Stayed: May 26, 2026 | 1 night | Room 4F Fuji View Room
My partner and I recently enjoyed a memorable one-night romantic escape at Ooike Hotel in Fujikawaguchiko on May 26, 2026, and it exceeded every expectation we had for a special couple’s getaway centered around Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji. We specifically booked a Fuji View room on the 4th floor, and from the very first moment we entered, we knew we had made the perfect choice.
Our journey to the hotel was smooth. After arriving at Kawaguchiko Station in the late afternoon, we took a short taxi ride through the charming streets lined with cherry blossom remnants and fresh spring greenery. The hotel’s exterior already hinted at traditional Japanese elegance mixed with modern comfort — a beautiful ryokan-style building nestled in a peaceful area with excellent access to the lake and mountain views. Upon check-in, the staff greeted us warmly with genuine smiles and a small welcome gift of local tea. They took the time to explain the facilities, meal times, and onsen rules in clear English, which was greatly appreciated as we were international visitors. The entire process felt personal and unhurried, setting a relaxing tone for our short stay.
Stepping into our 4F Fuji View room was breathtaking. The room was generously spacious for a couple, featuring a harmonious blend of traditional Japanese and comfortable Western elements. Elegant tatami mats covered part of the floor, inviting us to sit and relax in the classic seiza style or simply lounge with cushions. The sleeping area had a high-quality Western-style bed setup that was firm yet plush, ensuring a restful night. Large picture windows dominated one entire wall, framing an almost surreal, unobstructed panorama of Mount Fuji.
On May 26, the weather cooperated beautifully. As the late afternoon sun began to soften, we watched the iconic snow-capped peak glow in warm golden light. The mountain stood majestic against a clear blue sky, its details crisp and vivid. We spent nearly an hour just sitting by the window, holding hands, and absorbing the view in comfortable silence. As evening approached, the colors shifted dramatically — pinks and oranges painted the sky during a stunning sunset, turning Fuji into a silhouette masterpiece. Later at night, with the room lights dimmed, we could still see the mountain’s outline under the stars, creating an incredibly romantic atmosphere that felt almost private to us alone.
One of the absolute highlights of our stay was the private open-air bath (rotenburo) attached to our room. This luxurious feature made our couple’s experience truly special. The bath was filled with silky, mineral-rich onsen water that felt incredibly soothing on the skin after a day of travel. We took turns soaking together while gazing directly at Mount Fuji. There’s something profoundly intimate and unforgettable about sharing a hot spring bath outdoors with your loved one, surrounded by nature and that legendary mountain view. The water temperature was perfect, and the wooden tub design blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings. We enjoyed it once in the evening under the stars and again early the next morning as the sky lightened. Each session left us refreshed, relaxed, and deeply connected.
Beyond our private bath, the hotel’s public onsen facilities on the upper floors were equally impressive. We visited the larger gender-separated baths in the evening and found them spotlessly clean, well-maintained, and surprisingly uncrowded. The panoramic windows there offered even wider Fuji vistas, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the scenery while enjoying the therapeutic waters. The variety of indoor and outdoor pools, along with different jet options, provided a complete onsen experience that complemented our private bath perfectly.
Dinner was another standout element that elevated our stay. Served in a private dining room reserved just for us, the kaiseki-style course was a culinary journey th
Enjoyed our stay with awesome fuji views in the day and night during our stay. We got lost and arrived later than the planned dinner time, thankfully the staff still allowed us to have our dinner after giving them a call about our delay.
A hidden gem of a hotel with spectacular views of Mount Fuji! I booked a random room just a week before Golden Week, and upon entering, I was immediately struck by how spacious and bright it was. The room itself was also very roomy and incredibly clean. Both of their hot springs offer direct, panoramic views of Mount Fuji! The large floor-to-ceiling windows in the breakfast restaurant started my day off beautifully. It happened to be Children's Day in Japan, and the hotel thoughtfully provided games and movies for the kids. I was very satisfied with this stay. I highly recommend staying two or three nights – it's truly rejuvenating.
Right outside the hotel is Lake Yamanaka, which is quieter and more affordable than Lake Kawaguchiko. Plus, there are plenty of restaurants around that stay open late, so you don't have to worry about finding food at night. This means there's no real need to book dinner with your stay. The buffet dinner wasn't anything special, though the fruit was quite good. It's a bit of a distance to Fuji-Q Highland and Lake Kawaguchiko if you're coming from abroad, taking about an hour by bus.
I was very satisfied with this hotel. From the welcome to check-in and the room facilities introduction, everything was handled excellently. We just relaxed on the sofa, and our luggage was sent directly to the room! The lobby thoughtfully provided tea, coffee, and snacks. The room was just as large and spacious as shown in the pictures. Although we had to change rooms due to availability issues, they provided all the help they could. We were able to check in early at 2 PM, and the breakfast buffet had a rich variety of options. The public bath wasn't crowded and was quite peaceful. Outside, there were even massage chairs – so comfortable! While the overall conditions and surrounding facilities might not compare to Tokyo, the entire experience and arrangements were really good.
We really loved our stay at this hotel. We chose a Japanese-style room with a direct Mt Fuji view, and the mountain was right in front of us throughout the stay. Watching Mount Fuji with its shifting clouds and changing light felt almost unreal — and we were lucky to catch a completely clear view from our room.
Our stay included both dinner and breakfast, and the food was excellent — authentic Japanese dishes, beautifully prepared, and even more special with the Mt Fuji scenery as the backdrop. The location is also very convenient, close to the bus station.
One of the highlights was definitely the onsen experience, especially the rooftop onsen overlooking Mount Fuji. It was incredibly relaxing and memorable.
Overall, a very enjoyable stay — highly recommended.
You can never go wrong with a Toyoko Inn; just book it with your eyes closed. While each location has minor differences, overall, they're consistently good. I've stayed at Toyoko Inns in several cities, and now, if there's one available, it's my first choice for a hassle-free stay. Self check-in/check-out is convenient, and breakfast and complimentary water are always included. However, the breakfast at this particular Kawaguchiko branch is the best, with warm, toasted bread, unlike the cold bread served at other Toyoko Inns.
Hotel Room: Features a built-in sauna, and offers stunning views of Mount Fuji directly from the room. Fuji appears incredibly large and close to the naked eye. The room decor is very tasteful.
Hotel Location: Situated on the lower-left side of Lake Yamanakako on the map. There's a bus stop right outside (though buses are infrequent). Within a 2-minute walk, there's a delicious hamburg steak restaurant. A 7-Eleven is about 5-10 minutes away, and you can rent bicycles near the 7-Eleven (the hotel also offers bike rentals, but they are mountain bikes, not electric, costing 2000 yen per hour or 4000 yen per day). If you walk another 10-15 minutes, you can feed swans in a designated area managed by locals (a family of three needs to buy one portion of swan food for 200 yen).
Cycling: From the hotel, it takes about 30-50 minutes to cycle to Hirano no Hama (there are many great photo spots along the way, so you don't necessarily have to go all the way to Hirano no Hama, where the wind is incredibly strong). I recommend cycling clockwise on the map and then returning the same way.
Booked this hotel for the Fuji 100 race. It's not super close to the starting line, so you need to book a shuttle in advance to get to the designated pickup/drop-off point for the event. The room had a great view of Mt. Fuji 🗻 and was very clean. Didn't get a chance to try the hot spring, but overall it was a really good stay.
Facilities:
Though a 'Super Hotel' is on the smaller side, it's quite new. We were assigned a room randomly; it was compact but had everything we needed, especially the Refa hairdryer, which was excellent – highly recommend!
Every evening from 6-8 pm, there's a complimentary self-service welcome drink in the lobby. While the selection isn't huge, it's a very thoughtful touch!
Cleanliness:
As always, Japanese hotels are impeccably clean and hygienic. For a hot spring hotel, they've done an outstanding job in this regard. 👍
Environment:
The hotel is conveniently located, with a convenience store just a 5-minute walk away. There are also several restaurants nearby, including the incredibly popular Sushiro (easy to get a table!) as well as Sukiya and yakiniku places.
Service:
The hotel does not offer shuttle service.
Even though it's near Kawaguchiko Station, it's not exactly close. The walk involves going through rural paths and fields, and while the views of Mount Fuji are stunning, watching your step on the road can be quite challenging. (See photo)
Having experienced the difficult walk, I decided to take a ride-sharing service for my return trip after check-out (1.2km, about 80 RMB).
Friendly tip: If you're traveling independently with large luggage (which is common for Japan trips) and don't plan on taking a taxi, you might want to seriously reconsider this hotel. Just looking out for my fellow travelers! 🤣🤣
One small complaint about the price: I booked a twin room with breakfast included fairly early. Later, I saw that a room without breakfast was 500 RMB cheaper per night. Given the breakfast provided by the hotel, paying that much extra for two people's breakfast really wasn't worth it.
