We stayed overnight just before Christmas as we were attending the funeral of a close friend. Despite the circumstances we had a a great overnight stay, with a very comfortable room and a lovely breakfast the next morning. Joanna our host was very friendly and attentive making sure we had everything we needed and provided us with tips on the local places to eat out for dinner. We hope to return to Ambleside in 2026 under better circumstances and would have no hesitation in staying here again.

Rarely write reviews but really love this lovely hotel The room is spacious, comfortable and clean Breakfast is also delicious. Service is super intimate and thoughtful Always cost-effective, if you have the opportunity to really recommend to experience. Although you can get timely feedback at night

Guest house was lovely, but room I stayed in was small with separate toilet. If I went back would book a ensuite room. As other guests were using same toilet and shower which was slippery if someone else had used shower. Owners were lovely and helpful. Didn't have breakfast there but other guests staying there said it was lovely.£10 per person for traditional English breakfast or continental. Would definitely recommend it but stay in ensuite with your own toilet and shower

With this price range I think it’s a decent place to stay!! Only got to see the staff in the morning they were really friendly and nice. I think the down side is however we could only get in touch with the staff by calling them and didn’t get any response via WhatsApp/text. And in the email I received from them it’s stated the checkout time was 10:30 whereas on trip.com it was 10am so it was a bit confusing. But again with such a decent price I won’t complain it’s met my needs and expectation. We had a lovely stay.

Wow!! What an amazing hotel. We arrived in the middle of a power outage, to be met by polite friendly and professional staff, we were made aware of the situation and offered a seat by the fire with complimentary nibbles, we were kept up to date with the situation throughout until power was restored. Considering the disruption, the staff remained calm and all food was delivered promptly and was delicious. The rooms were very tastefully done, well equipped and spotless, beds were extremely comfy and the rooms were toasty warm on a night that got below freezing. Breakfast was really good and we were well looked after by all of the staff. We have to say it is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in and would 100% recommend The Melbreak to anyone. Well done everyone concerned
