Hotels With Parking in Cayo, Belize

We just got back from a weekend in Belize. Due to the Tropical Storms, we were in San Ignacio after a horrible flood. The Cahal Pech Resort made you feel like you were in a tropical land away from the busyness of the city. We rented our cabana through Airbnb, but we were able to enjoy all the amenities from the resort. We ate at the restaurant, enjoyed the pool and bar, and walked the beautiful landscape of the resort. We had excellent service at the restaurant, they have the best cheesecake I have ever eaten. The front desk staff was so helpful and accommodating. The hotel is also a stones throw away from a Mayan Ruin site.

What a wonderful small hotel with a caring staff that maintains a high level of cleaniless and service. My wife and I have been here for 6 days and enjoyed the our stay and eating at the cantina/restaurant. The whole staff from Vinnet at the front desk, to Laura and Dana in the resturant, to Diana in housekeeping and the management; all have gone above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The high quality of food at the cantina at incredible prices have made our 5 meals there most enjoyable. The Mexican Iced Coffee is to die for! The food was filling and the sopas delighted my wife! The pool is super clean and the walkways are well lit with security lights making us feel extra safe even though the neighborhood seems quiet and nice. The off-street parking for our rental was also an added bonus! We would definelty stay at this hotel again and give it 10 stars out of 10!!

The hotel is situated on the main road near the village centre, which can be reached via a bridge over the river. The room is decent, spacious, with air conditioning and a fan. The bed is big and comfortable, with nice linen. There is an ironing board with an iron, a microwave and - what is important in this heat - a fridge. The bathroom is ok and the shower has warm water. Mike who manages the hotel is very very helpful, kind and caring, he is really great!

The location is in the heart of the town, with shops, restaurants and the farmers market all right there. It is bustling and a bit noisy, but that was fine with us. The room was decent, but the mattress was tired, and no shower curtain resulted in an unnecessarily wet bathroom floor. The price and location made up for those negatives, and joining excursions from here was easy and convenient. Good value for the price, as long as you are realistic about charming old hotels.

Maya Mountain Lodge was a great base for our 4 days in the San Ignacio area. It’s a beautiful, safe property just outside town with little cabins that are not fancy but are very functional. The hospitality was better than average, with good communications ahead of our arrival to help arrange tours and easy access to assistance via WhatsApp while we were there. Levi and Cesar were very responsive to questions and requests. We chose the lodge in part because of the kitchen, so we wouldn’t have to eat every meal out. They supply a nice variety of dishes and cookware that were organized and clean (save one frying pan that had dried egg on the outside), as well as a sponge and dish soap. We also ate two dinners and one breakfast at Fiona’s on-site, and it was really delicious! Chicken, lamb chop, pasta, and Belizean breakfast were all excellent and reasonably priced. Fruits and veggies were fresh from the market and although they don’t serve any alcohol, the mocktail was very tasty too. Fiona herself was delightful. We didn’t feel the need to visit any other restaurants while in town because Fiona’s was so pleasant and convenient. Our cabin did have some room for small improvements that I think could make a big difference. All of the glazed windows were above eye level and not all of the shuttered windows had screens, so you couldn’t enjoy the view of the surrounding garden/forest if you wanted to run the AC or keep mosquitoes out. The two ductless AC units were a godsend after sweaty jungle tours! There was at least one leak in the thatched roof (thankfully in the kitchen rather than over the bed), though in their defense I think we were there during abnormally heavy rain. The other thing that would be nice is somewhere comfortable to sit indoors other than the bed. The kitchen chairs are hard and very low relative to the table. I found the bed too firm, but it did have a mattress topper and the linens and pillows were nice. They thoughtfully supply you with beach-type towels for your excursions too. I think the final useful addition would be some sort of shoe scraper/brush on the front porch to remove the jungle mud. Overall, Maya Mountain Lodge provides a really nice place to stay at a good value, and Fiona’s is worth a visit in itself!
