nice to have buffet breakfast every morning (albeit limited food options). the location is far from city centre, suitable for people with good fitness and don’t mind walking to and from the centre as there’s no public transport basically - polar summer, no problem; polar night, weather may make the walk harder. staff were friendly and helpful. cooking amenities and dining space were adequate and guests could enjoy dinner together after cooking. there’s a polar bear sign at about 50m up the road from the hotel, and the mountain view was great especially covered with snow.
It's a bit far from the city center, but for the price, don't worry about the distance. You'll basically be on a tour every day, and they'll pick you up. I thought the breakfast and rooms were very good; there's heating, and it's big enough for four people. Breakfast includes salmon.
The location is great, right at the first stop of the airport bus, next to the tourist center, you can consult and book items. The supermarkets, restaurants, shops and museums are not far away. The room is very comfortable. I live on the third floor and can see the snow-capped mountains while lying on the bed. The bathroom is very large and the shower water is very big. Breakfast has smoked salmon, bagels are very delicious, and there is also a red berry juice that is sour and sweet.
Considering the cost of living in Svalbard, I was initially looking for a budget accommodation, but the photos I saw in the reviews were very attractive, so I chose this hotel. In the end, this was the right choice.
Location: It is a very convenient location, just a 5-minute walk from the center of town, and within a 10-minute walk from the sea, clock tower, and sake brewery.
Scenery: I was able to enjoy the magnificent mountain views from the large windows in the room.
Room comfort: It was spacious enough for one person, and it was equipped with central heating in the winter, so I was able to stay comfortable without feeling cold. There was a lamp by the pillow, and it was bright enough.
And the WIFI was fast and problem-free.
Shared bathroom: It was very clean, and even though I shared it with many guests, the toilet and shower were always available when I needed them.
Breakfast: The repertoire was consistent, but the bread and baked goods were freshly baked and crispy.
The croissants in particular were delicious, and especially so when eaten with salmon and cheese.
Tour: Although I didn't book through the hotel, the tour company's bus came to pick me up at the bus stop in front of the hotel, so I was able to join smoothly.
Overall: I stayed a total of four nights, and my stay was so comfortable that I wanted to postpone my flight until the day before departure and stay an extra night.
I arrived in late May. The weather was mostly cloudy to overcast, with temperatures hovering around zero degrees Celsius. Surprisingly, it didn't feel bitterly cold – the kind of zero where you don't need a heavy down jacket and can still be comfortable in single-layer pants. Compared to the UK (I'd just come from Shetland), the wind wasn't strong either. It was quite pleasant to walk along the beach and stroll through the town. However, the beachfront itself was rather bleak and neglected, a mix of muddy broken rocks, and some patches of un-melted ice. It was incredibly quiet, save for the occasional sound of what I think were wild ducks.
The room was pretty standard. The heating was only so-so, usually cutting out once the room reached 20°C. The shower pressure was also quite weak. Since the accommodation is built entirely from repurposed shipping containers, I could clearly hear every sound and movement from the room above mine (I was on the ground floor).
That said, for this time of year, paying 1300 RMB for a room that included a very decent breakfast, at one of the world's northernmost locations, and enjoying the unique experience of a cigarette under the midnight sun – it was ultimately well worth the price.
Breakfast was rich! Choose a lot of these! This hotel is the only 4-star hotel in Svalbard! There are saunas and outdoor baths! It's warm inside the hotel! Also close to the local supermarket! Environmental facilities are really good, love his sauna! It's so comfortable!
