The Aquila Atlantis Hotel has been synonymous with the development of the city for 50 years attracting celebrities and people from all walks of life. The hotel was redeveloped in 2013, and has a calming decor and colour palette, providing a relaxing bar/lounge area in the lobby, fantastic views over the city from its rooftop pool, spacious and modern rooms, and professional, friendly staff.

We visited this well run hotel - 19th - 27th September - all the staff are very polite, friendly and helpful. Our room 406 was very well appointed and bed very comfortable. Airconditioned which we used when the nights were hot. Housekeeping did an excellent job. The hotel is in a good position, just moments walk to the Old Town, and a 12-15 minute to the nearest beach. Breakfast excellent choices of hot & cold food, with local selection of cakes, savoury and sweet Cretin pies. Local selection of bread and large selection of unusual jams and breakfast spreads. I would like to thank personally Nikos (Food & Beverage Manager)- for his friendship and ensuring that our breakfast meal was being enjoyed. He spoke to us personally each morning and he gave us some good information of places to visit outside Chania. Also I would like to thank - Emmanuella (Front of House- Reception)- again her friendship and she would also talk to us every time we passed the front desk. She again gave us very valuable information of places to visit, and organised taxi's and booked a day-trip by coach and boat. Emmanuella was again very polite, helpful yet professional, and helped make our holiday most memorable. A big thank you also to Necteria (breakfast server)- every morning she spoke to us, and remembered our breakfast order, she was so kind and helpful. We would certainly return to Samaria Hotel, and would recommend without hesitation - we have some lovely memories. Hotel has a good swimming pool,

Stayed in suite with sea view. The view was amazing. The room was lovely, bed super comfy. There was a nice vanity table to get ready at. Bathroom was big and clean. The service at reception were very helpful. The location was great right in old town but not too noisy - music from restaurant in evening but I liked it and church bells on Sunday. I really enjoyed my stay here and was very happy with the suite. Couple of things to point out: there was no furniture on the balconies and aside from a pouf, no furniture in room to move outside. So meant nothing to sit on to enjoy balcony and it’s view. Also the curtain was only half curtain so to block out light need to shut the shutters which then restricts air. I didn’t mind but if you want darkness to sleep might need to bring eye mask. Like I said only minor things. Overall great place. Hot water - i mention as I know this is important to people :)

We stayed at the hotel for five nights in July 2022. There were eight of us in total so two families. The location is absolutely perfect as it is right in the middle of Heraklion, opposite the bustling square with its wonderful with its Artisan stalls which are worth visiting and only a short walk to the shops and wonderful selection of restaurants. Heraklion is a truly bustling and Cosmopolitan city. The Hotel is very close to Heraklion Archaeological Museum and a bus or taxi ride to the beach. It is also not too far from the port you can walk there but we took a very quick taxi due to the heat. Upon arrival we were made to feel very welcome and our baggage was taken to our room for us. The reception area is refreshing to walk into from the heat outside and the decor is lovely and very modern with a comfortable seating area. There is a downstairs bar which is very chic with beautiful artwork where you can eat and you can just walk through to the shops outside to have a mooch with is perfect. Our check in process was very smooth and efficient. Check out is at 12 and check in is at 2. We had travelled from Chania by taxi. and were a little early. The gentleman on reception was able to find our group a room to check into while they got our other rooms ready which was very helpful and we did not have to wait too long. We had the economy rooms two different types between us. The ones which have balconies and the ones which are inside but don't have a balcony. The latter were a bit bigger than the ones with the balcony and the children's bed has its own little area which we really liked. The bathroom and room were very clean and the cleaners were very helpful and polite. We had a small fridge all the usual amenities you would expect and the air conditioning always worked well. I really feel (being from the UK) that the hotel represents very good value for the price we paid - if we were to pay a similar price in England we would not be staying in nearly such a nice hotel that's for sure. Certainly not one with a pool on the roof! We absolutely loved the roof area. The pool is quite small (but still big enough to have a lovely, cool swim). The pool area is clean and there are sunbeds and chairs you can sit on around the pool and plenty of place to sunbathe. It is absolutely lovely the perfect place to relax and take in the view. They also have a lifeguard up there at all times which we were not expecting. The pool is open until 8 at night but you can still go up to the roof for drinks and to eat your dinner after this time. They also provide towels for you which is great. The bar on the roof is absolutely excellent and the service is impeccable. The bar staff and waiters and waitresses work so hard and are so friendly (whilst also remaining professional). The bar food is great especially the mini burgers and the club sandwiches are to die for. You can also have dinner up on the roof and there are lots of lovely tables and chairs to chose fro

Very good location, close to the port, long distance and short-distance bus station. Walk for a few minutes. It is also close to the busiest square, full of restaurants and cafes. No need to choose a sea view room, the window is small, a little sea view. The front desk service is very good, the commercial atmosphere of Crete is not strong, people are very friendly!

I had a pleasant 7 night stay here at this accommodation while in Heraklion, Crete. It belongs to the Lato Boutique, which is the main hotel. The Annex is right opposite and required card access to enter. Room was the Economy room (15 sq. metres), a little on the small side, but good enough for a solo traveller. The room was right next to the stairwell and the lift, so there were times I could hear people moving about, but at night it was very quiet, and there were no sleep disruptions. Bed was comfy, air-conditioning was also good. The shower was also good, with shampoo and soap provided, though I noticed it was running a little low towards the end of my stay (i.e., no refills were done). I also appreciated that a luggage rack was provided, along with two bottles of water on check-in day. Fridge was big enough to fit lots of mineral water bottles to keep them cold, which would be a great reprieve in the summer time. Room safe was incredibly huge as well, it can easily store laptops securely, if needed. The elevator door got stuck on the day of check-out, but still worked, so not too big of an issue there. Wi-Fi requires a special code that you can get from the reception. My first code strangely stopped working after two days, but was promptly rectified after I informed the reception of the issue. There were no other connectivity issues for me. The hotel location is pretty near to the Venetian Port, and the Rocca Fortress; it is also walking distance away from the main shopping street in Heraklion and lots of good eating places nearby. There are also supermarkets nearby to get water as well. It does get quiet at night, but I did not encounter any incidents that made me feel unsafe. My room came with buffet breakfast included, which is served in the main building. Breakfast starts service from 7 am onwards, and was generally quite crowded at the start. Depending on the crowd level, the staff will occasionally open up a new section of the dining area. Breakfast was generally good, there was a good spread of American breakfast items, to pastries, ham and cheese and even Greek yogurt with a lot of condiments. It varied a little bit from day-to-day, but was generally the same for the most part.

I was really looking forward to this trip to Crete but my high hopes were dashed when I arrived at this hotel. We paid good money to be in the area but what we got was a second-rate dump. We did not even get to stay in the main hotel! Even though we booked more than 3 months in advance we were relegated to some hastily remodeled dirty annex across the street. No A/C in either building except in your room so eating meals or hanging out in the social area were very uncomfortable. The bathroom was so small I had to lean to the right anytime I had use the facilities because the counter overhung the toilet by a third. Hair from the previous guest was all over the bathroom so I question whether or not the room was ever cleaned. Hallways are dingy and dark with room service trays that sat in the way for days! Elevator is so small only one person can go up at a time - if you have luggage you are taking the stairs. ”Breakfast” was so bad that even though it was free my wife and I walked elsewhere to find food every morning. The bed was so hard we could only sleep for a few hours at a time before we woke up with aches and pains. To say that this experience was a major disappointment would be a massive understatement.

The hotel is strategically located within walls of old city between the beach of Ammoudara and the main attractions, not so far from them. Hotel is re-innovated 7 floor building. Rooms are not large, but but enough for the convenient accommodation. The room has the safe, TV, several chairs, table and the wardrobe, electric kettle, air conditioner. There is quite large balcony with two beach chairs and the small table and also drying hanger for the clothes. Unfortunately there is quite a lot of dust in the air from street, so everything gets dusty very quickly. The room has electric sockets next to the beds and two other sockets, one of them with USB port. The personnel speaks English and very friendly and helpful. The avenue Kalokerinou named after the discoverer of the Knossos Palace is quite busy road so it is nicer to live on higher floors. There is a restaurant serving good continental breakfast. There is omelette, ham, cheese, Greek yogurt, flakes, fruits, on the menu. Just 70 meters from the hotel there is Bazaar and in 200 m is Chalkiadakis supermarket, Lidl in 800 m outside of the city walls. All closed on Sundays. The avenue Kalokerinou has several street food places, and if you walk 400 m to Morosini Lions Fountain you can find even more restaurants there. Heraklion has a problem with great beaches, but in 500 m from the hotel there is a Dermatos Bay, where is a wild beach where one can deep into the sea. The proper beach is in Ammoudara in 2.2 km from the hotel. There is another beach in 1 km in front of Talos Plaza shopping mall, but it is rocky and no sunbeds or lifeguard. Another place to swim is the port mole starting from the Kules fortress in 1.2 km. The mole protects from high waves when it is windy and other places are not suitable for swimming.

Great hotel, the rooms were spotless, the cleaning staff were attentive and friendly, the front desk staff was cheerful and extremely helpful when I needed some meds on a Sunday. They searched for a pharmacy that was open, and then called to make sure. Great place. And the breakfast is very comprehensive!

The hotel is not in the old town of Iraqi Lion, but the location is very good, 5 minutes walk from the station, parking around is also convenient. The room was clean, spacious, quiet and the facilities were very new. We enjoyed our stay very much. Hotel service is also very good, help us call a taxi. Many local rentals in Heraklion do not play tables, so I ask for the hotel, which is very convenient. Recommended stay.

Can only echo all the other reviews. From the moment you enter the clean smart reception there is an air of total relaxation. all of the staff were very attentive without being over the top. Special mentions go to Manager owner Petros whose genuine customer service and caring sets the culture for the entire hotel to restaurant staff Manolo and Anastasia both of whom are great characters and made the stay extremely enjoyable. The food was absolutely AMAZING the milanese risotto with ossobucco takes a lot of beating but this was surpassed by the lobster and scallop soup (see photo). We could not fault the room either. Yes is was one of the top rooms the dome suite 532 and yes the views from both inside and the pool were great. There was the coastal rd but did not interfere with the relaxing vibe. Prices within the hotel were very fair, often cheaper than outside (which is fantastic based on the quality). The Cretan wines recommended by Manolo were some of the best we have experienced. Would certainly book this again, just looking for the excuse now.

i came here with my boyfriend for a week in june and had such an amazing time. the rooms and facilities were clean, all the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. the breakfast was really nice and the bar service to the pool was a great bonus. My boyfriend and I are only 18 and 19 and were probably the youngest couple there, but we did not feel out of place and there was still plenty to do in the town of chania. the harbour is incredibly lively and exciting- we spent most our nights here. we also saved some money due to free shuttle to and from the hotel which ran up until 12pm - we only needed to pay for a taxi once when we had one late night. would totally recommend this hotel. the restaurant was also delicious on the night and the views/ sunset were incredible. thank you so much royal sun for making out first holiday together so special!!

thank you for a pleasent stay, upgrande of our room and gluten and lactose free meal supply. Animators Carla and Lauda were our favourite ones and our daughter talk about them even we already returned back to home. For her absolutely fantastic holiday. I can´t also forget to mention the Magic Circus Show and the French protagonists. They makes their job so profesional and makes the people smily and happy. That was absolutely good choice of the hotel managers to choose them !! Fingers up who sign them. From our point of view everything was fine. We stayed here on our first time visit to Crete and it did not disappoint! The hotel is in the heart of the Old Town and a few feet from a plethora of restaurants and shops! The hotel is situated in front of the harbor that is buzzing with people and activities. Our room had an amazing sea view! We could not get enough of the gorgeous view! Our room was well-sized and pretty. The hotel staff were very attentive and accommodating. The included breakfast was generous and included traditional Cretan fare with fruits, pastries, eggs, assorted breads, etc., Neo Chora beach is walking distance from the hotel. We spent an enjoyable time on this quiet beach. I would stay here again and wholeheartedly recommend this hotel!

Perfect stay in a lovely small-feel hotel right on the beach. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Sam and George in particular made us feel like VIPs! The breakfast spread was one of the best I have ever had in a hotel, with a vast range of cooked and continental options. Everything was spotless. The restaurant offers a good range of drinks and lunch (on the beach or on the lawn) and dinner in the evening. If you fancy a change of scenery for dinner, I recommend walking along the beach at sunset to eat at one of the many excellent beach bars towards to harbour.

If you book a room with a balcony facing the sea lighthouse, your trip to Chania will be halfway through. The experience is great. Breakfast is delivered to the room and can be enjoyed on the terrace. The room is very large, but it may not be an extra bed. I have not asked. Parking must stop at the parking lot outside the old city, it is a bit inconvenient, but there is no way

The hotel is in an excellent location to explore Iraklion. There is a good restaurant, called Xayiati, directly opposite serving delicious Greek food and there is a wide choice of restaurants in the city centre a short walk away. The rooms were modern, spacious and comfortable with plenty of electric sockets and a kettle to make hot drinks. The breakfast was very good. There was lots of choice. The food was set out to allow social distancing and gloves and hand sanitiser were provided. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There was a car park a few metres away which the hotel has a special arrangement with so that guests pay a discounted rate.

It is only one block away from the shopping and pedestrian street, only a 5-minute walk from the beach, and only 4 kilometers from the airport. The suite is great, with a balcony. The hotel is clean and tidy. The original check-in at 2 pm was very intimate and informed that you can check in at 10 am. If you still go to Crete, you will definitely choose this hotel. The only thing missing is that there is no gym.

I will try and keep this review to the point. Arrived for a 7 day stay at this hotel. Hotel looks amazing from everywhere. Booked a dazzling sea view room and when we arrived I realised it was not a dazzling sea view room and was more what other hotels would refer to as a partial sea view room - showing slight sea view from a corner. I raised it with staff who advised it was sea view but could look at it tomorrow which given the time I agreed to. I also raised it with my travel company. The following morning in the afternoon I was shown another room which wasn’t a proper sea view either. Given that I paid a considerable amount more for a sea view I wasn’t happy with the room provided. I showed the guy in reception the photo of the room I chose when booking and he told me that it “was just marketing” to which I responded it’s false advertising - he then walked off and left us. Later in the day we had a call from guest relations to ask how our first night had been etc which was nice and I explained the night had been ok but room wasn’t good. The lady told me I was in a urban city room not a dazzling sea view which I had chosen and paid more for. I later received a call from my travel company who advised that another room would be shown. Guest manager maria advised she wasn’t sure why we had been told it was city urban view but the new room was front facing sea view - we eventually moved on day 2 and there was no reimbur*****t for the days we were in the incorrect room. The new room was good but just a shame that it took so long to resolve as nobody wants a bad start to their holiday. My second critique of this hotel is front reception staff - mainly the men. Their attitude is poor and any questions appear to be a chore for them. When we arrived I asked about late checkout as our flight wasn’t until 11.55pm. I was told to request it a day before which I did. I was then told to come at 9pm and I explained I had dinner reservations but would come later In the night. I already knew there was an additional charge to keep the room which I was happy to pay. I was then told the hotel was fully booked and late checkout was not available now but we would have access to facilities. This again left a sour note to the holiday as it meant we had to rush and pack and then didn’t have comforts of using bathroom or resting etc. I also checked the hotel website and *********** which showed the hotel did have room availability so the guy on reception was being dishonest. I did challenge him On this but he didn’t appear to care and said if I wanted to book another room I could but it wouldn’t be ready until 3pm the next day. I could write so much more about this experience but overall it really ruined the day and final day of holiday. What was meant to be a relaxing day ended up being stressful as we had to be out the room by 11 and then had nowhere to really rest. Now onto the positives because there are some. The hotel facilities are very good and new, the swimming is a highlight, and the sunset is especially beautiful. The recliners by the pool need to take a seat in the morning, the towels provided by the recliners and the seat covers are clean and comfortable. The restaurant is romantic and the food is delicious. Hotel service staff try their best to provide services, but seems to be insufficient skills, questions can not be answered in time, need patience, etc. Overall very recommended hotel

It was an absolutely wonderful experience and I would surely recommend it to anyone who’s searching for a luxurious hotel to spend their free time. First of all, the staff was really kind, they always have smiles on their faces and they make you feel like home with their will to do anything that you can think of. I can clearly see the improvement they’ve made on every sector of the hotel in comparison with last year. Moreover, even the food menu is better as we tried some new special flavours that matched the elegant form of the hotel. Dining at the restaurants Makuti and Umami were two of the experiences that created in me the need to stay. Last but not least, Mrs.Anastasia Deligianni was the source of the positive energy for all the staff, as she first welcomed us with a very big smile. Of course I will come again as it was my favourite one out of all the hotels I’ve been to.

Great location near Heraklion, a hotel on the beach, nice for chill out moments, golden sand. Menu at the restaurant needs update. Rooms are great too. Entertainment is quite poor, a bit boring , except the one with disco party night. The dj there is really good, and is trying to entertain the guests even though that the most of the guests are families with so many children around, dancefloor looks like a huge kids playground!!! Unbelievable we couldn’t dance because of so many children around, even though that the music was excellent that night. I would wish to see less children the next time to visit this beautiful hotel in Crete.

The most beautiful stay! My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights for a babymoon and it was wonderful. On arrival, the staff had upgraded us to a garden room which was huge with a large balcony, side sea view and incredibly comfortable bed. There was a bottle of Prosecco and cold plate awaiting us in the room. The shower is very powerful and the bath is huge! The whole hotel is stunning and immaculately clean. The staff work so hard to care for the hotel and grounds and it really shows. The restaurants are fabulous. I'm veggie and when asked to review my stay after a couple of days, I commented that the only thing I would change was the veggie options. The following two nights at dinner, we were treated like royalty with specially made or recommended dishes. It was so special and I felt very lucky and cared for at the hotel. Despite the beauty and grandeur, the hotel has a lovely, relaxed feel. Every member of staff we met was friendly, kind and helpful. It is such a nice atmosphere at Amirandes. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff even brought me up some milk when I had terrible heartburn! Just gorgeous people all round. The hotel has a short pathway to a private, sandy beach with plenty of loungers, towels are all included and laid out, no queueing! The sea is calm and clear, perfect for swimming and snorkelling and you can order food and drinks to your lounger if you like too. This was truly a 5 star experience and we will be booking again with our new arrival for out first family holiday without a doubt! Huge thanks to all the staff for making our time so special. A stunning and family-friendly hotel with all you could ask for on the grounds. From a beautiful gym, swimming pools galore to an incredible water park on site for not just the little ones but the big kids too… it has it all! The food courts had so much variety too with different settings for different nights. The entertainment kicked in just as I was leaving and the bar side singing was just beautiful, a great touch to the space ito give it that adult-exclusivity feel away from the other areas of the hotel which catered for the whole family.

We went from 28 May to 4 June. We arrived just before midnight and so were advised to go straight for something to eat and then we were shown to our rooms. Good points - the resort is spotless, I think I saw two items of litter the whole holiday. The food at the buffet was the best of any all inclusive hotel I have been to. Being able to eat at the a la carte restaurants was also a treat. We managed to eat at them all and our favourites were Mademi and Pithos. You can only book one day in advance so top tip is to download the app and at 7.30am bookings for the restaurants open for the following day. This way we got to try all of the restaurants and the food at them all was very impressive and beautifully presented. We weren’t a fan of the main pool which was very busy, Sun loungers were saved early on. But if you explore you will find a pool that suits you. We loved the Pithos Pool, there were always sun loungers available and at times we had the pool to ourselves. Other pools also had loungers available throughout the day. We also weren’t a fan of the beach which is more pebbles than sand and packed with sun loungers but we loved the spot by the sea next to the Medemi restaurant. We always managed to grab a sun lounger and the view of the sea was much prettier here. Great spot for snorkelling. The gyros bar by the main pool is worth a visit for chicken or pork in a pitta wrap with salad and fries. There is also a smoothie/juice bar and ice cream bar next door. The outdoor cinema was also great although we got bitten a lot by mosquitoes so wear protection. The tv in the room had Netflix and YouTube which was great for the day of bad weather we had during our stay. We did struggle to find shelter during a thunderstorm because the bar area was busy but in the original reception area opposite the Estia restaurant we discovered another indoor bar area with lots of seating. The entertainment is less visible than other resorts but I suspect it is just because the resort is so big. They are based by the pool near the water slides. We watched the circus show one evening and the Disney show, both were very good. The staff are all very friendly and clearly take pride in the resort. On one evening my daughter left her bag in a restaurant and as soon as we realised we went to reception and were very impressed that it had already been handed in. We also left a tv fire stick in our room. My husband emailed the hotel to ask for it to just be removed and destroyed. The hotel replied within a few hours to say they had retrieved the device and had posted it back to us. Assuming it arrives back we are very impressed by this level of service. Few ******s if we are being picky… We booked sea view rooms but were on the side of the hotel so had to stand at the edge of the balcony and turn our heads to see a little bit of sea, which was a little disappointing. We were only ever offered one drink with the buffet meals and even with the a la carte book
