Nanzoin Temple in Fukuoka
Beautiful temple in the middle of nature.
There are several paths leading to different altars.
There's a train station nearby, but if you are driving, there is a big parking lot one street down - if the small parking lots in front of the temple are full.
it's a 30-minute drive from downtown Fukuoka.
It is possible to pay 500 yen and enter the Buddha statue. You also get to write a wish and give it for a monk's blessing. All instructions are in Japanese though.
Make sure to wear knee length shorts or pants. Tatoos should also be covered.
There's also a nice restaurant at the back of the souvenir shop at the bottom of the slope.

Nanzoin Temple is the same size as New York's Statue of Liberty, the reclining Buddha of Nanzoin Temple, in Sasaguri, Fukuoka, Japan. This area has recently become a popular place for tourists, as you can enjoy both traditional Japanese culture and breathe in the fresh air from the mountains here as well. If you walk around the statue, you will notice that there is a design on the sole of the Buddha's foot. The Bussoku, or Buddha's Foot, was the subject of prayer in early Indian Buddhism. This design carries the precious teachings and merciful heart of the Buddha. You can also walk around and see the other side of the Buddha too. Being able to worship the Buddha from any side, all the while appreciating the amazing size of the statue itself is incredible.

Nanzoin Temple in Fukuoka
Nanzoin Temple in Fukuoka is famous for the legend that a monk there won the lottery and built a large bronze Buddha statue. The journey from Hakata takes about half an hour by train. The path leading up to the temple is very beautiful and natural, open and comfortable, with plenty of spots for taking photos. If you visit the temple with no more than 8 people, there is no admission fee. The path up is quite steep, but it's okay. Once you reach the top, the view is absolutely stunning and well worth the climb. It is recommended to visit early in the morning when the air is cool and there are not many people.

This is the Nanzoin situated in Fukuoka prefecture, Kyushu region. It is a half an hour train ride from Hakata station to Kido-nanzoin mae station and it is covered by JR pass. The Buddha statue stands within the mountains and it looks stunning. It is only a short hike up and suitable for all ages. But be aware to not wear sleeveless shirts and trousers/skirts have to be below your knees. Unfortunately tattoos also have to be covered. The view there is beautiful and the air is really fresh.

Nanzoin Temple in Kyushu, Fukuoka: Very efficacious, a must-visit spot for those in the know!
The reclining Buddha at Nanzoin Temple in Fukuoka is the world's largest bronze reclining Buddha. This Nirvana statue, which is 41 meters long, 11 meters high, and weighs 300 tons, houses the Buddhist relics of Shakyamuni Buddha inside.
Take the JR from Hakata Station to 'Kido Nanzoin-mae Station', and you'll be there. The journey takes about 30 minutes and costs 380 yen.
On the way up the mountain, you can see various stone sculptures, including small animals and little Bodhisattvas. The local grandmothers even knit woolen hats for them, which are super cute!
Nanzoin Temple is surrounded by mountains, with dense bamboo forests growing on the mountains and a small stream flowing at the foot of the mountain, making it a great place to relax your mind.
You can buy a ticket to enter and visit the inside of the Buddha statue. After the visit, you will receive three feather shuttlecocks, and if you throw them into the grid, you can get a free gift.
By the way, it is said that the temple's abbot won over a hundred million yen in the lottery, which greatly affirmed the temple's efficacy. It is also known among the people as the 'Lying Win Temple'. The day after my visit, I won the sixth prize in the welfare lottery draw, hehe! Everyone should come and see, it's a very niche must-visit spot!
Address: 1035 Sasaguri, Sasaguri-machi, Kasuya District, Fukuoka City
Business hours: 9:30 to 16:00, Nirvana statue interior visit (500 yen)

Nature Stroll | Charming Sasaguri
We visited Nanzoin for the first time during the early fall in October. The season lasts roughly from mid September, through October and November, and into early December. Pleasant weather, cool but mild with magnificent and breathtaking view. So impressed by the beauty, the harmony of yellow, light green, orange and cardinal red of the maple and ginko trees. Particularly impressive is the foliage around Nanzoin, with a giant 41-meter bronze reclining in Buddha statue nestled in the mountains of Sasaguri. Suggest to visit during the morning. The weather was just perfect. Take time to stroll, from the train station crossing the melogy bridge and enjoy the tranquility and peacefulness of the temple, shrines and natural beauty. This charming city is definitely worth to visit and explore, you are sure to be awe-struck by its charm and good vibes.
Highly recommended. Excellent visit.
Note: There are few rules when visiting the Nanzoin, a sacred place of worship. Visitors are reminded to be quiet, not to eat or drink on the grounds and no selfie sticks. Entrance to the temple is free.
