Hotel Kanade Osaka Namba

Osaka|0.22km from Osaka-Namba Station
Osaka was our first stop for our four-week holiday in Japan. We chose this hotel for it's convenient walking-distance location to Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi, plus the easy access to train stations. On arrival to Osaka unfortunately one of our pieces of luggage was lost in transit due to airline error. When we arrive at Hotel Kanade we informed the staff of the situation and they were very kind to help us follow up with the airport staff the following day. The staff were so happy when they could notify us that our luggage had arrived in the lobby! We felt that the staff were really helpful and friendly and did their absolute best to speak fluent English with us (we tried using our basic Japanese skills and they were very supportive of us trying). Thank you so much for making our first stop in Japan a great one. The room was neat and tidy albeit smaller than what we're used to in Australia. However, it had everything we needed and we were comfortable during our stay. My favourite part of the hotel was the lovely open-air onsen area (female and male onsen were separate). It was a surreal experience to relax in the onsen and hear the background thrum of city life in the crisp night air. We had a bit of a misunderstanding regarding the attire for the onsen - we wore the pyjamas provided in the room because we didn't realise that the staff provide special robes for the sauna and onsen! Hopefully we didn't offend anyone with our mistake! There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance and we also visited a laundromat (it was a reasonable walk but not too bad - we found a great Indian restaurant on the way too) during our stay. Highly recommend this hotel! Thank you for the great experience!

My husband and I stayed in this hotel from 2 to 8 March. We booked the corner annex twin room. The room was very spacious and it could accommodate a 3-1/2 seater sofa in the room. Bathroom and toilet are separate. Lots of space to open up your luggages and hooks to hang your clothes. This is a small boutique hotel. It hasn’t got any facilities like gym, public bath, restaurant, but it compensated customers with their good and friendly services. Yui Adachi, Xu Youhui, Nagoya Koro (manager) and Mr Horie were very nice. They assisted us with directions and also arranged for a free shuttle car transfer from the hotel to the OCAT Bus Station which was much appreciated. This saves us dragging our luggages which is probably a good 15 mins walk to the Station. There are 4 massage chairs to soothe your muscles after a day of tiring walk. Also there is a vibrating platform for those who wish to shed off some extras after all the irresistible food Osaka has to offer. Just behind the hotel, 2 mins walk is Gyozaoh which serves delicious gyoza and karage chicken. Lots of eateries close to the hotel, not to mention the string of restaurants and eateries in nearby Dotonburi. The only downside about this hotel is that there are lots of steps in the room. Step up from entrance to bathroom and toilet area. Then step down to bedroom. Probably not so suitable for people on wheelchairs. Apart from this, all is excellent. There is a coin laundry open 24 hrs. 300 yens for washing and 100 yen for 30 mins drying. While waiting for the laundry, you could probably relax in the massage chair. We will certainly stay in this hotel again when we return to Osaka next.

Dotonbori Hotel

Osaka|0.4km from Osaka-Namba Station
I spent 1 night in a single room at the Dotonbori hotel for which I paid just 7150 Yen. The room was tiny even by Japanese standards (the only place I could fully open out my suitcase was on the bed). The ”pod” bathroom (a bit like a ferry cabin or some Ibis chain hotel bathrooms) was a little tired, and I suspect the carpets may have been fitted when the hotel was built), but the range of included services and snacks, and helpful staff made up for it. Slightly odd nightwear in the room - not a proper yukata, a sort of odd cross between a nightshirt and overgrown baseball shirt with buttons down the front, as well as (of course) slippers! The usual range of toiletries, toothbrush etc in the bathroom. Having done an evening Osaka tour, I arrived too late for the free ice cream and beer, but claimed one of the last free ramen pots in reception in the evening. The lounge area felt more like a convivial hostel lounge than a ”just sit here until my taxi arrives” posh hotel lounge - no bad thing! Tea was also available. I'd completely forgotten my room rate included breakfast, and was very pleasantly surprised by the wide selection of food the following morning. While there were cakes, pastries and western-ish hot food (scrambled eggs, some sort of sausage, even a pasta dish) I went for the Japanese breakfast options including grilled fish, rice, miso and 2 helpings of the delicious asparagus in sesame sauce. There were pickles, noodles, even sushi if you wanted. The next morning after checking out I was able to leave my suitcase with the reception staff while sightseeing in Osaka, rather than having to pay for a locker at the station, and picked it up before heading to the station. A budget hotel providing better services than many more upmarket options, in buzzing Dotonbori.

Location was fine if you want to take bus to and from KIX. Because it is just next to it. Can easily take bus no. 60 to aquarium. Supermarktet and few stores are located on the same building. Check-in was fine. Most of the staff can communicate in English very well. We had our issue with cleanliness as the room was dusty and they did not change cups and glasses. We complained and got new glasses but the dust and dirts were still there.... Provided amenities were less than other hotels, even with less stars. Breakfast looked at first quite impressive, but after three days, almost the same choice. Staff was nice and friendly like what we can expect from Japanese Culture. Room is small and overpriced in my opinion. In general the view was great. Breakfast OK. Cleanliness need to be improved. Due to the old-fashioned furniture dust and dirts will be there....

This hotel is very close to JR Namba Station and can be reached within five minutes from the station. It only takes ten minutes to walk to Dotonbori on the other side. I highly recommend the travel options for hostels.

The hotel is decent and close to the station of Namba and being the center of trains to different places. The staff are helpful but not able to guide me the quickest way to Kobe and Mt Rokko.

Centurion Hotel in Namba is a quaint boutique hotel that's at the center on the action in the Namba area in Osaka. It's very near 3 subway stations. Very convenient for JR pass users, too! There's practically Family Mart outlets around the hotel (about 2-5 min walk) plus an Aeon supermarket at the end of the street. Our daughter got a bit sick (stomach ache) and they took the extra mile to find the nearest hospital. Though the cold pack worked (no need for a hospital), their service was family-like. Breakfast is continental. Good for people like me. :) You can leave your luggages upon 11am checkout. Will recommend and come back to this hotel!

Guide for Travelling in Osaka

Introduction to Osaka

Osaka, Japan's third-largest city, is a dynamic metropolis known for its modern architecture, lively nightlife, and hearty street food culture. It is located in the Kansai region on the main island of Honshu. Osaka's friendly locals and a myriad of attractions, including historic landmarks, theme parks, and shopping districts, provide a compelling contrast to Tokyo's hustle and bustle.

Tips for Travelling to Osaka

Osaka is served by two airports: Kansai International Airport and Itami Airport, with Kansai being the primary gateway for international travelers. The city has an excellent public transportation system, including JR trains, subways, and buses. Japan's famous bullet trains also connect Osaka with other major cities.

The official currency is the Japanese Yen (JPY), and while credit cards are widely accepted, it's worth carrying some cash for smaller establishments. The official language is Japanese, and while English is not commonly spoken by older locals, younger generations and service staff at tourist attractions usually have a good understanding.

Visa requirements for Japan vary depending on your country of origin, so always check in advance. Many countries enjoy visa-free access for short-term visits.

Popular Attractions in Osaka

Dotonbori is Osaka's entertainment heart, with its iconic Glico Man sign, an array of restaurants, and exciting street performances. A visit to Osaka Castle, one of Japan's most famous landmarks, is essential.

Universal Studios Japan, a popular theme park featuring Harry Potter World, is a favorite among families. Explore the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, one of the largest public aquariums in the world, or shop 'til you drop in the Shinsaibashi Shopping Arcade.

Weather, Best Time to Visit, and What to Wear

Osaka experiences four distinct seasons. The spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) are the best times to visit, with pleasant temperatures and beautiful cherry blossoms or fall colors. Summers can be hot and humid, while winters are mild but chilly. Depending on the season of your visit, pack accordingly - light, breathable clothing for summer, and warm layers for winter.

Choosing Your Ideal Hotel in Osaka

Osaka offers a wide range of accommodations to suit different travel needs. If you're looking for luxury near attractions, the Intercontinental Osaka in Umeda or Conrad Osaka offer top-notch services and amenities. The Swissotel Nankai Osaka is conveniently located above Nankai Namba Station for easy transportation access.

Budget travelers might find Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka or Hearton Hotel Kitaumeda appealing. Instagrammers would love Hotel The Flag Shinsaibashi, recognized for its minimalist design and excellent location.
