Start your adventure early to beat the heat and crowds at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Walk the base of Uluru for those classic sunrise views, with the reddish hues shifting in the morning light—best photos are from the western side, especially at the Mala Walk lookout. Don’t just see Uluru from afar! Explore the cave paintings and waterholes dotted along the base. In the afternoon, head to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)—the Valley of the Winds hike stands out for its panoramic vistas and wild rock formations. The shade and elevation here make it feel less harsh, plus you’ll get jaw-dropping, “insta-worthy” shots from the second lookout.

Tips: The Olgas are not as flat as you’d expect—the trails go up and down, so sturdy shoes are a must! Bring plenty of water (minimum 1.5 liters per person), sunscreen, and a hat; there’s little shade. The park opens early, around 5:30 AM in peak months, and closes at sunset.
