#Milan Cathedral Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
In the heart of Milan, my journey through Duomo di Milano was a captivating blend of history, art, and breathtaking views. As I ascended the stairs to the terraces, the cityscape unfolded beneath me, a modern metropolis juxtaposed against the timeless beauty of the cathedral’s spires.
The sculptures adorning the exterior told tales of craftsmanship and dedication. Each intricately carved figure seemed to breathe life into the stone, whispering stories of the artisans who had left their mark over the centuries. It was a tangible connection to the past, a living testament to the city’s rich history.
Reaching the terraces, the panoramic view was nothing short of enchanting. Milan stretched out in all directions, a vibrant canvas of life and culture. The juxtaposition of ancient architecture against the backdrop of a modern cityscape created a visual symphony that left me in awe.
Inside the cathedral, the play of sunlight through stained glass bathed the space in a kaleidoscope of colors. The air was filled with a sense of reverence as I wandered through the vast interior, marveling at the intricate details of the chapels and the soaring arches above.
Duomo di Milano was not merely a structure; it was an immersive experience that transcended time. Each step carried me through centuries of history. imagine they spent over 6 centuries to hike it 😍🙀😻. Each glance revealed the artistry of those who had contributed to its creation. It was a day where the beauty of the view, the allure of the sculptures, and the richness of history converged, creating a memory etched in the tapestry of my travels.
I definitely recommend to buy a tickets together with roof visit, because it contains the most of that beauty, which I explained above! Enjoy it! :)

The Stunning Milan Cathedral (Duomo Di Milano)
#wecreate
The Milan cathedral or most widely known as the Duomo di Milano in Milan, Italy, is absolutely stunning and worth the time to visit. This cathedral is one of the largest in Milan and one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen. It shows great attention to details as it's architectural design is just pure genius and it takes centuries to complete building it. You can't help but stand in awe on this holy ground as I admire the fine arts and beauty in this place of worship. You can also climb up flights of stairs to the top of Duomo di milano and you can get an even upclose view to the statues on the sides of this cathedral, at the top. Be it day or night, the Milan cathedral is beautiful as it is and every angle of it looks incredible. I highly recommend everyone to come here.
A Tour inside the Milan cathedral
Getting There - access by train, bus, taxi
Attractions - historical building, fine architecture
Food & Restaurants - several fine dining restaurants and stalls
Shopping - luxury shopping
I bought a ticket to enter the Milan Duomo. There is a church and the underground station, you can discover the Ethnic architecture design of building a Duomo. And the ancient household pieces can be found out.
On the top of the Duomo, you can see the beautiful structure of the building completely made by the marbles.

Hello Milan: The Heart of Italian Fashion 👠🇮🇹
Milan is a city of fashion, style, and sophistication. Indulge in the glamorous boutiques, iconic fashion districts, and trendy cafes. Take in the beautiful architecture and the stunning views of the city. Experience the vibrant nightlife and let the vivid hues of the city captivate your senses. Step into the heart of Italian fashion and say hello to Milan.
Milan Cathedral is the largest Gothic building in the world and the second largest cathedral in the world.
As soon as you come out of the subway, you can see the cathedral. At first glance, you will feel that the pattern of the cathedral is extremely complicated, but upon closer inspection, there are many sculptures on it. Later, I learned that the Milan Cathedral is the building with the most sculptures in the world. At first, you may feel that these sculptures are really overwhelming, but after getting used to it, there is also a kind of beauty in the complexity.
Rooftop access pass highly recommended.
The focal point of the entire city, Duomo di Milano, is Italy’s largest church designed during the zenith of Gothic architecture. With more than 3,000 statues spread over the cathedral, its rooftop and baptistery; the Milan Duomo is a must-visit site on any trip to Milan.
Since the cathedral took over several hundred years to be built, there are a number of contrasting styles for you to see. With traces of Romanticism, Gothic, Gothic Revival, ‘Perpendicular with Flamboyant.
You can even see one of the nails from the Crucifixion of Christ placed in a dome! Other highlights in the Milan include the 225-rank pipe-organ, Saint Bartholomew Flayed statue, Archbishop Alberto da Intimiano’s sarcophagus and the ‘Medeghino’ monument by Leone Leoni.

The construction of Milan Cathedral began in 1386 and took five centuries to complete. Inside the vast interior, five great aisles stretch from the entrance to the altar. Enormous stone pillars dominate the nave. The walls and niches house a large amount of statuary.
The beautiful, colourful stained-glass windows depicting scenes from the Bible are visible, reflecting an ethereal light on the floor of the church.
It is now possible to descend the marble staircase to the Cathedral Treasure to see and appreciate the paleo-Christian and Romanesque objects.

Really beautiful cathedral with gothic style! If you like history and arts it’s a great place to visit! I went with my family and we had a really gods time together exploring the cathedral! We used the stairs and they were really easy to use so I don’t recommend buying the elevator pass if you don’t have any problem with some stairs! #tripblazers

II Duomo (Milan Cathedral)
The massive Cathedral of Santa Maria Nascente, which the Milanese call just "Il Duomo" is among the world's largest (it holds up to 40,000 people) and most magnificent churches, the ultimate example of the Flamboyant Gothic style. It was begun in the 14th century, but its façade was not completed until the early 1800s, under Napoleon.
The roof is topped by 135 delicately carved stone pinnacles and the exterior is decorated with 2,245 marble statues. The dim interior, in striking contrast to the brilliant and richly patterned exterior, makes a powerful impression with its 52 gigantic pillars. The stained-glass windows in the nave (mostly 15th-16th centuries) are the largest in the world; the earliest of them are in the south aisle.#tripblazers#urbanexplorer#awesomepic#milancathedral

Milan Cathedral - "Duomo"
If you go to Milan in North-Italy, better don't miss the Milan Cathedral. It's really huge, definitely the biggest religious building I ever visited... It's right in the center so you can't miss it. ⛪
The Duomo of Milan tells a story of history spanning over six centuries. Construction work on the Duomo of Milan began around 1386 and it was renovated several times.
🎟️ Entrance to the hall is only 3€, the rooftop access is about 20€, I took the first picture there and can recommend to visit the rooftop for the view!
⏰ 10am - 7pm, closed on Wednesdays!

One afternoon in Milan 🇮🇹
An essential to visit in Milan is the so called Duomo di Milano, you can also visit the inside and get to the top of it to see the views. So amazing!
Right next to the Duomo there is the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which consists of luxury shops and several restaurants. A good place to spend the afternoon.
If you travel to Italy another must is to try some pasta, we opt for having dinner in a restaurant near the center. Spaghetti bolognese and carbonara, super top and good prices there!

Gothic Style Cathedral
Milan Cathedral, called Duomo di Milano in Italian, is a vast Gothic-style cathedral, located in the heart of Milan. It is 515 ft (157 metres) long and 302 ft (92 m) wide. It can house up to 40.000 people. Il Duomo di Milano is one of the largest Catholic churches in the world.
The site where the Cathedral is currently situated was previously occupied by the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio. In 838 the Basilica di Santa Tecla was founded next to the first church, but in 1075 a fire devastated both buildings and a few centuries later, the Duomo was established in the same location.
The construction of Milan Cathedral began in 1386, which coincided with Gian Galeazzo Visconti coming into power. The purpose of this impressive construction was to modernize the area and to celebrate the expansion of the Visconti territory. The Cathedral took five centuries to complete.
Getting There - By Metro: Duomo, lines 1 and 3. By Tram: Torino (Duomo), lines 2, 3 and 14; Dogana (Duomo), line 24.

Duomo di Milano
Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) or Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica of the Nativity of Saint Mary is the cathedral church of Milan, Lombardy, Italy. Dedicated to the Nativity of St Mary (Santa Maria Nascente), it is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan, currently Archbishop Mario Delpini.
One of the most amazing places in Milan!

THE GRAND MARBLE PINNACLES
Walking on the Duomo terrace is a thrilling experience that allows me to observe many things in a new light. The opportunity to get up up and personal with the stunning carvings is truly unforgettable. It feels like I was strolling through a delicate marble forest as I roamed about, surrounded by pinnacles.
The golden Madonna (Madunina in Milanese dialect), the icon of Milan, towers over the spires and 3400 sculptures that adorn the Duomo.
The view from above of the enormous square - Piazza del Duomo – and the lovely geometric embellishments on the pavement is breathtaking.
At whatever time of day or night, the crowds in the Piazza resemble little ants walking around. The majority are tourists who stroll at a leisurely pace, pausing to snap photographs, lounging on the stairwells, or waiting for the pigeons to take flight.
The ability to go up to the roof of the Milano Duomo is, in my opinion, the nicest aspect of visiting it. Here, visitors can get up close to some of the cathedral's 135 spires and see how the church's signature pink and white Candoglia marble is being restored.
Visitors can also get a breathtaking view of Milan's cityscape from the roof of the Milan Duomo, which is a mix of historic towers and new buildings (notably the Unicredit building). On a clear day, the Alps can even be seen.

INTERIOR OF THE MASSIVE DUOMO
The Milan Cathedral, often known as the Duomo Milan (its Italian name), is one of the city's most famous landmarks. The church is the world's fourth largest and is a magnificent and commanding sight that will leave you speechless.
The Milan Cathedral's interior is magnificent as it’s in the outside. Grey massive columns, the chapel's remarkable space, and painted stained glass windows perform their work, compelling admiration.
Aside from looking up at the towering marbled pillars and massive stained glass windows, one should look down and gaze at the floor tiles. A bronze Meridian Line runs the length of the magnificent marble inlaid floor, with zodiac symbols positioned suitably throughout its length. It goes all the way up the left-hand wall.
Despite its massive size, the Milan Duomo's interior is surprisingly friendly, contrary to popular belief. The stunning, colorful stained-glass windows depicting biblical scenes are visible, throwing an ethereal light on the church's floor. The cathedral is still in use; it is also the seat of the Archdiocese of Milan, and religious services are held there on a regular basis.

BELLA DUOMO DI MILANO
The Duomo of Milan: visitors to the city will not be able to overlook this spectacular specimen of Gothic architecture, abounding in spires that have made it the city's icon.
The Duomo di Milano, or Milan Church, is a massive Gothic-style cathedral in the centre of Milan. It is 515 feet (157 meters) in length and 302 feet (92 meters) in width. It has a capacity of 40.000 people. Milan's Duomo is one of the world's largest Catholic cathedrals.
The Duomo di Milano is one of Milan's most important attractions and well worth a visit. Climbing to the top of the rooftop terrace also provides spectacular views of the city. The Treasure, on the other hand, is not as appealing as the rest of the Cathedral.
Keep in mind that even if it is really hot outside, you must dress in clothing that covers your shoulders and knees; otherwise, you will most likely be denied entry.

The Duomo of Milan tells a story of faith and art spanning over six centuries. Construction work on the Duomo of Milan probably began in 1386.
Work for the construction of Milan cathedral began in 1386 when the style of Gothic cathedrals had reached its peak. It was decided that the new church should be built in the area of the ancient basilicas of Santa Maria Maggiore and Santa Tecla, the remains of which, together with those of the Baptistery of San Giovanni alle Fonti, are still visible in the Archaeological Area.
