Chengdu Transportation
By Air Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU): the primary gateway, located about 16 km (10 miles) southwest of downtown. Offers both international and domestic connections. To City Center from CTU: Take Metro Line 10 (30 minutes, ~¥4) or airport shuttles (40 minutes, ~¥12) to downtown. Taxis cost ¥50–80, depending on traffic. Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU): a newer airport located 50 km (31 miles) southeast of the city. Handles additional international and domestic flights. To City Center from TFU: Metro Line 18 (50 minutes, ¥8) connects to downtown, or use airport shuttles (1 hour, ¥20) or taxis (¥160–200). By Train Chengdu East Railway Station (Chengdu Dong) serves as the central hub for high-speed trains (G-series), connecting to cities such as Beijing (8–10 hours), Shanghai (11–13 hours), Chongqing (1.5 hours), and Xi’an (4–5 hours). Chengdu Railway Station (North Station) handles slower trains, while Chengdu South and West Stations serve regional routes. All major stations are connected to Chengdu’s metro system. By Bus Key bus stations include Xinnanmen Bus Station, Chengbei (North) Bus Station, Shiyangchang Bus Station, and Chadianzi Bus Station. Long-distance buses connect Chengdu to regional destinations like Leshan (2 hours) or Jiuzhaigou (8–12 hours). By Road Driving or taking private transport from nearby cities is possible via expressways like the G42 (to Chongqing) or G5 (to Xi’an). However, road travel is less recommended for international visitors due to complex driving regulations and language barriers.

Perfect for visiting the Panda Base, as pandas are highly active in mild weather. Spring: Temperatures range from 10–22°C (50–72°F), with occasional light rain. Cherry blossoms and peach flowers bloom, especially at the Longquan Peach Blossom Festival (March). Perfect for visiting the Giant Panda Base and Mount Qingcheng. Summer: Hot and humid, 24–33°C (75–91°F), with frequent rain. Fall: Mild and pleasant, 15–25°C (59–77°F), with clear skies. Ideal for outdoor attractions and exploration. The Golden Panda Art Festival (October) showcases local art and culture. Winter: Cool and foggy, 3–10°C (37–50°F), with rare snow. Fewer tourists make it great for budget travelers. 10-day trip across 2 cities - Part 5 "Chongqing" Here is the itinerary for "Chongqing". The next stop is Chongqing, so I booked the high-speed train ticket in the app in advance. It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get from Chengdu to Chongqing. ‼️I recommend you arrive at the high-speed train station early because Chongqing has East, West, and South stations. You really need to pay attention to this to avoid getting them mixed up. ▸ ▸ ▸ ♥ Baixiangju » ᴘ2-6 You can capture all the iconic Chongqing sights here, like the cable car 🚠, buildings, and the "building within a building" experience of life in the mountain city. Eating local noodles at a small shop inside a residential building is a unique experience. The best part is ‼️ the owner is so kind! They personally guided me on poses and angles for photos. It was just a bit hot. ♥ Shanshijie Coffee » ᴘ7-9 I stumbled into this coffee shop by accident. In 40-degree weather, you only want to stay where there's air conditioning. The selection of drinks and desserts is limited, and the prices are on the higher side. There isn't much indoor space or seating, but in Chongqing in July, if there's no AC, it would really be the death of me. ♥ Dingloujian Coffee » ᴘ10-12 There are tons of aesthetic coffee shops in "Baixiangju". This one is very spacious, and the terrace has its own exclusive photo spots, especially in P12. The drink and dessert selection is limited, but their non-alcoholic specialty drinks are generally safe bets and quite tasty. ♥ Xiahaoli & Longmenhao » ᴘ13-16 Xiahaoli is a century-old street located on the north side of the Dongshuimen Yangtze River Bridge and is an important part of the historic and cultural district. It perfectly blends the local vibe of the old mountain city with a modern, artistic style. I recommend arriving around 5:00 PM so you can leisurely browse the creative shops and stay to enjoy the blue hour and the dazzling night view. Longmenhao is located right next to the Dongshuimen Yangtze River Bridge. It is also an old street with blue bricks and black tiles built along the mountain, facing the modern skyscrapers of Jiefangbei and Chaotianmen on the opposite bank. The night view is especially charming. After being renovated with the "restoring the old as the old" approach, it now integrates creative shops, specialty cafes, and city memory museums, allowing tourists to fully enjoy and experience the culture of the mountain city. ♥ Taoyuan Hotpot » ᴘ17/18 It was worth the nearly 30-minute uphill climb and the endless stairs that left me breathless. Fortunately, the view was really on point. It wasn't just food that's just for show like I've seen online. The hotpot was just right for me and not overly spicy. There were plenty of food and drink options. However, Chongqing in July is so hot, both day and night, especially when eating piping hot hotpot while feeling the hot river breeze—it really makes you question your life choices. But if you're visiting in winter or spring, it's a great choice. The next post will continue to introduce other places in downtown Chongqing that are worth visiting.
