The hotel is just above the Mei Lanfang Grand Theater. I stayed here because my children had competitions. The price of the hotel also increased because of the competitions. Many contestants stayed here. I saw many judges while having breakfast. From the hotel to Mei Lan Fang Grand Theater still has to walk a hundred meters out of the hotel. It’s also very cold for the children to put on their costumes and go out. It would be nice if the hotel had a special passage.

We have had a very great experience by staying at HouHaiYuan Hotel with the following reasons: 1. Great location - this hotel is located at 前井胡同，which is a very quiet and serene location. However, it is just a 5 minute walking distance to one of the moat popular tourist attractions - 烟袋斜街，and it is also walking distance to 南锣鼓巷 (about 15 min) and to 恭王府 （about 10 min). It is a walking distance to train station 2. Cleanliness & housekeepong - the room is very clean and every items in the room are free for use, including the beer and drinks in the mini bar 3. Service - the service of the hoteliers are superb! They are very helpful and they were trying their best to assist us in many areas, including helping us in arranging transportation and also our food order as we were unable to do it ourselves due to we are not having a phone line in china.

I believe that such a hotel can be found at this price in such a good location in the center of Beijing. When you open the window, you can see the Bell and Drum Tower. The room is also very clean. The most important thing is that the service is very kind and friendly. One night, I went back after 5 o'clock and the lady boss opened the door. I'm really grateful. Although I don't recommend that you do this, be sure to tell her in advance if you come back late. A slight drawback is that the soundproofing is a little poor and there is no elevator to go upstairs. However, this is not a big problem. I will stay here again when I visit the Bell and Drum Towers in Beijing in the future. It is really affordable and a cost-effective choice.

Location of hotel is best as it located within 5min walking distance from Metro line 2 and Metro line 8 which connected to many tourist places. I absolutely loved the Shadow Puppetry aspect of this hotel. They do performances every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 8pm. Even though I don't speak Chinese, I really enjoyed the performances and the demonstrations of the history and logistics of the puppets. I also got to paint my own puppets after the show (for an extra fee), which I loved. Really friendly staff and beautiful décor. It would have been nice to have some more natural light in my room and the walk back to the hotel was pretty dark at night and away from the main street, which I would have preferred to avoid as a solo female traveller. However, all of this was made clear when booking the hotel, so they set clear expectations and made it a memorable and comfortable stay. Would recommend!

Those who are sensitive to this can pay attention. In addition, I would like to give a small suggestion to the store owner. When we checked in, the front desk helped us check in and helped us carry the suitcase to the second floor. If you take a taxi, remember to tell the driver that the alley is passable. Many drivers will be reluctant to drive in when they see the alley is narrow. I didn’t know beforehand, so I was put on the main road and walked into the alley with my suitcase. But it’s not far away and is only a few minutes away from the straight road. The alley may be dark at night, but there are many people walking there and it is not dangerous at all. There are many restaurants and coffee shops hidden in the alley. It is recommended that you try them all. The house is really as pictured. There is also a smart TV in the room. If you don’t want to go out, you can use it. The only shortcoming is that the sound insulation is poor. On the day I checked in, I happened to meet an uncivilized family. The children were noisy from morning to night, and they were still on at almost midnight. The door was talking loudly and running up and down the corridor. I was an extremely light sleeper and went to bed early, so it affected my sleep. But at night after everyone fell asleep, it was really quiet. If you want to experience a courtyard house and don’t mind poor soundproofing, I highly recommend this hotel. After all, hotels near tourist attractions in Beijing are quite expensive. This hotel is affordable. It’s close to Gulou Street, Nanluogu Lane, and Shichahai. You can go shopping in the morning, lunch and evening. It’s very convenient to take the subway and bus. There are also shared bicycles.

Location: The hotel is in the middle of Hutong community, it is great for getting a glimpse of life in Hutong. Once you make your way out of the Hutong, it is close to a variety of restaurants. It is close to Yaoji Gulou store, which you can have a taste of traditional Beijing breakfast. The downside of being tucked in the Hutong is, it takes 10 min to walk in (ok in normal standards, but a bit hard when check-in/check-out with kids and luggage), and some Didi driver would whine a bit when they drive in. Interior: The lobby has many traditional Chinese activities for you to try for free, such as traditional clothes, go chess, chinese chess, Guzhen, tea set etc. Fun for both kids and adults. The room is nice and clean. Staff: Staff were very welcoming and responsive. You can tell they've put a lot of thoughts into their services down to the little details such as when to pack the breakfast for us.
