i really really enjoyed my stay at the poshpacker! the place is oozing with atmosphere and is filled with friendly faces. the attendants were very kind and provided service in both chinese and enlish. the location of the hostel is great, about 8 minute walk to the IFS and the metro station. if you’re travelling by yourself i sincerely recommend this place :DD

I was genuinely shocked by the hostel staff's blunt reminder for the first time. Having stayed in so many hostels over the past decade, I'm truly taken aback by this one. I was exhausted and couldn't be bothered to argue, even though I stayed here two years ago. This experience, with its bizarre turn, means I will never choose any 'Backpacker's Decade' establishment again. Regardless, this is the service industry, and a certain short, chubby staff member was truly impolite. This isn't just about basic staff etiquette; it's about basic adult courtesy. (The chubby staff member on duty late at night was very good, though). If you don't want fundamental service issues to ruin your travel mood, as a frequent hostel guest and someone who generally goes with the flow, my advice is: give other Chengdu hostels a chance.

I stayed in the female capsule room. The first floor environment was quite good, but once you get to the fourth floor, it's exactly as shown in the pictures – all metal grates. I initially had trouble finding my way; the front desk just told me to go straight out of the elevator. I only found out where to go after asking another guest. The room itself was pretty clean, but they didn't provide a toothbrush or toiletries during my stay. I didn't sleep too well; someone was making calls at 11 PM, and people were still showering at 2 or 3 AM. The room isn't soundproof at all, so you can hear everything clearly. However, the upside is having a small room to yourself, though it's only slightly more spacious than a regular 6 or 8-person dorm. Just a heads-up for anyone considering it: it's fine if you're just looking for a temporary stopover. After all, what more can you expect for this price?

I booked this hostel online for my trip, just to try it out, expecting a basic place to crash. To my surprise, it was much better than I anticipated! The beds were very clean and hygienic, and the bathroom was well-ventilated. Housekeeping cleaned promptly every day, and we even got a free bottle of mineral water. The large common area on the 6th floor was great for eating takeout – it was sunny, warm, and they even had folk music performances sometimes, creating a really lively atmosphere. A special shout-out to the front desk staff, who were incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. They even recommended some authentic local snacks nearby. It's only a few hundred meters from the subway station, and there are tons of snack stalls downstairs, many of which are open until the early hours. For me, this place offers a tranquil spot in a bustling area, perfectly quiet and peaceful. For just a few tens of yuan, such value for money is rare these days. I highly recommend everyone to come and give it a try!
The room is very spacious, and the location is excellent, right next to Lushan Mountain, perfect for a hike. There are plenty of food options nearby, and you can also order takeout. I heard the guesthouse offers shared meals, but I didn't participate. The atmosphere was quite nice, with lots of chatting and laughter. There's a pool table on the third floor, but no one to play with me! 😂 Downstairs, there's a very cute blue cat. When I came back from Silver Beach in the afternoon, it was all alone, so I petted it, and it immediately became very friendly. When I sat down, it came closer and rubbed against me. ☺️ It even jumped onto the table and nuzzled my shoulder! 😀

His world is a quiet one.
Before booking this hostel, I read reviews mentioning that the caretaker was deaf and very frugal. This proved to be true upon my arrival. At night, he'd only use a projector to watch TV, leaving the front desk area dimly lit. By day, he was up very early, meticulously cleaning and tidying up the place.
He's actually quite a decent person, always proactively helping guests secure lower bunks. The only hurdle is the communication. However, solo female travelers might find his non-verbal sounds unsettling or even frightening.
I can't help but wonder about his story. I hope all future guests will show a little more patience and understanding, and not be put off by him.
(For context, I was a black female solo traveller)
Location
On a long street with many restaurants and shops along the street and a self service ATM 5 -10 min walk away, including a small market in the mornings. It is a residential area, so you will most likely be the only foreigner, but people are extremely friendly and helpful, albeit the stares. The entrance faced the main road and was well lit. There is a flight of stairs that you will need to go up to get to the hostel area. If you have not tried hot pot, I would def recommend going to the Haichiniu Xianxianqie Beef Self service Hot Pot place which is around 5 mins walk down the road.
Quite far from the centre of the city however it is extremely easy to get to. During the day, there is a close proximity to the underground around 10 min walk, and there is a bus that I took from the city centre to right outside the hostel door where the bus stop was. If you are going through the night/early morning, it is extremely easy to catch a taxi through apps and it is quite cheap (around 40- 70 yen) and the road is very well lit. I felt completely safe in the area.
Service
Chu, the hostel aunty is warm and helpful, and gives you a sense of being home away from home. This included being made some home made dumplings to celebrate Golden Week which tasted delicious! She gave recommendations on places to go and made sure that I kept safe when out. As another review said, it can be a bit difficult communicating if you don't know Chinese as no English at the hostel or around the area is spoken and it can get quite draining/ mentally challenging at times for us, however Chu still tried her best to communicate regardless and I really appreciated the effort. To get around this and to make your stay more enjoyable, I would be sure to have WeChat set up prior so you can use the chat translator and have your google translate app out ready. (N.B Make sure you are able to set up the account and get the WeChat validation/security text through your HOME sim/data roaming as opposed to attempting to set up your account on your E-sim which won't work).
Facilities
It is a hostel that provides what you need. The things that took my British head some time to get around was the shower situation and the bed; namely the shower as it was more typical of an advanced bidet than standard shower. However, it was kept exceptionally clean after my first day there and I did my part of keeping it clean by bleaching it down. The bed is quite sturdy, typical of Chinese beds, so I would recommend bringing a blanket or similar to lay on the mattress so you can get to sleep. There is an upstairs area where you can use the washing machine or wash your clothes by hand and an open area to hang dry your clothes. Make sure you have some cash ready to give to Chu to use the machine. There is a vending machine that you can buy snacks for using the your WeChat pay. There is a seating area at the top where you can sit down and eat, smoke and chat. Once you are used to the different products used (i.e remembering the slippers, using the shower etc.), it becomes second nature and a very comfortable stay (funny story: I was sitting on a desk chair outside my room and being use to the chairs in the UK being quite heavy, I swung myself around and ended up falling off the chair LOL!).
Cleanliness
Like I mentioned above, the hostel is kept exceptionally clean and I had no concerns around hygiene once I got used to the shower situation. The cleanliness is what I can say was a huge benefit to the hostel. Considering how large the place is and Chu is the sole host, it is kept evidently very clean and Chu will be sure to tell you to tidy up too lool. People in China are not a fan of strong smells/ fragranced things so you will not smell bleach or such products but after seeing a storage room, I can assure they are being used!
The photos in the other reviews capture it exactly so you will not be surprised when coming to the place.

What a perfect hostel! A few steps away from the bus station and at walking distance from Kangding main square and the monasteries
The hostel is clean, well organized, with a large communal space, a fridge and traditional stoves
The room (6 female dorm) is spacious, there is a window with mountains view, the bunk bed is large and equipped with light and international socket; there is even an electrical blanket for keeping you warm at night
The large outdoor terrace between reception and dorm building is so lovely and has a great view over the mountains and river
I really liked the rustic feel and thee extensive use of wood of the hostel

This was my first time staying at a hostel, and it was quite a pleasant surprise! The facilities and cleanliness were good, and the blankets didn't have any strange odors. The room I stayed in had a very faint smell. The front desk staff was also really friendly, and it offered good value for money 👍. I initially thought my roommates might be noisy, but everyone was surprisingly quiet and considerate of others' rest. I think there were even some Southeast Asian travelers in my room (´・_・`), though I couldn't tell if they were from Vietnam or Thailand based on their language. All in all, it's a good choice for those on a budget. Just make sure to bring your own towel, perhaps a disposable one.

This hostel is highly recommended! The environment is clean and tidy, with simple yet comfortable decor and a quiet, cozy atmosphere. Separate rooms for men and women ensure excellent privacy and safety, making my stay very peaceful. The staff are warm, attentive, and friendly, promptly helping to resolve any issues. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with soft bedding, and the facilities, including air conditioning, hot water, Wi-Fi, and bathroom amenities, are all readily available and easy to use. It's incredibly cost-effective, suitable for both travel and short-term stays. My overall experience was fantastic, and I would definitely choose this hostel again. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Very warmth hospitality, arrived early morning at TFU, and found this place to rest in early morning. The auntie super kind and nice. Such a lovely aunt. Thank you for accepting my early morning arrivals. And the place is so nice. Convenient, near subways, clean and quite. Very recommended ^^ They provide you a comfortable slipper to use at the place.
Near IFS, just take Exit E1, go straight until you reach the park, then turn left. Walk until you see a local market on the left—the hostel is there. No coffee in the room, but there's a kettle, so we bought drinks from outside. Room was serviced daily with new amenities, but it didn’t feel very clean. We checked out the rooftop but didn’t use it. Level 3 felt pointless—we only went there for check-in and check-out. It would be great if they offered some activities or at least a coffee spot there.
The staff is wonderful. I'm pretty confident that Desti can really well trained for their team. Laundry areas need more space to hang the clothes. The environment is calm n cozy. Keep it up.
The owner speaks English and is very hospitable and helpful. The room is clean and comfortable. However, you need to take the stairs to get to the hostel so if you have a big and heavy suitcase, you might need to consider it. The owner (and a very kind guest who happened to stay there) helped me though. It takes around 15 minutes to walk to the nearest subway station. They also have a big dog and a cute duck. It was a pleasant stay overall. Recommended.

We stayed in a private room for one night only. The room was okay, the bed was wide and comfortable, the bathroom was okay too. There was a little dust in the room. Good impression overall. The common space of the hostel is very nice, warm and charming. Plenty of games, tables, a terrace, vendor machines, bar... The hosts are very nice and friendly. The hostel is close to the subway and a lovely street with lots of street food. We recommend and would stay again.
Before arriving in Litang, I didn’t expect that there is such a lovely hostel located in the center of this small town. Also greeted with the host, he kindly recommended what to do, where to go and showing me the 30 year-old Tibetan style hostel building. Really appreciate his generosity during my short stay there. This hostel is also very friendly to international travelers like us, since there is sitting toilet(rare in China) and host also speaks English! I hopefully visit there again in the future.
the lonely planet didn't lie one bit when talking about Emma. she truly enriched our experience in Songpan tenfold. from giving us a tour of the town and telling us the history of it as we went, to taking us out to munigou valley, to letting us try cordyceps and play traditional instruments with her father (that her father made), to every recommendation she gave, to being our driver to the train station at the very end of our stay, she was nothing short of our guardian angel of Songpan. I couldn't recommend staying with Emma's guesthouse higher!
