DuxingxiaOn my trip to Datong, I booked a stay at the Howard Johnson Jindi Plaza Datong, located right by the ancient city, through Trip.com. It's rated 5 stars online, and it truly lives up to the hype! As soon as I checked in, I was upgraded for free to a deluxe business suite. It was my first time seeing a suite with a dining table big enough to host over 10 friends and family. After one night, I switched back to my originally booked business king room.
The king room was also incredibly comfortable, measuring a spacious 62 square meters. Opening the curtains revealed views of Datong's streets. If you walk to the end of the corridor, you can even see a panoramic view of the ancient city of Datong.
What truly stands out is the fantastic Chinese restaurant at this 5-star hotel. I stayed in Datong for three days, and除了one lunch I had in Hunyuan Ancient City, all my other five lunches and dinners were enjoyed at the hotel's Chinese restaurant. Here, a bowl of Shanxi's specialty knife-cut noodles is only 6 RMB, and a bowl of cold noodles, even tastier than those in Hunyuan, is just 3 RMB. You can order half portions of shumai, and during the first dog days of summer, they even had dumplings. I tried the braised deer tendon with scallions, something I'd never had before, and it was superb, as were the husband and wife lung slices and jellyfish salad – perfect with drinks. Dining here is delicious and affordable. If you top up 200 RMB, you even get a complimentary plate of Shanxi's signature 'guoyourou' (fried pork in sauce). A huge shout-out also goes to the restaurant staff. They are warm, thoughtful, and genuinely care for guests, even advising against ordering too much, ensuring just the right amount!
In summary, I give a 5-star rating to both the hotel and the F&B department. The last photo is of the hotel's breakfast, which was also excellent. The hotel has two breakfast restaurants, so even with many guests, it never feels crowded!

Anonymous UserI stayed at the Kempinski for a business trip, and the overall experience exceeded my expectations. The hotel is centrally located with convenient transportation and a bustling commercial district nearby. The concierge proactively helped with my luggage, and the front desk service was professional and efficient, with no tedious waiting throughout. My room had excellent natural light, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offered a superb view. The bathroom amenities were high-quality, and the soundproofing was excellent, ensuring an undisturbed night's rest. Breakfast offered a comprehensive selection, from Western pastries to Chinese congee and noodles, and the freshly ground coffee was delicious. The Executive Lounge provided a quiet environment, perfect for meetings or relaxation, and the well-equipped gym was great for a workout during my business trip. The German hotel chain's attention to detail was exceptional, and it offered great value for money. I highly recommend it for business travelers.

Ctrip's target is five diamonds, except for the lobby and services, none of the other links meet this standard. Room facilities are old. But at this price, don't expect too good hardware. The breakfast was good, which is to be commended. There is no business district nearby, so it is not very convenient to eat.
Service: The service is rated five points, very thoughtful and enthusiastic.
Facilities: old.
Will not live again in the future.

The hot spring hotel has been awesome. The room is very big, super clean and bright enough in areas like the bathroom. It is warm enough even in winter due to the underfloor heating,, so I have to turn off the room air con heating.
The hotel front desk team is even more awesome. They are always ready to help with all kinds of queries and needs. When we were leaving, they even gave us a bottle of local vinegar as a gift.
The hot spring is not located inside the hotel like the Japanese onsen. It is a couple of hundred meters away, but the hotel provided an electric buggy to ferry you to and fro. The hot spring area itself has a changing room, where you can out on the bathrobe before you step out in the open and into the hot spring. So even in winter, it is still manageable and you should not catch a cold. Some regular hot spring users even put on their down feather jacket over the bathrobe, and that surely is more effective.
There are even security personnel at the hot spring to make sure there is help if you get into difficulties.
Breakfast is also good. The hotel also uses the buggy to fetch you to a posh looking restaurant in the hotel vicinity. Food is good, and not too expensive. There is also a small retail outlet next to the restaurant. The prices there are very reasonable.

Zhouwenrou2333I only chose Yunlong Grand Hotel when I came to Datong, and was upgraded to Wyndham, but the room seemed a bit smaller than what I originally booked. The decor and amenities were impeccable, but the water was truly yellow. Even after running the water in the bathtub for two days, it was still yellow. Also, the swimming pool and bath tickets are basically useless; there's no shallow pool for kids, only a deep one, and you have to buy a swimming ring. Since we were traveling, buying a swimming ring was inconvenient to carry, and there were none available for rent.

The hotel is located within the scenic area, and the shuttle service is very convenient. We even received complimentary tickets to Fanyinli upon check-in! The indoor temperature was perfect without needing the AC, and the breakfast offered a variety of choices – I highly recommend the knife-cut noodles! I hope they can replace the toilets in the family rooms with more powerful flushing ones.

MollyxiaoaiThe breakfast here is probably the best I've ever had! So many options and really hearty dishes, no wonder everyone who visits Shanxi needs a nap afterwards 💤. Service was good, though they weren't very flexible with upgrades this time. Also, the projection in the movie room wasn't working properly… The welcome fruit was just okay, didn't really fancy it. The first Starbucks coffee on the first day of my stay was a nice touch though – perfect for an early morning pick-me-up.

Guest UserThe rooms are quite new, and the staff are very enthusiastic. I'll definitely choose to stay here again when I visit Taiyuan!
📍 Location & Convenience
The hotel is located in the heart of Qinxian North Street, right next to Maoye Shopping Center, making dining and shopping incredibly convenient. It's also not far from the airport and high-speed rail station, so transportation is a breeze.
🏨 Facilities & Rooms
Opened in 2024, the facilities are brand new. The rooms are spacious, and the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows offer fantastic views, with the city skyline in full sight. The bedding is comfortable, and the water pressure in the bathroom is excellent.
👏 Service – The Real Highlight
The service was the biggest surprise of this trip, truly embodying the JW brand essence of ”where the heart feels at home, here it is”:
· Thoughtful Upgrades: Not only did they proactively upgrade our room type, but they also meticulously inquired about our preferences. They even prepared slippers and a goodnight card in advance for families with children, making us feel truly at home.
· Attentive to Every Need: Seeing guests with luggage, the concierge immediately jogged over to help; when I casually mentioned I had a sore throat, an air purifier was quickly delivered – this feeling of being ”seen” was very heartwarming.
· Professional and Efficient: The front desk manager was highly skilled and enthusiastically shared local travel tips and a food map. Even at check-out, they proactively helped carry our luggage to the parking lot.

Let me talk about the pros. The breakfast was quite plentiful and tasty, 68 yuan per person. Our child, being 15, paid an extra 40 yuan. We booked three rooms together. The rooms were decent for a five-star hotel, and the lobby was beautiful. Now for areas for improvement. Aside from the good security guard at the entrance, the service could be better. Since it's a hot spring hotel, the hot spring itself is important, but it was rather mediocre. Of the 12 pools, some were 58 degrees Celsius, some 48 degrees, and only a few were usable and small. Also, because so many people were crammed into a few pools, they became quite dirty. All three families stayed for an hour before leaving. There were too many access control points. For a hotel in such a remote area, I don't understand why there were so many access control points and card swiping systems; it was very inconvenient. I didn't intend to give a low score because the front desk gave us a complimentary breakfast, which was a concession.

Xiangkanliangbuyan520Although the hotel is quite old, it is well maintained and the service is intimate. Any difficulties are enthusiastic to help solve. The hotel's food is also very authentic, there is no need to run out at all. The first time I saw that the mutton pot was full of mutton, and two people couldn't finish it. I'm running horses, I'm at the starting point, and I'm definitely going to live next year's marathon.
