Reminiscent of English pubs and Australian country pubs. Perfect for a solo traveller needing somewhere for a night to restock and recharge. Staff are can-do and will communicate everything you need to know without being invasive at all. The pub is busy downstairs and with good reason. The menu is diverse enough for most appetites. The common room absorbs sound and sports channels on. Sticks to basics and succeeds. Other guests clearly get it too as all shared areas are kept clean and safe without any need for posting rules everywhere. Definitely on my Melbourne list.

The room was big, the bed was clean, I was glad I didn't miss the trip, the scenery was great, and there was a small balcony, I enjoyed it very much. The hotel has many services, although I didn't try them one by one, but they are heartwarming enough

Check-in is through the app. The place is centrally located, walking distance to Flinders Street. Lots of cafes/restaurants nearby. I paid extra for a bottom bunk bed but got assigned to a top one though. Overall, good service and cleanliness was maintained.

First time living in a hostel and already have some expectations of what is it going to be like Since feedback is that the shower heater does not work well where it gets cold and switches to hot suddenly causing my body to get burnt I was told that I can arrive early and store my luggage first but I didn’t expect that what they mean by storing is leaving my bag on the open vide floor in the corner of the pub (definitely know that it won’t be kept safe since the employees themselves are busy running the pub) The room is very smelly Like smellier than what I expected

The guesthouse's entrance and exterior are really pretty, and the beds are absolutely beautiful and super cozy! They even have bed curtains and storage, which is incredibly useful! Overall, it's a very well-decorated guesthouse. However, the bathroom seems to have a few issues! The bathroom was a bit disappointing.

Melbourne City Backpackers is a top pick for solo budget travelers like me exploring Melbourne. Centrally located near Southern Cross Station and Queen Victoria Market, it's perfect for hopping on trams or the SkyBus from the airport, and just a short trip to Phillip Island penguins. Friendly staff shared insider tips on local cafes and sights, while the free breakfast kickstarted my days. The spacious dorms came with lockers (bring your own padlock), power outlets, and decent cleanliness—common areas stayed sociable without feeling chaotic. Kitchen facilities were well-equipped for self-catering on a student budget. Only minor downsides: street noise at night (earplugs helped) and no elevator, so pack light. Overall, unbeatable value at ~$30/night—highly recommend for backpackers wanting convenience and vibe! 9/10.

Great location just a five minute drive to Woolies. The room is very clean with plenty of supplies like plates, bowls, tablewares, cotton swabs... The owner is pretty kind as well. Affordable and quality accommodations.

Omg this was like a hotel. Seemingly old building from outside but was a very tidy, newly structured building inside with hotel settings, clean bathrooms, nice rooms and I had my Best 2 days here out of 5 hard ones in Melb. They have a rooftop area which I adored in the sun, at times so quiet no one there, a kitchen and bar downstairs and lovely staff. I shall return! Thank you

The staff at help desk and helpful, gave clear info. Checked in at 6pm no issue, great having the help desk be open 24/7. The entry/cafe/front desk area had a small smell of cigarettes. Bed was comfortable and clean, only carpet was a bit dirty and the room smelled on mixed scents, primarily body odour, mixed shared room so not hostels issue just individuals different smells, ventilation was ok but would not recommend a windowless room with the scents issue. Guests seemed of a young adult demographic: Lots of young, foreign, Door Dash/Uber Eats workers. Bathroom/toilet amenities were sufficient but shower stream was changing from warm to cold water, which would be terrible if it was in the winter, but only slightly uncomfortable in the warmer month of December. Good option for securing luggage you don’t want to keep in the shared rooms.

The public kitchen facilities are not perfect and some of them are damaged, which makes the food not very clean.
