I chose this hotel because of its location and really good nightly price for a ryokan, which exceeded my expectations. I was also amazed by how massive the hotel was. Overall, I had an exceptional experience staying here. It’s less than an 6-minute walk from Gero Station. The hotel seems to wait for each train’s arrival to pick up guests, which was a nice gesture. We arrived quite early—several hours before check-in—but were able to store our luggage. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff who attended to us did an excellent job explaining the hotel’s facilities, services, and amenities. The service was truly top-notch. The room we reserved was very spacious, with plenty of room to move around and arrange our belongings. Everything was well-maintained, clean, and tidy. The beds were comfortable—I slept very well. The breakfast was wonderful. The dining hall is large and well-organized; despite how crowded it gets during breakfast time, it didn’t feel packed. The food selection was remarkable, with a wide variety of dishes to try. The onsen was incredible. I took multiple baths while trying out the different public onsen—there are three at the hotel, each offering a unique vibe. The facilities and amenities were exactly as advertised in the Services & Amenities section. Out of my recent two-week trip, this accommodation will be the most memorable—not only because I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, but also because I won Monkey D. Luffy Gear 5 figures from the claw machines in their game corner. It was so much fun.

Sakura Guest House is a hidden gem in Takayama. I stayed here for 4 consecutive nights. I arrived at Takayama Station by local train from Toyama, transferring at Inotani Station, a journey of about 2 hours in total, costing 1690 yen. From the East Exit of Takayama Station, I turned left and walked straight along the main road for about 700 meters, reaching the guesthouse in about 10 minutes. From the guesthouse, it's a walkable distance to tourist attractions like Miyagawa Morning Market, the historical preservation area of Machiya, Takayama Jinya, Jinya Morning Market, Hachiman-gu Shrine's grand torii gate, and Higashiyama Walking Course. It's also convenient to take the Nohi Bus to destinations like Shirakawa-go, Kamikochi, and Shinhotaka. I stayed in a mixed dormitory bunk bed on the second floor, which has 10 beds. The bedding was soft and comfortable. The entire guesthouse is clean and beautiful, with complete facilities, including a drying area. There are 4 spacious shower rooms on the first floor, and a total of 4 women's restrooms on both the first and second floors. The first floor also has a communal lounge and a common kitchen equipped with an induction cooker, refrigerator, microwave, oven, kettle, tea bags, and coffee. You can buy ingredients at a nearby large supermarket and cook your own meals. On the second floor, there's a coin-operated washing machine (300 yen per wash) and a dryer (100 yen for 20 minutes). What was truly touching and memorable was how exceptionally gentle and friendly the owners were. Their service was incredibly thoughtful and warm. Despite me not knowing English or Japanese, they patiently explained everything to me using a translator, constantly emphasizing that I should feel free to approach them with any questions. My bottom bunk (bed C) didn't have a privacy panel at the head of the bed, which I felt lacked privacy and caused disturbance when others came to this corner to retrieve their luggage. When I raised this issue with the owner, he immediately found cardboard and taped it up, allowing me to sleep peacefully. I felt very safe and warm because of this. This guesthouse is the best place to stay when traveling solo in Takayama, offering excellent value for money. I had a wonderful and pleasant trip here. I absolutely love Takayama and will definitely return to stay here again. See you next time!”

I had a really pleasant stay at Hotel and Spa Gift Takayama. The highlight was definitely the onsen — it’s clean, relaxing, and has both indoor and outdoor baths. After a long day of exploring Takayama, it was the perfect way to unwind. The free ice cream and relaxation area after the bath were a nice touch. The room was modern, comfortable, and very clean. It’s not very large (typical Japan size), but well-designed so it didn’t feel cramped. The bed was also very comfortable, and I slept well. I like the morning view especially. I also want to give a special mention to one of the staff members — I only remember his name starting with “M” (wearing glasses)— who was exceptionally kind and helpful during our stay. He made the experience feel much more welcoming and went out of their way to assist, which I really appreciated. Location-wise, it’s not right next to the main station, but still within walking distance to most attractions, so it was convenient enough. The area is quiet, which I appreciated. One downside was that we, 7pax of us weren’t able to enjoy the hot pot dinner as planned. We had made a reservation, but it didn’t seem to be properly handled, and we were unfortunately turned away. It was a bit disappointing, especially since we were looking forward to that experience. Breakfast was decent, good enough to start the day. Overall, I think this hotel offers great value for money, especially if you want a comfortable stay with a good onsen experience without paying luxury ryokan prices. I would still consider staying here again, but would recommend double-confirming any dining reservations in advance.

A great hotel with a great location. Located next to Family Mart and close to the centre of the historical town. The room layout and size is spacious enough.  Will definitely rebook this hotel.

This is by far the most traditional Japanese-style hotel I've ever stayed in, and it set a wonderful tone for our Nagoya trip. My parents absolutely loved it. **Service:** Standard Japanese service – very attentive. Although English communication was a bit challenging, they diligently used translation software. **Facilities:** Impeccable! I enjoyed my favorite onsen; the outdoor bath was truly exceptional, and the indoor one was also very spacious. The room decor was classic, just like something out of a Japanese drama, and someone even came to prepare our beds in the evening. At first, I worried it might be cold, but the electric blanket underneath was incredibly warm. So unique! For dinner, even though the variety was limited, the chicken wings were exceptionally delicious, and the fishball hotpot was also very good. My dad even complimented the rice! **Cleanliness:** Very good. Despite the older facilities, everything was spotless. **Environment:** The outdoor foot onsen looked so interesting, but I didn't get to try it this time. You could easily spend half a day just exploring the hotel itself. If you're not rushed, staying two days to fully soak it all in would be wonderful. The hotel is located at the highest point in Gero. Walking slowly downhill from there, time seemed to slow down, and everything felt peaceful and serene. I will always remember this place. ☺️

The staff is so helpful that they helped us make a reservation for Kaiseki dinner. That restaurant was full but they tried a few others to see if they were available.

📍 **Convenient Location** 🚶♀️ **Walking Distance:** Just a 5-minute walk from JR Takayama Station and Nohi Bus Center. 🚌 **Excellent Hub:** Super convenient for catching buses to Shirakawa-go and Shinhotaka. No need to rush in the morning. 🛍️ **Nearby Amenities:** Miyagawa Morning Market, Ajikura, and Akimaru are about a 10-minute walk away. There's also a large supermarket and a drugstore nearby. 🏨 **Rooms** 🛌 **Twin Beds Can Be Combined:** The two twin beds in the room can be put together to create a super large bed (over 2.4 meters), perfect for families with kids – no crowding. 📦 **Spacious:** At 22 square meters, the room is significantly larger than hotels in major Japanese cities, so you can open your luggage without any hassle. 🚿 There's a bathtub in the room for a soak. However, for just showering, the public bath is highly recommended as it's more spacious, especially when showering with children. ♨️ **Public Bath:** Separate for men and women, with one pool. You can check the crowding status on the TV in your room. 🎨 **Stylish Design:** Opened in 2021, the hotel features modern and tasteful decor, with an art-filled lobby. **Other Facilities** 👕 **Laundry & Dryer:** Coin-operated washing machines and dryers are available on the first floor. 🆓 **Free Luggage Storage:** Luggage can be stored for free before check-in and after check-out.

The hotel room was spacious and clean. They offered complimentary drinks upon arrival in the afternoon, including free beer! After a relaxing hot spring bath, there were free cold drinks available. The surrounding area is lovely, and it's just a short walk to the attractions. Getting to Takayama Station was also super convenient.
