Hotel Valkenburg by Mercure is a 4-star hotel built using natural materials, with a stylish exterior and modern interior creating a welcoming ambience. Our 78 rooms are spacious and contemporary, and we offer an extensive breakfast buffet at one of the finest restaurants in Valkenburg. Our hotel is the perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts, as the region hosts the AGR and the Shimano Experience Center is next door. We are also ideally placed for you to explore the Valkenburg Castle ruins and its catacombs.
"The service was excellent. The staff were very accommodating; since my husband had a meeting, they allowed me to check into the room earlier.
Regarding the amenities, the hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but you can order pizza if you like. However, there are two restaurants about 50 meters from the hotel, so that's perfectly fine. The breakfast was good, though unfortunately, for the jam, honey, and chocolate spread, they use containers, similar to other hotels we've recently stayed at, where what comes out for the jam is more like syrup than actual jam.
The room was surprisingly designed, with the toilet separate from the bathroom, but that's common in Mercure hotels. My husband also complained that the water temperature fluctuated while he was showering, though I didn't experience that."

GGuest UserThis is one of the nicer Backpackers I’ve stayed in. It has only one bunk in each pod so you’re really separate from everybody else. The location is three hours from Amsterdam although it is very very close to the train station I loved the free fruit and the outside areas. There was two nice garden areas. The only thing I didn’t appreciate or enjoy was I booked in so late at night and it just happened to be handover and the lady could not help me as she was busy counting her hotel and finishing her day so therefore I did not get my free welcome drink. I thought it was just the water on the bar when I asked if there was any food she said no and did not offer me any fruit which of course I realised it’s free so there was food. Another couple were trying to book in at the same time as me so I gave them the computer. I really wish that the woman behind the bar could have told me there was a second computer. I guess she was just having a bad day. I also had had a bad day although it’s not a competition, I had caught the wrong train from Amsterdam and had an hour and a half detour. All my own fault but I was absolutely shattered. I could not think straight when I got there and needed a little help to check In. Highly recommend doing the caves and fort at Saint Petersburg. Enjoy your day.

GGuest UserThere is a stick and iron in the room. Also a bottle of water for greeting would have been nice. The kits are too thick. There are no bathing clothes in the room, only for free loan and not in oversize. It was also very cold in the room. The restaurant is very good, the breakfast was also excellent.

GGuest UserPleasantly surprised with this hotel and the room. Very clean and smells wonderfully fresh. Spacious room, as is the bathroom! The location is also perfect, so it's highly recommended for a short stay/city trip in Maastricht :)

GGuest UserOur TV did not work. Batteries and technical service were/was not available because we checked in after 6 pm. Reported at check-out. Answer: thanks for reporting and sorry for that. However, no compensation or a cup of coffee for the inconvenience. Very disappointing. You book a room with facilities and then you want to use them. We did not make a fuss about it, it is not worth it, but it is a shame. Otherwise a great hotel!

AAnne LiekeBeautiful exterior, but the interior feels very dated. The whole place would benefit greatly from some investment. Economy rooms resemble dorms: creaky floors (charming at first, but disruptive at night with people using the shared toilets), sagging mattresses, a broken bedside light, only one chair, no decorations, and no ceiling light. I realize we booked an economy room, but this felt extremely basic. On the first night, a party went on until 1:30 am. Guests should be informed in advance, and events shouldn’t run so late if the property also functions as accommodation. It’s also a shame that tours of the abbey come at an extra fee; this could easily be included for guests. Overall, the place feels more focused on making money than investing in guest experience. Lots of potential, but currently disappointing.

Stairs to reception, no lift to reception - not good for disabled people - apparently the other entrance was locked but it has a platform for wheelchair accessibility to the reception/dining room and the lift to other levels. That would have been helpful instead of dragging my suitcase and backpack up about 10 steps to reception. Not good for disabled people with heart condition and brain injury and balance issues. There was no buzzer to call for assistance and couldn't leave suitcase on the street. They need to provide instructions to guests with disabilities to proceed to the other locked door and have a buzzer on that door.

LLeonie en VeraWe hebben drie heerlijke dagen gehad in dit charmante boutique hotel. Geen overbodige luxe, maar juist dat authentieke en knusse gevoel dat het zo gezellig maakt. De familiekamer was verrassend ruim — genoeg plek om even bij te komen na een dag in de stad. Het bed lag heerlijk, en de sfeer in de kamer voelde huiselijk en ontspannen.
We hebben geen gebruik gemaakt van het ontbijt, omdat we graag de stad in trokken om te genieten van de vele leuke koffietentjes en bakkerijen in Maastricht.
Er waren een paar kleine dingetjes die beter konden (zoals een ontbrekende afstandsbediening en een kluis die niet open wilde), en het inchecken gaat volledig digitaal zonder fysiek contact — even wennen, maar uiteindelijk heel handig geregeld.
Al met al een fijn verblijf, met een perfecte ligging om Maastricht te ontdekken. Wij hebben vooral genoten van de stad zelf en van het concert van **Bente** in de Muziekgieterij — wat een leuke ervaring!
Een plek waar we zeker nog eens zouden terugkomen voor een gezellig weekendje weg.
