I chose this hotel because of its location and really good nightly price for a ryokan, which exceeded my expectations. I was also amazed by how massive the hotel was. Overall, I had an exceptional experience staying here. It’s less than an 6-minute walk from Gero Station. The hotel seems to wait for each train’s arrival to pick up guests, which was a nice gesture. We arrived quite early—several hours before check-in—but were able to store our luggage. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff who attended to us did an excellent job explaining the hotel’s facilities, services, and amenities. The service was truly top-notch. The room we reserved was very spacious, with plenty of room to move around and arrange our belongings. Everything was well-maintained, clean, and tidy. The beds were comfortable—I slept very well. The breakfast was wonderful. The dining hall is large and well-organized; despite how crowded it gets during breakfast time, it didn’t feel packed. The food selection was remarkable, with a wide variety of dishes to try. The onsen was incredible. I took multiple baths while trying out the different public onsen—there are three at the hotel, each offering a unique vibe. The facilities and amenities were exactly as advertised in the Services & Amenities section. Out of my recent two-week trip, this accommodation will be the most memorable—not only because I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, but also because I won Monkey D. Luffy Gear 5 figures from the claw machines in their game corner. It was so much fun.

Stayed one night in Takayama and specifically chose the Japanese-style room at Sakura Ryokan. It was my first time sleeping on a traditional Japanese tatami mat, quite a unique experience! I was a bit unaccustomed to the room having no TV or chairs at first, but I guess that's characteristic of traditional Japanese rooms. I slept really well and woke up feeling refreshed for breakfast at the Miyagawa Morning Market the next day. Definitely recommended!

This was the first hotel we stayed at in Takayama. The room was quite spacious, and the public hot spring facilities were a nice bonus. In the evenings, they offered tangyuan (sweet glutinous rice balls) and ochazuke (rice with tea) as a late-night snack. The breakfast had a good variety of options, and it seemed like most of the guests were foreigners. The location was excellent, very close to the station and all the main attractions, so no complaints there. The only downside was that the prices jumped significantly for the next day due to the Takayama Festival, so we ended up switching to a different hotel.

The room was great – clean, neat, and well-designed. There's a small hot spring that looks nice, though I didn't get a chance to use it. The biggest plus was the evening happy hour with free-flowing sake, beer, and other drinks. The lobby atmosphere was also good, making it a very chill spot in a town without much nightlife. All the staff were very friendly. Highly recommend!

The hotel is located on a mountain, but they offer a shuttle service to and from Gero Station, which is very convenient. Upon check-in, a staff member gave a detailed introduction to the hotel's facilities and mentioned that the Emperor himself has stayed here twice. The staff member was very meticulous and polite. We stayed for two nights and experienced different room types, both in the main building and the annex. The main building felt a bit older, while the annex was newer and featured private onsen baths in the rooms. The hot springs were excellent. The public bath was spacious, and there were very few people when we visited. Booking a private onsen was easy, though the tubs are quite small. Breakfast was thoughtfully prepared, with different dishes served each of the two days. Most of the hotel staff can speak English, and there's even Chinese-speaking staff at the front desk.

I really enjoyed using it. All the facilities and services were great, and I was especially impressed by the breakfast service in the restaurant in the basement. If I come back to Gifu, I would like to stay at this hotel again. I highly recommend it.

📍 **Convenient Location** 🚶♀️ **Walking Distance:** Just a 5-minute walk from JR Takayama Station and Nohi Bus Center. 🚌 **Excellent Hub:** Super convenient for catching buses to Shirakawa-go and Shinhotaka. No need to rush in the morning. 🛍️ **Nearby Amenities:** Miyagawa Morning Market, Ajikura, and Akimaru are about a 10-minute walk away. There's also a large supermarket and a drugstore nearby. 🏨 **Rooms** 🛌 **Twin Beds Can Be Combined:** The two twin beds in the room can be put together to create a super large bed (over 2.4 meters), perfect for families with kids – no crowding. 📦 **Spacious:** At 22 square meters, the room is significantly larger than hotels in major Japanese cities, so you can open your luggage without any hassle. 🚿 There's a bathtub in the room for a soak. However, for just showering, the public bath is highly recommended as it's more spacious, especially when showering with children. ♨️ **Public Bath:** Separate for men and women, with one pool. You can check the crowding status on the TV in your room. 🎨 **Stylish Design:** Opened in 2021, the hotel features modern and tasteful decor, with an art-filled lobby. **Other Facilities** 👕 **Laundry & Dryer:** Coin-operated washing machines and dryers are available on the first floor. 🆓 **Free Luggage Storage:** Luggage can be stored for free before check-in and after check-out.

Free parking — the car park is right in front of the hotel’s main entrance, very convenient for drivers. The room was clean. The three‑bed room was enough for our family (2 adults, a 12‑year‑old, a 9‑year‑old, and a 5‑year‑old). Breakfast was good. The onsen was also nice and clean. They even provide complimentary popsicles after the onsen — my kids loved them. The staff were very polite and helpful. Overall, good value for money.

Stayed there for two nights. In-room onsen was good, staff at reception excellent. Food was simply terrible. Rice was cold (personally it’s simply unacceptable in any Japanese restaurant except for sushi may be?), the chef seems to enjoy making fusion dishes (and except that they were unappetising). To name but a few, we had strawberry mousse for starter, tofu (which was bitter) and pickles with miso for mains, and who’d put diced apple in an apple sorbet?? (Felt as though I was biting into ice cubes). The waitress was also extremely impatient and rushed us through our meals (we finished our dinners within 35 minutes, breakfasts 20). I honestly cannot recommend this hotel. Sorry, but no.

CcwinnieThe hotel has a calm, zen-like atmosphere that makes it easy to relax. Breakfast offers a great variety, and the bed is exceptionally comfortable. It’s also conveniently located within walking distance of the station. We paid an additional 4,500 yen for a private onsen, and it was absolutely worth it. Don’t miss trying the Hida beef—it’s a must. Honestly, I wish we had stayed another night.

GGuest UserThis was such a lovely place to stay. The room was nice and spacious, allowing us to feel at home. Not only were we taken care of by means of beautiful breakfast and dinner, but the staff were extremely helpful when we talked to them about hiking in Kamokochi. I would highly recommend booking this place especially with a meal plan, since it was nice to have food sorted after Hiking all day.
