It was my first time to experience a water house. The slide went directly into the sea. It was very interesting. Service: The hotel's arrangements are in place and they can help you solve any problems you have. We booked a charter boat for snorkeling for two people. The instructor is also very professional and will dive to the bottom of the sea to help you catch the fish from the bottom of the sea. Facilities: As soon as I entered the room, I couldn't wait to experience the slide. At first, I was worried that I would sink into the sea if I slid down. There are life jackets at the front desk, so there is no need to worry. Free dinner: The dishes are very rich, the chicken is very tender, the crabs are also very fresh, there is crab roe in it, you can’t get enough of the shrimps
Borneo Sepilok Rainforest Resort

This is the sort of place where the staff will always greet you with ”hello, sir/ma'am” whenever they see you. Nice swimming pool and very good food at the restaurant, even though slightly pricy at first (I guess it's fine being a resort), the portions are actually huge and very fresh. Try their lemon chicken on rice for 20 ringgit (February 2024). All you can eat breakfast included for free even with the dorm bed: fried noodles, a very thick pancake, fruit, British breakfast, beef sausages, coffee, juice, etc. Walk-in price is 80RM, cheaper here on Trip. The dorm looks exactly the same as the one I staid in Kinabatangan, which is always funny (same contractor?). Comfortable night, with a new AC and fan, specially so considering I had it all to myself since the other few guests they had had private accommodation. Dorm showers have plenty of hot water and are clean, but there's no soap or amenities beyond the towel they give you at check-in. Bring your own. The staff at the restaurant sometimes disappears for no reason in the middle of service, even if there's about 20 of them considering réception is right there. They helped me book a taxi to the airport (50 ringgit), since there's no grab available (spent 1h looking for one). Don't bother trying to get one, ask them to call a taxi for you, really. This resort is about 1km away from the three main things to do at sepilok. You will be walking on the side of the road to get anywhere since transportation options are scarce and expensive. Overall this is standard of service here in Borneo, so don't settle for less than this.
Sutera Sanctuary Lodges at Poring Hot Springs

A delightful place for a night. We stayed in the jungle lodge which is spacious, clean and comfortable. Fabulous king size bed, good air conditioning and beautiful bathroom. The room overlooks the carpark and there was noise from dogs squabbling over food. However the hotel staff swiftly sorted that out. The hotel team was friendly and helpful but we did misunderstand about the opening hours for the pool. We also had to wait until the room was inspected before we got our deposit back! A quirky rule! A highlight was the restaurant. Our package allowed us to have an a la carte menu and it was one of the best meals of our Sabah trip. Equally good was the breakfast. Refreshing not to have the ubiquitous breakfast buffet! Overall a lovely place.
Sutera Sanctuary Lodges at Kinabalu Park

We drove to Mount Kinabalu for 2 nights stay at the 1) Peak Lodge 1 & 2 , 2) Summit Lodge & 3) Garden Lodge. The accomodations are comfortable, niece ambience with fire place ,has slow or no wifi connection at all. Some improvement needed in Housekeeping cleaning. Shower room in Summit Lodge flooding as the floor trap was filled with dirt & hair. Shower room wall tiles are dirty. Awesome view of the Mount Kinabalu from our Lodges. Breakfast is at Liwagu Restaurant , it serves Asian Buffet. Dinner is Ala-Carte , food and service are good. For activities , around the Park , we make visit to the Botanical Garden and Poring Hot Spring and make a further drive down to Desa Dairy Farm at Kundasang. All in all it was a relaxing stay !!
MONAlisa Guest House

Before going there, I was struggling whether to choose a hotel that was farther away and quieter, or closer and more lively. In the end, I chose the latter. There is a night market downstairs, and the sea and the houses of the Bajau people are outside the window. It is a short walk to the seafood market and supermarket. It takes 5 minutes to get to the pier by taxi and traffic jam. Except for the mosque next to it that starts chanting in the early morning every day and makes it impossible to sleep, everything else is good. In particular, there is a customer service brother who speaks Chinese. When you arrive in Semporna, you can find him for the rest.

Like: The room is spacious and has a hot water dispenser, which is great. The kitchen can also be used for cooking. Netflix is provided, making it convenient for families to stay. Contacted the B&B and got a quick reply. Areas for improvement: There is a dent in the mattress, the toilet seat, the liquid dispenser is loose, the air conditioner, and the hardware could be more ideal. In summary: great value for money.

I don’t recommend choosing this hotel, the location is too remote. It is about 800 meters away from the lively area of the town and far away from convenience stores, laundries and restaurants, which is very inconvenient. Most dive shops are at the pier, about 1.2km away. It's not very far to walk there, but there are no sidewalks on the road and there are a lot of cars, so you have to walk in the mud next to the road, which makes it very dirty. There are also a lot of mosquitoes on the road. The store has a car delivered to the pier every day, but the time and location are fixed. The dive shop I chose is not at the pier, so I didn't use it. I have seen several other hotels with similar prices before, some of which are more conveniently located and have in-room toilets. The bathroom and toilet are shared and it is not convenient to go to the toilet at night. The toilet is quite dirty. The dirt on the toilet seat is so serious that it cannot be wiped off with paper towels. At the same time, there are many mosquitoes when going to the toilet. The water pressure in the shower is also very low, and there is no cold water if there are other people taking a shower nearby. There is only one bed in the room and no other facilities. The hygiene situation is okay and the bed is relatively clean. There is a small balcony, but the balcony door is broken and cannot be opened. The only thing worth mentioning is that the bed is very comfortable, it seems to be a latex mattress. In addition, my room was close to the outside and the window faced the road. People passing by the bus can see directly inside, and the noise is very loud. Every night I wear noise-canceling headphones to fall asleep.

Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat

I stayed here for four nights and I could easily have stayed longer. This place feels like a piece of heaven. I had a beautiful simple cabin with a stunning view. Every night I could hear animals crawling and scrambling on the roof. It was really a unique experience! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Especially Sila. The restaurant had some nice food for a decent price and breakfast was good. Not a lot, but sufficient. There was always coffee and tea for free and they kept my snacks for free in their fridge during my stay so the animals could not smell it in my cabin. Their shuttle service was very good. It was easy to communicate with the driver if I was going to need his service when I was out exploring. And If I wanted to go elsewhere I was always told the price beforehand. I went on almost all of their excursions and can recommend all of them. If you’re looking for a relaxing cabin in the middle of nature this is the perfect place. I cannot recommend it enough.
