Romantic Hotels in Yunnan, China

This was my first time in Kunming, and I initially booked the wrong dates for another hotel, but everything happens for a reason, and it led me to book this place. The area outside is very quiet, feels like a pedestrian street, which is lovely. Inside, it's also beautiful. It's only my first day checking in, and I couldn't wait to post a review! The service is excellent too. As soon as I walked in, a lobby attendant helped me with my luggage. The hotel only has three floors, and even though there's no elevator, the attendant helped carry my bags upstairs. My luggage was really heavy, so I truly appreciate his effort. The front desk ladies were also wonderful and very patient. The laundry service is convenient: you just put your clothes in a bag, leave it by your door, and the staff will wash, dry, and return them to your room. They also offer breakfast, afternoon tea, and a goodnight dessert. You need to pre-select your breakfast the day before – I'll try it tomorrow. But the afternoon tea and goodnight dessert were truly delicious! Even though I booked this place last minute, I was genuinely impressed.

This hotel truly boasts a first-class river view, offering stunning sunset views every day and a light show across the river. The front desk lady was exceptionally warm and welcoming. My only minor complaint is the constant buzzing sound at night, which seemed to be from the neighboring air conditioning unit, likely because our family room was on the end.

Located just outside the north gate of Lijiang Old Town, the location is a big plus — you’re just a short walk into the ancient town, but without the noise and crowds. More importantly, since it’s not inside the old town, it’s very easy to take a cab directly to the doorstep (cars are not allowed within the ancient city), which makes arrival and luggage handling much more convenient. What stood out most was the hospitality. The boss, who is from Tianjin, is incredibly friendly and welcoming — the kind who chats with guests, offers tea, and makes you feel right at home. The courtyard is full of greenery and flowers, creating a calm, cosy space to relax after a day out. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and some areas even offer nice views over the old town.

You can see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain right from the hotel, and it's very close to the Old Town. The only thing is, there are so many steps in Lijiang Old Town! 🫣 The guesthouse doesn't offer breakfast, but there's a breakfast place nearby that's pretty close. My stay at Mengjing Xiyue Hotel was such a pleasant surprise, I just have to rave about it! First off, a huge shout-out to the hotel staff 👍. Their service was incredibly attentive and thoughtful. From check-in to everyday care, they made me feel so welcome and comfortable. Any requests were promptly addressed, and I never felt out of place. The hotel facilities are also excellent. Both the common areas and the rooms were spotless and tidy. The bed, especially, was super soft and cozy – once I lay down, I didn't want to get up! I slept soundly every night. What truly impressed me was the scenery 🌿. The rooftop terrace was adorned with succulents and bougainvillea, looking absolutely therapeutic under the sun. You can also enjoy a panoramic city view from there. It's perfect for just relaxing or taking photos – truly a hidden gem, offering tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle. The breakfast was also very well thought out. A steaming bowl of rice noodles paired with some snacks was a perfect way to start an energetic day. The afternoon tea desserts were also exquisite and delicious. Overall, a perfect experience. I'll definitely choose this place again on my next visit!

The hotel's location is great, very convenient for going to the night market. The view is also good, and you can even take a bath. The guy at the front desk was very enthusiastic. Before this, I stayed somewhere else in Gaozhuang on the 2nd floor, and it was noisy at night. Moving to the 22nd floor here is better at night, but it's still a bit noisy. There's nothing to be done, the whole of Gaozhuang is lively at night.

Cleanliness is pretty decent, but don’t expect the cleanliness of a 5* hotel. Bathroom shower walls are slightly moldy at the corners and edges, so if you’re a fussy traveler this may be a 3 or 4 rating. Depending on your requirements, this location can bea 5/5 or a 2/5. This is located far from Dukezong Ancient Town, and far from other restaurants. Scenery is great and quiet from the hustle and bustle , hence the potential 5/5 rating. But since it’s far from other places, food options and “shopping” are limited, hence the 2/5. The room we booked was quite far away from the lobby. It’s the furthest house located. Service is a 5/5. You’ll get full help with your butler carrying your luggage from your car arrival, all the way to your room, and from your room to the lobby when you checkout. Any issue? Just simply WeChat the group chat dedicated for your booking. You get free breakfast 2 choices. 1 porridge set with many side dishes. Or noodle soup. You get free afternoon tea with various choices (coconut latte was good) and a free ice cream cake. At night 8.30 onwards you get dessert soup which was great too. The afternoon tea and dessert soup can be delivered to your room. Not sure about breakfast, as we came out to the cafeteria to eat. Amenities are wonderful, 5/5. Don’t expect a swimming pool or gym here, but you’ll have activities for you to enjoy here without stepping out of the area. A small pool table near the lobby (albeit crapping conditions of the balls). Free sliced carrots provided to feed the farm animals (ducks, swans, goats, pony, donkey), but no feeding of carrots to the 3 doggies!! You also get to dress up in the traditional costume and get free photo shoot with 3 unedited photos for free (per room). If you want the edited photos, do expect to pay a sum (way more expensive than other market rates you can find outside) for it. The room has floor warmer and bed warmer which was great for the cold weather we experienced in end March. It was 0-10 degrees. The toilet was cold. The heating in toilet does not seem to work. So you have to brace the cold and take your shower. But the bed, floor and room was really warm. Hotel also have a restaurant which you can order food for lunch and dinner. But it’s a little on the pricey side. It would be better to ******* and order food delivery. But their restaurant food is surprisingly tasty. So if you don’t mind the price, can order from them. About 180 yuan for 1 meat and 1 vege dish. Overall experience was great. Love the service. If you want a chill time and not travel out to shopping areas, this is a great hotel for you to book. You get the enjoy the “pet farm” life and the nature.

The hotel is in the centre of the city and is so convenient to visit anywhere. The young cleaning lady on the 6th floor was so kind that she helped us take our laundry once it was finished, and also hung them up to dry in our room.

Facilities: Great, it has a smart speaker and even a robot. Cleanliness: Very good, they can clean every day. Environment: Initially, it was a room with an inner window, but then we switched to one with an outer window. Service: Excellent. We bought flowers in the evening, and the front desk helped us trim them. They also upgraded our room for free when we changed rooms.

We had such a lovely stay here. We were offered free fresh fruit straight from the garden (mango and other local fruits). We were offered tea. The owners were very nice, and so helpful. They didn’t speak English but helped us book tickets for the sightseeing bus and provided great recommendations. Breakfast was unique but very nice. Rooms were so clean, massive. Great area. Comfy bed. Couldn’t recommend this place enough! Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
