I recently stayed at THE BLOSSOM Kumamoto and it was easily one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in Japan.
The location is unbeatable — it’s directly connected to JR Kumamoto Station and sits above a shopping mall, which made everything incredibly convenient, from transport to dining and shopping.
The hotel itself feels very modern and well-designed. The lobby and common areas are spacious and stylish, and the rooms are surprisingly roomy by Japanese standards. Everything was spotless, and the layout (especially the separate shower and toilet areas) made the stay very comfortable.
One of the highlights was definitely the public bath (onsen). It’s clean, relaxing, and perfect after a long day of exploring. The hotel also offers great facilities overall, and you can tell everything is still quite new and well maintained.
The staff were friendly, professional, and very helpful throughout the stay. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and the service really added to the overall experience.
Overall, THE BLOSSOM Kumamoto is a perfect blend of convenience, comfort, and modern design. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kumamoto.
This Japanese onsen ryokan has a real sense of history, and its location right in the town center makes it incredibly convenient for exploring on foot. The highlight is definitely the numerous hot springs, including a standing bath. You don't need to book the private baths; you can just go from one to another, making it unnecessary to buy souvenirs from other places just to experience their baths.
Service: The staff provides professional and courteous service, and they offer pick-up and drop-off from the station.
Plus, with a one-night, two-meal plan, the quality of the meat 🥩 is exceptionally high, offering excellent value for money.
Parking was available for my medium sized car, just big enough to fit in. Asked during check in and paid for all nights of the whole stay to get my parking spot reserved. Otherwise it was first come first serve.
Room was good and size is just right for a hotel right in the city centre. Conveniently located next to Sakura Machi and Shimotori street. Overall nice and smooth experience.
This hotel is really nice and conveniently located right on top of Sakura Machi mall, so there are plenty of food options and shops for shopping.
Right across the street is a pedestrian street, which is great for walking around. It’s not too crowded, so the atmosphere is quite relaxed.
There’s also a major bus stop right downstairs, which makes it super convenient—especially if you don’t have a car. If you’re traveling between cities, this is likely a main stop you’ll pass through.
For those who drive, you can find parking nearby. The hotel may offer parking discounts at certain locations, but I’m not entirely sure which ones.
The hotel itself is beautiful, modern, and smells really nice—feels new and well-maintained. Amenities are quite complete as well.
The bed and pillows were just okay, slightly leaning towards the uncomfortable side. However, the bathroom is excellent, with a separate standing shower and a small bathtub. The room I got was also quite cute, with a small sofa area, which was a nice touch.
Location is very good, walking distance to the shopping streets.
We had everything we need from the amenities area.
Breakfast is very good range, and most important YUMMY! The staffs at the breakfast area were very friendly and helpful too, they even helped my son (5yr old) with his drink he wants 🥰
We loved the bath, face and hand towels that are used in the hotel. They feel so soft to the skin!
We loved the spacious rooms, soothing onsen, and beautiful mountain views. The meals were tasty and comforting, and the service throughout was warm and attentive. A wonderful base for exploring Aso — highly recommend!
An absolutely wonderful experience. The staff at the ryokan were incredibly polite and always ready to help with anything we needed. Upon check-in, we were provided with traditional attire, pajamas, tabi slippers, bath amenities, and a small welcome treat with matcha and coffee. We also asked at the front desk if they could give us a ride to the bus stop after check-out, and they kindly said yes, of course.
Our room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. At first, we were planning to explore several other local onsens, but after experiencing the ones at the ryokan, we felt completely satisfied.
There are separate baths for hotel guests (men’s and women’s), baths open to both guests and visitors (also divided by gender), as well as a private onsen. One of the onsens also has a sauna. The traditional dinner and breakfast were both impressive—delicious and very generous in portion. The surrounding grounds are stunning, perfect for peaceful walks. This ryokan is a bit further from the main cluster of inns, but that was exactly what we wanted—to enjoy quiet walking. At night, our futons were laid out for us, adding to the authentic experience.
The only reason I deducted one star is the very bright green light on the ceiling that stays on all night and can’t be turned off or covered. I didn’t have a sleep mask with me, and the ryokan didn’t provide one, so I had a sleepless night. It was quite unpleasant. That said, I still highly recommend this ryokan—it’s an unforgettable place to stay.
Right on a lively street, it's great! Perfect for a stroll or doing anything else. There's also a constant flow of people. Games, snacks, izakayas, and a convenience store are all downstairs. The service is also very sweet.

One of the many ryokans in the area. Picked this ryokan due to the location to the bus station, but the hotel did pick up and drop off us at the bus station. The dinner was satisfying, and as we are not very big eaters, we were so full by the end. The stay comes with private onsen which requires reservation. Hospitality of the staffs are great.
It was a very enjoyable trip 😀 The breakfast was delicious and beautiful. The service was impressive, and everyone's smiles were soothing. The view from the window was amazing, and I watched the sunset from my room. The historic hot spring was warm and comfortable. I want to go again ♪

Very nice public baths (you could use all three public baths in their sister hotels nearby
AAW7The service staff were very friendly. They greeted us at the main entrance when we arrived by car, helped us pick up our luggage, led us into the restaurant to dine, and introduced us to various ingredients and cooking methods one by one. The cooking method for dinner is very special. A fire is built on the sand and grilled. The taste is very unique. After the meal, he led us to the room and explained everything one by one, very professional. The location is relatively remote, but it can also be regarded as a unique feature. The hotel has a public bath, but we didn't go because there was a private bath in the room and the water temperature was very comfortable. Compared with other high-priced brand hotels, the price/performance ratio is really first-class, but the location is indeed relatively remote.
