Stayed for three nights, and it was the most unforgettable apartment of our trip – a truly delightful surprise! I'll always remember my room number, 18-1, with its incredible oceanfront view. There's a private beach right downstairs, and delicious nasi lemak across the street. I definitely have to go back and stay again!
This was by far the most satisfying five-star hotel of my trip. At less than 700 for a room with breakfast for two, the value for money was incredible. It’s a beach hotel with a Starbucks right by the sea, food stalls, a night market, and even an iron flower performance – and the price was really reasonable. It's located on Penang's most famous Batu Ferringhi Beach, about a half-hour taxi ride from George Town or the airport, costing around 50-60 RMB. The buffet selection was incredibly rich, and they kept it open until 10:30 AM. They also have an outdoor pool where staff would periodically bring out fruit and drinks. If I ever get the chance to visit Penang again, this hotel will definitely be my top choice.
I just stayed for one night. Which was enough for me.
Be aware this is not part of the official Rainbow Resort Hotel. Upon seeing my confirmation, the receptionist told me my room was an Airbnb. The building is a hotel as well private rooms that are rented out.
The room itself was very spacious, 70 sqm with one bedroom and a living space. It had obviously been repainted recently (it smelt a fresh paint) so the walls were clean. Air conditioning and basic amenities were provided.
The building itself, has seen a lot of wear and tear. If you’re on a budget and want a spacious room it will meet your needs.
For the price I think it’s quite reasonable if you’re there for a short stay.
The hotel is next to a beach, and a swimming pool downstairs. There a few restaurants across the road.
The hotel lobby is spacious, and they have a gym and afternoon tea. When I checked in, the front desk gave me two incredibly fragrant cookies. Right outside the hotel is a night market street. That old man selling粿条 (kway teow) is super popular; there's a long line, but the taste is pretty good.
“I recently stayed at this hotel and overall had a very pleasant experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff were welcoming, professional, and always ready to assist with any requests. Check-in was smooth and efficient, which made a great first impression after a long journey.
The room itself was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The bed was especially cozy, allowing for a good night’s sleep, and the amenities provided were more than adequate for a relaxing stay. I also appreciated the little details, such as complimentary toiletries and the overall quiet atmosphere, which made it easy to unwind.
The hotel’s location is definitely one of its strong points. It was conveniently situated near key attractions, restaurants, and public transport, making it easy to get around without much hassle. This added a lot of value to my stay.
That said, there are a few areas where improvement could be made. Some parts of the room felt slightly dated, and occasional delays in service were noticeable during peak hours. However, these were relatively minor issues and did not significantly affect the overall experience.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to travelers looking for comfort, convenience, and friendly service. With a few small improvements, it has the potential to be an even better place to stay. I would certainly consider returning in the future.”
The room was new and the facilities were great. Plus, there was a sea view! It's a bit far from the city center, but overall it was good. Finding places to eat or shop for small items nearby wasn't very convenient, but other than that, no complaints. I'd choose this place again next time.
My bedroom wad super noisy, next to a road, I could hear the trafic all day long. It was better during the night.
The management gave me a quiet bedroom me for my second night as it was full for the first night.
The court was dirty but they sent someone to clean it, change the bedsheet with stains and repair the broken tap.
The bottles of shower soap are tricky as the straw is too short.
The bathroom can be locked from outside as you can see on pictures.
There are 2 marts next door, thai food and rôti stall. The bedroom doesn't look like the pictures I saw on the page.
Location : This location is very superb. The seaview was astonishing. Food stalls are everywhere nearby.
Services : Arrived late night to check in. The receptionist is not that helpful and not explaining much. Got some issues with breakfast where my room suddenly not breakfast included while we paid together for it when booking. Try to explain to the Indian F&B manager but at first he refuse to trust me and ask me to go to lobby. Thanks to Mr Vincent he sincerely apologise for the misunderstanding from the system. To the Indian F&B manager, you need to learn to apologise sincerely from Mr Vincent and learn some manners as I heard you talk bad about other customers as well.
Food : Not much choice but the food was good.
Overall, will be coming back in the future and I wish the services will be a lot better. TQ
The front desk staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The complimentary cookies made our stay feel even more special—my daughter absolutely loved both the cookies and the breakfast. The pool is spacious and well‑designed for young children, with fun activities to keep them entertained.
The souvenir shop offers beautiful, high‑quality items at reasonable prices. Our room’s balcony was very spacious, making it the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset while relaxing with our drinks.
A bit far from Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang, where the kids love to play, but very close to the core area of Penang. Suitable for young adults and seniors.
Breakfast was pretty good, and the kids absolutely loved the pool. It's not far from central Penang, so shopping and dining are convenient. The melodious call to prayer from the mosque outside lulled us to sleep.
Cons: The air conditioning in the lobby was too cold. You could see the distant Penang Bridge, but where was the bay view? :)

RRayTFirst of all the hotel rented out the rooms for individual operator.
So there will be different check in counter.
Upon check in, been told that the room card not functioning as they are doing upgrading, so every time u come back will need to call the house keeping to unlock the door.
Most importantly they charge RM 17 per night for car parking. So a lot of car parking outside which make the entrance a bit difficult

TTini88We were a bit nervous after reading the reviews online but we had a really excellent stay. The rooms were super clean and modern with a beautiful sea view and the bed was really comfortable. The rooms had a kettle with teas, a hairdryer and iron and the shower was lovely and hot. Great AC too. The pool was lovely with a beautiful view of the sea and very nice and peaceful. The location was also great with a huge food market right opposite. Overall a really lovely stay
JJudith1708A bit disappointed cos the buffet breakfast is very local. I thought it’s shangrila so it should be international. They put western for sausage snd harsh brown other than that all malay food. We booked a 2 rooms for me n my husband and another room is occupied by my children, my children room toilet is leaking so everytime we bath there will be flooding. The aircon is not so cold in both rooms even the technician repair it, it’s still not cold, cos I think its because the hotel is too old and they never maintain it. Cos u can see the dust rust in every corner.
EEeleen PhuahThis hotel is absolutely fantastic! The price is reasonable, and its central location makes it super convenient for visiting attractions and enjoying delicious food. You can easily walk to Lebuh Kimberley (Kimberley Street) for famous night market food. For breakfast, the Sia Boey market (also known as Pasar Chowrasta) on Jalan Kuala Kangsar is a must-try – their duck kway teow soup, pastries, and 'gua wa mee' (Hokkien Mee) are all incredibly tasty. In the afternoon, head to Penang Road for the famous cendol and laksa. Right next to the cendol stall, there's a coffee shop serving amazing laksa, char kway teow, and oyster omelets. Seriously, whenever I return to Penang, this hotel will be my top choice!

AAnonymous UserHad a great stay here! Easily access to the mall nearby and tourist attractions. Clean room with modern concept. Will stay here for my next visit to penang :)
NNinibaobaobeibeiThe facilities were great: the bed was very comfortable, so I got a good night's sleep. The air conditioning was quiet, and the room temperature was just right. The bathing facilities were pleasant, and there's a good-sized outdoor pool right by the sea, with plenty of people swimming. The loungers by the pool were comfortable too, and thankfully in the shade, so no sunburn!
Cleanliness: Everything was clean and tidy.
Environment: There's a private beach. The sand is decent, but the sea water isn't great and not very blue. You can see crabs on the beach, and at night, lots of them come out of their holes. Restaurants nearby close early; after 9 PM, there's basically nowhere to eat. There are still some small supermarkets though. There's a row of several hotels along the beach, all next to each other.
Service: The front desk staff were Indian, and their English had a strong Indian accent. Service itself was perfectly fine.
GGuest UserI've always wanted to stay at this hotel because of the drama 'Single Love, Dual City.' I admit I was a bit hesitant after reading some reviews about cleanliness issues before booking. However, I decided to go ahead, and thankfully, my room was incredibly clean, comfortable, and spacious. The overall layout, especially the bathroom, was very relaxing.
As soon as I arrived, a butler helped me with my luggage and brought it up to my room. The front desk staff were also lovely, with excellent service attitudes!
The hotel's garden environment is absolutely fantastic too; you could spend all day taking photos downstairs and get some amazing shots!
The buffet breakfast, though, was quite average.
If you're coming for the ambiance, I honestly think you should book without hesitation. If I have another chance, I'd definitely choose this hotel again. It's truly relaxing!!!!!
GGuest UserIf you want to enjoy the beautiful beach, facilities and hospitality of a 5 star hotel you get the right choice of Hard Rock Hotel Penang. The hotel is far away from downtown where the attractions and fantastic street food are located.
The room is comfortable and I got a free upgrade to a sea view room. My partner slept well but not me because the pillow of mine is lumpy, felt like it had clumps of filling.
Overall I am satisfied with my stay in Hard Rock and had some good times.
