Plus: some of the cruise service crew provided excellent service, there were several facilities onboard to cater to all ages, food was plenty and tasty, good experience at Naha, Okinawa; it has its own unique charm without the crowd. Minus: long walk to board the cruise at Shanghai, a real struggle for my elderly parents. Our first dinner at the dining hall was chaotic; no one informed us that we’ve been pre-assigned dining times until we reached our turn after queuing for quite some time. As we were one of the last passengers to board, there was no service staff on standby at the entrance to greet and assist us to our cabin rooms, we had to go high and low to look for the relevant service staff. Our cabin room was a bit cramp for three adults. Toilet within the cabin room can only fit one person at a time.

The Ultimate Cruises is indeed excellent, with facilities and dining options surpassing those of other cruise ships. The only drawback is the poor organization of shore excursions. Our three excursions were either rushed and disorganized, forcing us to cut important itineraries, or we were asked to depart as early as 7 AM, only to find ourselves with nothing to do by 1 PM, spending the entire afternoon back on the ship. This aspect needs improvement.

The staff were always smiling and proactively greeted us, creating a great team atmosphere. The food was of very good quality, with new dishes appearing daily. The boat was fast but very smooth, making it perfect for family vacations. A round-the-Japan trip allows you to visit many places at once, and the actual cost might be more economical than booking land transportation, accommodation, and meals separately.

Hong Kong Local Travel Guide

Hong Kong Brief Guide

Hong Kong, Asia’s vibrant hub, is known for its stunning skyline, skyscraper jungles, and neon-lit harbors. It offers everything from bustling street markets and world-class dining to tranquil coastal escapes and serene hiking trails. This guide will help you craft your ideal adventure, navigating its exciting blend of urban buzz and coastal tranquility.

Hong Kong Must-try local experiences

1. Ride the Ding Ding Tram Hop on a “Ding Ding” tram—the world’s only double-decker tram system still running—through Hong Kong Island. Take the Kennedy Town to Central route and snag an upstairs seat for a front-row view of the city’s bustle. It’s a slow, rattling ride past Hong Kong’s urban pulse. Avoid rush hours (8-9:30 am/6-7:30 pm) for a quieter trip. 2. Ascend Victoria Peak Ride the Peak Tram up Victoria Peak—grades hit 27°, steeper than San Francisco’s cable cars—for harbor views, or hike up for a more challenging trek. Stroll the 45-minute Lugard Road loop for calm city and sea vistas at sunset; book timed sunset entry slots via The Peak app. The Peak Tower offers a high lookout over the skyline’s evening glow. 3. Roam Bustling Streets Wander Sheung Wan—inhale incense coils at Man Mo Temple (hanging until 6 pm, best for morning photos), then climb retro Pottinger Street’s stone steps. Stroll Central, spot vibrant graffiti along Graham Street, or explore Tai Kwun, a prison reborn as an arts hub. Visit Yau Ma Tei’s Temple Street night market—Cantonese opera often hums on weekends near Tin Hau Temple. Each corner buzzes with Hong Kong’s unique charm. 4. Taste Hong Kong Flavors Sip milk tea with pineapple buns at a cha chaan teng or grab fish balls and egg waffles from street stalls. Try cart noodles with pig’s blood cake in Mong Kok, or savor dim sum—shrimp dumplings and siu mai—at old-school teahouses like Luk Yu Tea House on Stanley Street, where tray-toting aunties still serve. Clattering trays set the vibe. 5. Browse Hong Kong’s Shopping Scene Browse Tsim Sha Tsui’s Harbour City for luxury goods, or Mong Kok’s Sneakers Street and Ladies’ Market for trendy kicks and bargains. Hit Causeway Bay’s Times Square for upscale hauls, Sham Shui Po’s Golden Computer Centre for cheap tech, and Apliu Street for vintage gadgets. Hong Kong’s a shopaholic’s paradise, top to bottom. 6. Catch Victoria Harbour’s Glow Watch the Symphony of Lights at 8 pm from Tsim Sha Tsui’s Avenue of Stars— with Bruce Lee and Maggie Cheung statues—as skyscraper beams dazzle Victoria Harbour. Ride the Star Ferry for a close-up shine or relax on West Kowloon’s waterfront lawn to see cargo ships glide by. It’s Hong Kong’s nightly spectacle. 7. Explore Theme Parks Visit Hong Kong Disneyland—Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! Zips you through, Mystic Manor twists with oddities, and fireworks burst over the Castle of Magical Dreams. Try Ocean Park—ride Hair Raiser or Flash’s vertical drop, see shark tanks and pandas, plus hit Water World’s 27-meter slides in summer. Both are easy to reach by MTR. 8. Hike Wild Trails Trek Dragon’s Back—ridge trails drop to Shek O’s glassy sea in 2.5-3.5 hours, with surfers dotting below; bring HK$20 for the bus return. Try MacLehose Trail’s Section 2—white sands lead to Po Pin Chau’s hexagonal sea stacks, accessible only at low tide (check HK Observatory app). Both weave through hills with stunning coastal views. 9. Visit the Big Buddha Ride Ngong Ping 360’s cable cars to Lantau—glass floors show the hills below—leading to the 26.4m Big Buddha (34m with lotus base). Nearby, stroll through Tai O’s stilted fishing village; book boat tours to pink dolphin zones. Enjoy Po Lin Monastery’s calm and veggie meals for a peaceful day above the city hum. 10. Cycle Island Escapes Ferry from Central to Cheung Chau—bike car-free lanes from Kwun Yam Beach to Pak Tai Temple’s old carvings (rentals near ferry pier). Or roll through Lamma Island’s fishing villages—seafood shacks line Yung Shue Wan. The 30-minute rides open quiet paths and sea breezes beyond the skyline. 11. Stroll Heritage Trails Walk the Ping Shan Heritage Trail from Tin Shui Wai MTR—ancient walls, Hong Kong’s only ancient three-story Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda, and ancestral halls trace centuries. Add Kam Tin’s Kat Hing Wai walled village—stone gates guard Hakka history. It’s a quiet step into Hong Kong’s rural roots. 12. Relax on the Beaches Take a bus from Central to Repulse Bay Beach—it will take you 30 minutes to get to the soft sand, calm waves, and hillside mansions. Try Stanley Main Beach—livelier tides near a Tin Hau shrine and weekend markets. Both swap urban grind for sun-soaked shores and a quick dip. 13. Ride the Urban Escalator Ride the Central–Mid-Levels Escalator—the world’s longest outdoor covered system at 800 meters—uphill to Mid-Levels from 10am-midnight (downhill 6-10am). Stop in Soho for coffee, then walk down past wet markets. It’s a smooth lift through Hong Kong’s buzz.

Hong Kong Must-see Attractions

Hong Kong dishes up a wild mix of thrills and traditions—from theme parks that roar with energy to quiet monasteries perched above the city’s hum. Each spot pulls you into a different side of this restless city.

Hong Kong Food Guide

Hong Kong’s food scene is a relentless collision of taste—woks flare, tea steeps, and carts hum with heat, turning out dishes that stick with you.

Hong Kong Transportation

Hong Kong is easily accessible by air, rail, bus, or ferry from international and domestic locations within mainland China and beyond. By Air Hong Kong International Airport (HKG): The primary gateway, located ~40 km (24 miles) west of Central. Serves international flights and domestic routes. To City Center (Central/Kowloon): Airport Express (MTR): 24 minutes to Central or 20 minutes to Kowloon. Operates ~5:50 AM–1:00 AM, every 10–12 minutes. Pay via Octopus card, contactless payment, QR code, or ticket machines (English interface). Free shuttle buses from MTR stations to major hotels.  Airport Buses: Routes like A11 (Central, ~50 minutes) or A21 (Kowloon, ~45 minutes) run 5:30 AM–midnight. Pay via Octopus, contactless cards, or cash (exact amount).  Taxis: Red taxis to Central (30–45 minutes). Surcharges apply for luggage and tolls.  By Train Hong Kong West Kowloon Station: The main hub for high-speed trains (G-series) on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, connecting to Guangzhou (50–60 minutes), Shenzhen (15–20 minutes), Beijing (9 hours), and many other locations.  To City Center: West Kowloon Station connects to MTR (Tung Chung or Tuen Ma Lines, ~15–20 minutes to Central/Kowloon). Taxis cost ~HK$80–120.  By Bus Key Bus Terminals: Cross-border buses from Mong Kok East or Tsim Sha Tsui connect to Shenzhen (1–1.5 hours), Guangzhou (2.5–3 hours), and other mainland cities via operators like China Travel Service (CTS). Trains are faster for mainland destinations; buses are more suitable for budget travelers. By Ferry Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Port and China Ferry Terminal (Tsim Sha Tsui): High-speed ferries connect to Macau (~1 hour) and mainland cities like Zhuhai (~1 hour).  To City Center: Sheung Wan and Tsim Sha Tsui terminals connect to the MTR.

Hong Kong Where to Stay

Hong Kong’s sprawl means where you stay shapes your trip—each district hums with its own rhythm.

Hong Kong Best Time to Visit

Spring (March-April): Cool (20-25°C/68-77°F), clear—great for hiking and festivals like Rugby Sevens or Hong Kong Film Festival. Crowds build, so book early. Autumn (October-November): Crisp (22-28°C/72-82°F), sunny—perfect for outdoor sights like The Peak. Peak season means higher rates, busier spots. Summer’s sticky, typhoon-prone; winter’s damp but manageable if layered.

Hong Kong Travel Tips

1. Plan Around Temple Street Night Market’s Rhythm Temple Street Night Market in Kowloon kicks off after 6 p.m.—trinkets, street food, fortune tellers—but shuts Mondays for cleanup. Hit Tuesday or Friday; weekends pack tight by 8 p.m., so slide in earlier to dodge the crush. Bring small bills—vendors lean cash over cards. 2. Secure Peak Tram Tickets Ahead The Peak Tram to Victoria Peak means up to 60 minute waits—or longer—in peak times like October or Chinese New Year. Book online a day or two ahead for a timed slot; early rides around sunrise catch the haze lifting off the skyline. Spare morning? The nearby Morning Trail’s a scenic dodge if lines drag.  3. Navigate Public Transport Like a Local Hong Kong’s MTR is fast and spotless—snag an Octopus card at stations (small deposit, reloadable) for trains, buses, even convenience stores. On escalators, stand right, walk left—same for the Mid-Levels Escalator—or you’ll jam the flow. No eating or drinking on trains—fines sting if caught.  4. Avoid Peak Hours on Footbridges The elevated walkways in Central and Admiralty swarm from 7-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.—office workers move like a tide. Sidestep them during those slots or brace for slow shuffles; quieter routes like side streets near Sheung Wan offer breathing room and a peek at old shopfronts. 5. Pack for Hong Kong’s Weather Swings July steams at 32°C (90°F) with 80% humidity, February cools to 17°C (63°F) with drizzle—light layers fit all year. Grab a foldable umbrella or buy one cheap at a corner store. Typhoon season (May-Oct) can halt ferries—check the HK Observatory app for signal alerts.  6. Stay Sharp Around Crowds Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay draw pickpockets—watch for kids bumping you or fake petitions that distract. A crossbody bag beats a backpack; keep your phone zipped up. If someone offers a “free” bracelet or palm reading, it’s a hustle—nod politely and keep moving. 7. Ride the Ferries, Skip the Taxis Taxis from the airport to Central run steep, but the Airport Express train (moderate fare) hits town in 24 minutes, linking to the MTR. In-city, the Star Ferry’s dirt-cheap ride across Victoria Harbour beats cabs for views—runs every 10 minutes till late.  8. Mind the No-Smoking Rules Smoking’s out in indoor public spots, parks, and near MTR entrances—fines climbed since 2023’s crackdown. Vaping’s banned too; don’t pack e-cigs, or customs might nab them. Need a smoke? Find a quiet corner—bins often mark OK zones.  9. Eat Smart - Avoid the Tourist Traps Dim sum near Victoria Peak can gouge deep; hit Mong Kok’s no-frills joints for cheap plates—same taste, less sting. Wet markets like Wan Chai’s sell fresh fruit for a song—grab a mango and munch by the harbor.  10. Haggle with Market Vendors Bargaining’s fair game in Mong Kok or Sham Shui Po—start at half the asking price and nudge up with a grin. Cash is king; midweek mornings trim the bustle, giving you room to deal.   11. Grab a SIM at Arrival Snag a prepaid SIM at Hong Kong Airport—7-day plans with solid data run cheap from CSL or China Mobile, sold at 7-Eleven or counters. Free Wi-Fi’s patchy outside malls; skip roaming unless you’re flush. 12. Snap Photos with Care Hong Kong’s streets beg for shots, but ask before framing hawkers or monks—temples like Wong Tai Sin ban flashes inside. Residential spots like Quarry Bay’s “Monster Building” are homes, not sets—keep quiet, skip doorsteps, or risk a glare. Tripods need permits at places like Victoria Harbour; stick to handheld for quick skyline grabs.

Hong Kong Useful Guide

Hong Kong is a trilingual city, with Cantonese, Mandarin, and English serving as official languages. Cantonese: Spoken by over 88% of residents, dominant in daily life, markets (e.g., Temple Street), and local eateries. English: Widely used in tourist areas, hotels, restaurants, and attractions. Signage, menus, and MTR announcements are available in both English and Chinese.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must carry a passport with an expiration date that meets the destination's requirements (usually valid for at least 6 months after the cruise ends; please refer to the actual boarding information), your cruise boarding pass (e-ticket or printed copy), and any visas required by all countries/regions on your itinerary. Depending on your nationality, other identification documents (such as a residence card or national ID card) may also be required. Please confirm the final requirements with the relevant embassies or consulates and the cruise line before departure.
Modern large cruise ships are equipped with advanced stabilizers and are routed to avoid rough seas, meaning most passengers never experience noticeable seasickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider booking a cabin on the mid-to-lower decks where movement is minimal. Other helpful tips include packing motion sickness medication, wearing anti-nausea wristbands, and getting fresh air on open decks. Note: Medication availability at the onboard medical center varies, so please check with your specific cruise line.
The vast majority of cruises automatically charge a fixed service fee to your daily cruise card account. For specific rates and collection methods, please refer to the information published by the cruise line after boarding. This fee typically covers basic gratuities for room service, dining staff, and more. Unless you wish to tip extra for exceptional service, additional cash tips are not required. We recommend consulting the cruise line's official guidelines when booking or after boarding.
Most international cruise lines use the US Dollar as their onboard currency. Upon boarding, you will link a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) to your cruise card. The ship operates on a "cashless" system, meaning all onboard purchases (dining, drinks, shopping, service fees) are charged directly to your account and settled at the end of the trip. While you don't need large amounts of cash on board, we recommend bringing some small bills (USD or local currency) for minor expenses and tips at ports of call.
Usually, within an hour after leaving port, your phone will connect to a maritime roaming network, which carries extremely high call and data roaming charges (often exceeding US$ 5/minute). We strongly advise putting your phone in Airplane Mode and relying solely on the ship's Wi-Fi. Most ships offer paid Wi-Fi packages. Purchasing a voyage-long package is generally much more cost-effective than paying by the day. Some luxury cruise lines include basic Wi-Fi in your fare.
Every international cruise ship is equipped with a medical center staffed by at least one internationally certified doctor and nurse. They are fully capable of treating common illnesses (colds, gastroenteritis) and minor injuries. Please note: Onboard medical care is quite expensive, and the pharmacy has limited stock. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with cruise medical coverage and packing an ample supply of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you regularly use.
After boarding, you must attend a mandatory safety drill (usually required to be completed within 24 hours). During the drill, you will hear the ship's dedicated alarm signal. Please immediately put on your life jacket (located in your cabin closet) and follow the evacuation route map on the back of your door to your designated assembly station. Please keep in mind: Do not use the elevators, follow the crew's instructions, and stay calm. Even if you have been on multiple cruises, you must participate in the drill on every new voyage. Please refer to the ship's on-site broadcasts and guidance for the specific signal and assembly location.
The night before disembarkation, affix luggage tags to all checked bags as instructed by the cruise operator and leave them at the marked zone outside your cabin. Do not pack items required for the next day such as daily wear, official documents and valuables into checked luggage. Retain your passport, room key and hand luggage with yourself. On disembark day, exit your cabin by the stated timing and proceed ashore in allocated groups per announcements. Avoid remaining inside the cabin. Inspect every drawer, closet and cabin safe thoroughly. Exact timings and baggage rules follow the cruise line’s Disembarkation Guide.

#springtravel The festival started as a memorial for Admiral Yi Sun-shin, and you can see his influence everywhere, especially at the Jungwon Rotary. In 2026, the 'Victory Parade' featured traditional costumes and a replica 'Turtle Ship.' It’s a good reminder that this isn't just a flower show—it’s a celebration of Korean resilience and history. Taking a moment to visit the statue of the Admiral at the center of the city adds a lot of context to the festivities

Celebrity Solstice | 12-Night Royal Suite Vibe 🥂🚢

Celebrity Solstice | 12-Night Royal Suite Vibe 🥂🚢

Just wrapped up an unforgettable 12-night cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore aboard the Celebrity Solstice🚢💙 We stayed in the Royal Suite to celebrate our anniversary, and the crew even decorated the room for us—such a sweet surprise! ❤️🎉 🛏 Royal Suite Vibes The suite was HUGE—separate living room, bedroom, walk-in closet, marble bathroom, plus my favorite part: a massive balcony with a private jacuzzi 🛁🌅. Morning and evening dips while watching the ocean… pure bliss. We also had a dedicated butler who took care of everything—snacks, in-room breakfast, dinner reservations, even laundry (yes, laundry was included—no worries about running out of clothes on a long trip!). 🍽 Food & Champagne Life Dining was another highlight. Luminae (the suites-only restaurant) was exceptional—ever-changing menus, consistently top-notch. We also tried all the specialty restaurants (complimentary for Royal Suite guests 🙌). And drinks? Endless champagne flows every day, plus a bottle of Dom Pérignon to celebrate our anniversary 🥂✨ Happiness level: MAX. 📶 Wi-Fi & Service Surprisingly fast and stable Wi-Fi (posting pics, scrolling, even streaming—no problem at all). Service throughout the ship was polished, thoughtful, but never intrusive. 🧭 Shore Excursions Our journey included stops in Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia: · Kayaking in Ha Long Bay + local lunch · Ho Chi Minh City tour (we skipped Cu Chi Tunnels) · Free exploring in Pattaya & Koh Samui The pace was super relaxed—no rushing around. 🏨 Pre & Post Stays Kicked off with a suite at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, and ended with two nights at Mandarin Oriental Singapore (Marina Bay Club room). Both hotels were incredible—views, service, dining—absolutely 5-star. 💰 Trip Cost (for 2) · Royal Suite (12 nights): ¥100,800 · Shore excursions: ¥10,152 · Hong Kong & Singapore hotels: ¥27,770 · Flights, visas, champagne, tips, extras: ~¥15,000 ▶️ Total: ~¥155,000 ✅ Verdict Our first time staying in Celebrity’s Royal Suite, and it blew past all expectations. From the jacuzzi balcony to endless champagne, it was truly a trip to remember. 🥂💫 #cruise #celebritycruises #celebritysolstice #cruisevibes #familytravel #royalsuite #couplestrip

❄️If your ideal trip isn't about water parks and bumper cars, but attending glacier lectures, hiking the Arctic tundra, and waiting for the Northern Lights on the deck at the end of the world 🚢MS Nordkapp is your perfect answer! 🚢It's not an "amusement park," but a "university at sea" ❄️Named after the "northernmost point of mainland Europe" in 1996, it navigates the fjords and ports along the west coast of Norway year-round, delving deep into the Arctic Circle to help you explore places massive cruise ships simply can't reach 👇 This guide is for you, who yearns for polar wonders. ❄️【About This Ship】 · Tonnage: 11,386 tons · Capacity: 590 passengers (small and exquisite, no overcrowding) · Decks: 7 · Length / Width: 123.3m / 19.5m · Speed: 15 knots · Outlets: European, Australian · Expedition Team: Equipped with a professional expedition team, hosting scientific lectures and outdoor activities on board 🛏️【How to Choose a Cabin?】 · Standard Inside Cabin (8-11m²): Cost-effective, quiet, and windowless, perfect for budget-conscious travelers · Superior Inside Cabin (9m²): Located on higher decks, for 1-3 people, windowless but with better amenities · Oceanview Cabin (8-12m²): Features a square window with ocean views; some cabins may have partially obstructed views · Mini Suite (15-20m²): More spacious, some can accommodate up to 4 people, ideal for family trips · Suite (28-30m²): The most spacious cabins on board, for 1-4 people, including VIP perks Quick Tip: Since the ship is relatively small, choosing a cabin mid-ship offers more stability~ All cabins come with a private bathroom, shower, hairdryer, safe, and telephone. All Arctic Superior cabins and Expedition Suites are equipped with tea/coffee making facilities. Suites and select cabins enjoy extra perks like a minibar, a wool sweater set, and priority check-in. Hairdryers and bathrobes can also be rented for the room. 🍽️【What to Eat? A True Expedition Experience!】 · Expedition Team: Composed of scientists and polar experts from various fields, the team hosts daily lectures covering topics like Arctic glaciers, polar wildlife, and marine ecology. They introduce Norway's unique concept of "friluftsliv" (the spirit of "outdoor life") and encourage you to join hikes and outdoor activities. · Gym: Small but fully equipped, allowing you to work out while facing the ocean · Shop/Reception: The souvenir shop sells expedition gear and local handicrafts · Laundry Room: Essential for long voyages, making it easy to wash clothes · Sauna: A staple on Norwegian cruises, perfect for warming up and relaxing after a polar excursion Free Facilities: Main restaurant, pool (on deck), sauna, gym, lectures, etc. Some services like the spa and laundry may incur extra charges. ❄️【Practical Tips】 · Children aged 6 months and older can board; those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult over 21. · All passengers must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months after the return date; for Japan/Korea cruises, visa-free entry only requires a landing permit. · Free Facilities: Main restaurant, pool, sauna, gym, lectures. Spa and certain specialty restaurants may charge fees. · Onboard Wi-Fi is paid; please check the onboard announcements for specific rates after boarding. · Outlets are European/Australian standard, so remember to bring a travel adapter. · The ship does not provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, or slippers, so please bring your own. 🌊 From the expedition team's polar lectures to the midnight sun in the panoramic lounge, 🌊From the ultimate freshness of Norwegian seafood to every unexpected port of call in the Arctic Circle 🚢MS Nordkapp isn't a ship for "vacationing," but one that takes you to "see the world" ✨It may not be huge, but it visits places many large ships could never reach in a lifetime ✨True maritime explorers never chase the crowds, they only chase the horizon

Yangtze River Miracle: A spontaneous trip to the Three Gorges with my parents.

Yangtze River Miracle: A spontaneous trip to the Three Gorges with my parents.

Taking advantage of the off-season special offer for the Three Gorges cruise, the weather is just right, neither too hot nor too cold, so I took my parents on a spontaneous trip to the Three Gorges. This time, I chose the Yangtze River Miracle, which was just renovated this year. It has a retro style, so I wanted to share the cruise environment 🚢 Because of the free third-person policy, I chose a deluxe river view room with an extra bed, as shown in picture 4. Although it's a bit narrow, there is still room to move around, and it's quite comfortable to sit on the balcony when the weather is nice.
