GGuest UserWe stayed here for our wedding night, and while parts of the property are well thought out, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations for the price and rating. Positives first: the hotel is beautiful and tastefully designed. The spa is a highlight—well kept and run by a warm, professional attendant. The saltwater pool is nicely maintained and a thoughtful touch. However, service overall lacked consistency and polish. A number of small missteps throughout our stay accumulated into an experience that didn’t meet 5-star standards. At the pool—during a heatwave—we couldn't get service for nearly 2 hours. No one was staffing the bar, though it was stocked and locked with a tick chain—odd, especially since there’s an honesty bar inside. I tried calling reception, bar, room service—no one picked up. It felt like I was filling in for missing staff. Eventually someone came and we could finally order drinks. At breakfast, I had a frustrating exchange. I asked for sliced bread or a knife to slice the rolls, and the server replied defensively, saying I should slice the bread at my table and return to toast it—but I only had a butter knife… Breakfast overall didn’t meet expectations. Ingredients were good, but offerings were limited. One morning, there were no eggs at all on the buffet. Hot items were available on request (for sustainability), but with just one staff member, service was slow and inaccurate. Waiting 15 min for coffee or wrong egg orders isn’t aligned with luxury standards. By contrast, breakfast at Solar de Vilar Seco—where we stayed just before—was luxurious and abundant, with premium cheeses, international options, and stunning variety. Chef Gilbert deserves praise. Our room was fine by 5-star basics but felt small and underwhelming for the price and the setting (a former royal manor). Again comparing with Solar de Vilar Seco: rooms there were bigger, airier, and restored with original 18th-century details, creating a far more luxurious feel. There were also some odd quirks. Guests have to ring a bell and explain themselves multiple times—even to re-enter from the garden or spa. I get the intent is security, but the execution felt intrusive and didn’t match the relaxed vibe expected in a place like this. The service tone, while not rude, felt more guarded than warm. Staff rarely smiled, and basic interactions—from front desk to breakfast to housekeeping—lacked the ease and attentiveness that define luxury hospitality. Service should anticipate needs, not react to them—and here it often felt reactive and flat. Finally, a personal note: we mentioned this was our wedding night on our booking, a detail many hotels mark with a small gesture. I’ve had handwritten notes, a treat, a spa perk, even upgrades—all of which make a guest feel seen. In this case, nothing. I mentioned it again at check-in—it was brushed off. This isn’t about freebies; it’s about feeling that the hotel values your special moment. That was completely missing.

GGuest UserThis is my first time writing a review because I need to find a place to vent how disappointed I am with the hotel. I did not have high expectations, after all it's Six Senses, not the ultra luxury and yet it still fell short. To be fair, the property is stunning especially the pool area but the room.....The room.....It's speechless. I booked the river view room which says 50sqm but it has no space for luggages and the closet is inside the bathroom, if you can call it a closet. What a genius design. The room amenities are like antique. Hair dryers , iron and iron board are probably from the day the hotel was built. The iron plate was dirty and left stains on my clothes. The handles of the bathroom door is rusty metal with razor sharp edges that cut my hand. The seemingly smart control panel is not smart at all, it does not respond to anything you press. I pressed Do Not Disturb but it does not show whether it's on or not, resulting in housekeeping coming into my room at 9am the next morning. You have to use it to understand what I mean. The restaurant environment is nice and romantic, but the service..... Having waited 10 mins to be seated is not am issue, waited one hour for the food to arrive is also not an issue, but the food came in cold after we waited for an hour! The experience was so bad that we decided to skip dinner the next day. Spa facilities close at 8:30pm which is rather early considering this is a getaway resort. Staff came rushing you to leave starting at 8:15pm. Pool was really nice. If you stay there, try to forget about the room and just stay at the pool. The room is like a 3-4 star homestay at best I travel a lot as you might see from my diamond plus status but trust me I am not a whiner. This is my first time writing a review because I can't help not writing it.....

TTorv1k📍Location: Absolutely breathtaking! The guest house is perched high on a hill with a fantastic panoramic view of the Douro Valley vineyards. It’s a local winery where you can take romantic walks directly among the vines. Access is best by car (free parking is available). While there’s no on-site restaurant, several towns with dining options are just a 5-10 minute drive away. 🛋️ Rooms: We stayed in one of the two separate cabins, which feature full floor-to-ceiling glass walls. The view of the vineyard directly from the bed is unforgettable! Though the room felt slightly smaller than in the photos, it was modern and cozy. The main building has a beautiful, authentic lobby, a swimming pool, and they are currently adding a sauna and jacuzzi. 🍛 Food: The breakfast is a highlight! It’s much more than a standard continental breakfast: everything is fresh and local, including delicious oranges, olive oil, and honey produced right on the farm. They even timed the cooking to our arrival to ensure everything was fresh. For the evening, you can order snacks until 6:00 PM. We also highly recommend the wine tasting in the lobby: it’s €20-25 for 4-5 wines (we loved the red, white, and rosé), and you can add a generous cold cut platter for an additional €25. 🛌🏻 Service: The staff is incredibly flexible and kind. Sylvia, who handled our check-in and the tasting, was professional and informative. Even the lady preparing breakfast (who spoke only Portuguese) was remarkably sweet and attentive. We also received some home made complimentary Port wine! You can also buy their premium products to take home: wines are around €12, olive oil is €6, and their honey is similarly well-priced. Truly one of our best stays ever with fantastic value for money!

GGuest UserAmazing location if you're looking to relax. You're surrounded by peace, quiet and amazing views of the Douro Valleys. The pool area is great in a warm and sunny day and we enjoyed walking around the property in between the vines and the apple trees (the girls found it incredible to taste fruit after picking it up themselves). Breakfast is decent (the coffee was particularly good) although I would encourage a broader offering (there were no lactose free choices, for instance). Overall, it was a very good experience and I would happily go back.

CCaGirlWe stayed 3 nights at this hotel and enjoyed our stay very much. The people at the reception were very nice and our room was clean and comfortable and had a view of the park. The hotel bar was really nice too, I had the best Irish Coffee! We didn't eat in the restaurant for dinner but we had our breakfast there every morning, they had a very nice selection of items. The hotel is in a great location in the city and Viseu is also a very nice city.

GGuest UserBeatiful house with nice comfortable rooms, a super nice living room for spending the evening . Good breakfast and a nice, clean pool. Big garden with grapes and olive trees, kiwi and qrapes on top of the parking lot. Enough parking space. Definitely worth a visit during your douro valley tour. Some nice restaurants to visit in the small towns nearby. Tasty wine from own production and very friendly owners

GGrace GraceThe hotel is beautiful, located in their own vineyard. You can also participate in their own wine tour and wine tasting. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant are of a high standard. Breakfast is included in the price and dinner is not expensive. Our group of 6 ordered the menu menu with wine pairing, and we were almost full. Two of us lived in a large wine barrel, which was fun but a bit small (especially after seeing other people ’s rooms contrasted), and there was a short walk to get back to the hotel ’s building, so if It is not recommended for children or elderly people.

GGuest UserIt was a pleasant experience. We loved the hotel; it's not new, but the facilities are good, the pool area is very pleasant, and the view is simply breathtaking. The staff is super friendly, helpful, and attentive. Breakfast was included, and it was quite good. We ended up having dinner both days during our stay, and it was a pleasant experience. It's worth checking out and returning.
