This hotel is located within the Mingsha Mountain scenic area, and if you have kids, they can enjoy sandboarding for free. The rooms are RVs, situated right in the heart of the desert, which is absolutely fantastic and offers a top-notch experience. It's only about a 10-minute drive to the East Gate of Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring. The disposable amenities are incredibly comprehensive, including disposable towels, bath towels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and more. The staff are also very enthusiastic.

This is the first time I've specifically waited to review a hotel: 1. Location: Less than 10 minutes from the high-speed train station, very convenient. 2. Service: Beyond five-star service! They added me on WeChat in advance, and all the hotel staff were incredibly enthusiastic. Every detail was meticulously taken care of, from bottled water available everywhere to free laundry and drying facilities, complete with laundry detergent. In the evenings, there were complimentary sweet soups, milk, and pastries. It was so convenient when traveling with a child and ordering extra food. There were welcome gifts upon check-in and also gifts upon check-out, plus a play area for kids. An excellent hotel! 👍👍👍

This was my first stop in China and I’m so happy that I stayed in Dunhuang at Baibaili Hotel. I was looked after so well, the hospitality of the staff extended many times for several necessities and I’m touched by their hospitality. This will for a very long time, be my remarkable first impression of China, its people and their culture. The location is perfect if you want to stay a bit further out from town and enjoy the silence of being closer to the desert and the stunning design of the place. Beautiful and comfortable room, all the final touches refined every day and after 24 hrs of travelling; a generous fruit and snack plate that grounded me sweetly into Dunhuang upon arrival and farewelled me just after mid-autumn with a beautiful moon cake. Traveling to Dunhuang, we stayed at Courtyard No. 23 for two nights, and the overall experience was fantastic! The room was very clean, and the entire environment is especially suitable for families with children. The courtyard has many fruit trees, including Li Guang apricots and green apples. They also raise goats and bunnies, so kids can feed the pets, and there's a lovely Border Collie too. Sitting on a lounge chair or hammock under the green apple tree, with a gentle breeze blowing, was incredibly relaxing. You can pick apricots to eat while strolling around the courtyard; the owner is very hospitable and encouraged us to eat as much as we liked [Joyful]. There's also a go-kart track, and the kids couldn't stop playing. In the morning, we had breakfast at a large wooden table under the apricot tree, enjoying delicious lamb soup noodles with coarse grains. Looking at the blue sky and the rustling poplars in the wind, we are so grateful to the guesthouse for adding such beauty to our trip. The staff were warm, thoughtful, and attentive. I truly recommend this courtyard for anyone visiting Dunhuang!

Out of our 9-day trip along the Qinghai-Gansu Loop, this homestay was our family's absolute favorite. It's a place with real heart and soul, where every detail is thoughtfully considered. Even our five-year-old said he'd give this hotel 30 stars! The homestay has a great design aesthetic, and the rooms are spotless, perfectly matching the tastes and ideas of younger travelers. We always bring our own disposable toiletries when we travel, but here, everything was already provided in the room. I also really loved the landlady – she's just one of those people you instantly like, and it was so comfortable interacting with her. From the moment we checked into the homestay in Dunhuang, we had such a positive impression of the city. Even though our stay was brief, it's full of beautiful memories. When we were leaving, she found out my child liked apricots and even gave him some from her own yard, which was incredibly touching. The breakfast offered a wide variety, and it was all very enjoyable. I truly recommend this homestay if you're coming to Dunhuang. I hope everyone gets to experience the genuine warmth and hospitality during their travels here. Their raisins are also highly recommended!

Very satisfied! The bed was super comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. It's right next to the desert, which is cool. Xiao Yi's service was excellent, she was always ready to help with anything. I'm really happy with this trip and will definitely choose to stay here again next time.

We made a mistake choosing this hotel: the word “international” led us to believe it would be better prepared to receive foreign guests, but that was not our experience. That said, the staff’s service was excellent at all times. Although they did not speak English, they consistently made the effort to use translation tools to communicate with us and assist us in the best possible way, which we truly appreciated. The hotel was almost empty. The first breakfast took place in a huge dining area where we were the only guests, which meant the variety was quite limited. There was some Chinese food and a coffee machine, but there were no options commonly expected by international travelers, such as fruit, cereals, yogurt, or bread. That same day, we were informed that the rest of the breakfasts would be delivered directly to our room. The staff made a continuous effort to ensure we felt comfortable with this arrangement, confirming the delivery time with us each day. The room was spacious and comfortable. However, the cleanliness did not match the hotel’s level and price: the carpet had visible stains, and finding a toothpick at the entrance made it clear that cleaning standards were not adequate. In addition, the amount of shampoo and soap provided was extremely limited—again, not consistent with the quality one would expect given the building and overall appearance of the hotel. In summary, we would like to highlight the kindness and dedication of the staff, but we believe the hotel still has important aspects to improve, especially regarding international standards and cleanliness.

1. The hotel offers a complimentary airport pick-up service, and from the moment I was greeted, I could feel the staff's warm hospitality. 2. I absolutely loved the hotel's 'wild luxury' aesthetic – it's simple yet grand, with a unique and pleasant aroma. 3. The hotel's travel photography service is outstanding! I got the best set of photos I've ever had. Both the makeup artist and photographer were incredibly professional. I was instantly thrilled with the retouched photos just 5 minutes after the shoot, and even more delighted to learn they'd spend another three days on meticulous post-processing. The terrace above the lobby offers a fantastic photo op, especially with the red canopy against the desert backdrop – it's truly magnificent and a unique scene. 4. Given how dry Dunhuang is, the hotel thoughtfully provided complimentary face masks and lotion. 5. They also offered a free transfer to my next hotel.

Our stay at Colorful Danxia Flower House Hotel was truly exceptional—easily a 5-star experience. From the moment we arrived, the owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, even personally helping us carry our luggage upstairs. His hospitality didn’t stop there—he kindly assisted us in booking tickets for a local show and even drove us there himself, which made our trip so much more convenient and enjoyable. The room was spotless, one of the cleanest we’ve stayed in, and it was clear that great care is taken to maintain high standards. We also really appreciated the free laundry service, which was incredibly helpful during our travels. The location is perfect—just a short walking distance to the west entrance of the Danxia park, making it easy to explore. Right across the hotel is a fantastic restaurant, so finding great food was effortless. To top it all off, the owner even prepared thoughtful departing gifts for us, which was such a warm and memorable touch. His kindness and attentiveness truly set this place apart. If you’re visiting the area, this hotel is an outstanding choice.

If you're coming to Jiayuguan, I'd recommend staying at this hotel. It's not a hotel that aims for luxury. There are no grand crystal chandeliers or deliberate attempts to evoke a 'Northwest China' style. Instead, it's understated, almost serene. You'll find natural wood, rough stone, a lot of blank space, and very little color. The moment you open the door, you'll feel like it's not trying to imitate the Northwest, but rather as if the winds of the Hexi Corridor have been brought inside the building. I've always believed that a hotel in a particular place shouldn't just be a place to sleep. It should belong to that land. Jiayuguan doesn't feel like the beginning of a story. It feels more like its end. The Hexi Corridor gradually narrows here, the snowline of the Qilian Mountains recedes into the distance, and looking west, the Gobi Desert unfolds like a map; beyond that lies a different world. So, when I met a mother and son from Poland at the hotel's front desk, I was a little surprised. It was their first time in China. Due to the language barrier, they had a bit of trouble checking in. I helped them translate a few sentences. After things were settled, I couldn't help but ask: ”Why Jiayuguan?” To be honest, for their first trip to China, most foreigners would choose Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, or even Chengdu. Jiayuguan isn't typically on that list. The older lady didn't answer with ”because of the Great Wall” or ”because of Dunhuang.” She said it was because of a book. *Shadow of the Silk Road*. Many years ago, when she was a young girl, she read about the British travel writer Colin Thubron's journey along the Silk Road. Since then, the Silk Road has remained with her throughout her life. Not a plan, not a wish, but more like something that was bound to happen eventually. Decades passed, and she retired. So, she brought her twenty-eight-year-old son from Poland to China, to Jiayuguan. Afterwards, they would continue to Xi'an, Urumqi, Kashgar, and then travel all the way back to Europe. I suddenly realized that sometimes, people can be slowly changed by a book. Not in a week, not in a year, but over decades. The old lady's name was Margarita, and she was an English teacher. This was quickly confirmed. During our chat, I mentioned that a dish was a bit 'salty,' and she paused, then earnestly told me that 'savory' would be more accurate. I used an inappropriate tense, and she casually corrected me. I smiled and said: ”You're such a picky old lady.” She immediately shook her head. ”No. Not picky. We should use the correct English.” Later, I felt that she wasn't being picky. It's just that for a teacher, there probably isn't a retirement age. We met again at breakfast the next day. She proudly introduced her son to me. Her twenty-eight-year-old son was a young neurologist, and her older son and daughter were also doing very well in their respective fields. Mothers around the world are probably all the same. Whether from Poland or China, when they talk about their children, their eyes light up. At breakfast, she mentioned she liked red wine but was hesitant to try the unfamiliar brands on the hotel's wine list, eventually asking me to order a large bottle of beer for her. I twisted open the cap for her. She didn't pour it into a glass but instead took a direct sip from the bottle. In that moment, I suddenly thought she was very cool. Later, our conversation slowly drifted away from travel. We talked about life, and about those questions everyone encounters but for which it's hard to find standard answers. Travel always seems to have a strange power; it allows two people who wouldn't normally meet to exchange things in a strange city that they wouldn't easily say in everyday life. When I left, she invited me to visit Poland someday. I agreed. I don't know if that day will truly come in the future. But later, I kept thinking about something else. These days, we've become increasingly accustomed to letting algorithms decide our next trip. We open our phones, and trending lists, ratings, and guides tell us where to go and where to stay. But Margarita made me believe that there are still people who, because of a book they read decades ago, will cross half the globe to come to Jiayuguan. A book doesn't just change a person's mind. It can truly stay in a person's heart for decades. And then, in the winds of the Hexi Corridor, slowly come true.
