Avenue. It was a quick, scenic 5-10 minute walk to the downtown core for dinner and shopping. Plus, the ski shuttle stop is just steps away, which is a massive plus in January.
The Amenities: After a cold day outside, the 8-person hot tub and dry cedar sauna were highlights. They were well-maintained and exactly what I needed to thaw out.
The Staff: From check-in to check-out, the service was genuinely warm. They were happy to provide local tips and made the process seamless.
On-site Dining: We grabbed breakfast at El Toro Restaurant inside the hotel. The food was surprisingly good—definitely a step above your standard hotel fare—and very convenient on a chilly morning.
A Few Considerations:
Noise Levels: As some other travelers have noted, the walls are a bit thin. I could occasionally hear activity in the hallways and the hum of the heating system, though it didn't ruin my sleep.
Parking: The underground parking is a great perk (especially to keep the snow off the car), but it is limited and quite tight. If you’re arriving late in the evening during peak season, you might have to hunt for a spot.
Room Vibe: The rooms are clean and functional, but they do feel a bit ”classic.” If you are looking for ultra-modern luxury, this isn't it—but for a cozy, budget-friendly mountain base, it hits the mark.
Final Verdict:
A fantastic mid-range option for winter travelers. It’s clean, cozy, and perfectly situated. I’d definitely stay here again for the convenience and the hot tub alone!
