"What I enjoyed most about Buxton was its peaceful atmosphere. It felt like a place where you could slow down, relax, and appreciate the beauty around you. I loved strolling through the well-maintained gardens, sitting outside with a refreshing drink overlooking the park, and admiring the town’s impressive Victorian architecture. Staying in the Wedgwood Suite at the Palace Hotel & Spa made the trip even more memorable. We managed to secure it at an amazing price, making it feel like a real luxury experience without the luxury price tag. While the spa is a little dated and could do with some cosmetic updates, it was still enjoyable and a lovely place to unwind. I also enjoyed the fun touches around Buxton, like the giant outdoor chess set, which added character to the town. Overall, Buxton has a unique combination of history, elegance, green spaces, and tranquillity that makes it a wonderful destination for a relaxing getaway. It left me feeling refreshed and reminded me that sometimes the simplest escapes are the most rewarding."

"Stayed in this hotel as we are visiting the Chatsworth House the next day. Unfortunately we had a penalty charge for stopping our car at the front of the hotel for only 2 mins to off load luggage. It would be better if the hotel mention this before we check in."

The Hotel has a wonderful history being built in the Arts & Crafts style by the CHA walking charity in 1914 on the site of an 18th Century Farm House. The guesthouse/ hostel welcomed guests for almost 90 years before it was closed by the first foot and mouth epidemic in 2001, only to be thankfully redeveloped by the previous owners into the hotel that you see today. We recently discovered that the house also played hosts to the Sheffield and Manchester Ramblers, who were planning the famous Mass Trespass of Kinder Scout in 1930 which dramatically laid the foundations of the creation of the national right to roam and ultimately The Peak District National Park – Britain’s first. To uncover the reason for the names of our two hills that create this beautiful valley: Lose Hill and Win Hill, you have to go much further back in time to the Saxon period of the 650s AD when the Kings of Mercia and Wessex on Losehill and Northumbria on Winhill fought a titanic battle – Northumbria won and hence the name of Win Hill and Wessex and Mercia lost – giving us the name Lose Hill and the name of the hotel. As you can now see, the hotel is set amidst beautiful walking country with the enviable location based at the foot of Losehill at the start of the ridge walk leading to Mam Tor and ultimately the Edale Horseshoe. Whether it’s Losehill to Castleton, Winhill and Ladybower or a gentle stroll by the river we can help you with your walking plans. Many of the local villages are rich in history. Castleton, just 4 miles from the hotel, with its Norman Castle, is the only place in the country to mine the famous Blue John stone, which is mostly crafted into jewellery. Castleton is also the location of the Peak Park Visitor Centre with many shops, cafés and pubs. The famous ‘plague village’ of Eyam is only 20 minutes drive away. Beautiful Derwent Valley and the Ladybower Reservoir with the Derwent and Howden Dams are only 15 minutes drive away, (or a good walk over Winhill), where Barnes-Wallis first tested the ‘bouncing bomb’ of the Dambuster’s fame. Hathersage is famous for its Bronte Heritage, and Stanage Edge has been used for film locations. Glorious Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are both within a 30 minute drive, as are the lovely market town of Bakewell and the spa town Buxton, with its famous Opera House and Pavillion Gardens.

Nestled in the rolling Derbyshire countryside in the idyllic location between Chesterfield and Worksop you will find a quintessential country house hotel filled with character charm and luxury. Welcome to Van Dyk a beautifully historic 4 star hotel and Rosette Food Award winning fine dining establishment. Built during the early 1800s by Henry Bowden Van Dyk was originally known as Southgate House. It was a mansion for the elite in British society serving as a luxurious family home for the Victorian gentry. Oozing class style and sophistication it has always been a place you were eager to visit and stay. In 2020 the hotel was fully restored and tastefully refurbished to preserve its heritage. Sympathetic to its history we are retained period features and protected charming details of this stunning building re-creating the grace and elegance that once filled these rooms and harking back to a bygone era of classic traditional luxury. A stay at Van Dyk includes all the contemporary amenities you could possibly require coupled with the glamour and rural charm of a historic country house. A Classic British Hotel / CB. Stay inspired.

"We chose Wildes Inn as it is conveniently located just 4 minutes from Bolsover Hospital, where our mother was due to have full knee surgery. We wanted her to be well rested and comfortable, and the Inn truly delivered. The staff were very friendly, and we were greeted straight away by a young, polite gentleman who made check-in smooth and stress-free. The lobby smelled wonderful and had a spa-like, relaxing atmosphere. The team were also very thoughtful, knowing the reason for our stay, they even offered to arrange takeaway breakfast for us. We booked an accessible room for our mother, which was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was great too. Overall, we were very satisfied with the entire experience. Our mother was well rested and ready for her surgery. If we pass through again, I would love to try the spa treatments, they certainly look very appealing."

Best Western Plus Buxton Hotel Stayed here for one night during my Peak District trip. The hotel is very well located, right in the centre of Buxton and close to the Pavilion Gardens, bus stops, and walking routes. The room was clean, comfortable, and warm — perfect after a long day of hiking. Staff were polite and helpful, and the overall experience was smooth and hassle-free. A solid choice if you’re exploring Buxton and the Peak District using public transport.

We stayed for 1 night for a special occasion. On arrival we were told that the spa was closed for an event which was very disappointing as I booked this hotel because of the spa & had planned to use the pool & sauna. This should gave been communicated at the time of booking. The building and grounds were impressive but on arrival our featured superior room was freezing cold. The reception turned on the heating at our request but this should have been done hours before our arrival given that it was 8 degrees outside. We sat for an hour in the room with our coats on before asking for a portable heater due to the radiators being only lukewarm. The room never really got warm & when we came back from dinner at 9.15 the heating had been turned off again & we had to ask for it to be turned on again. The food in the restaurant was very good & the servers were lovely but unorganised. We planned to have a drink in the hotel bar but it was so cold that it was empty and not comfortable to stay. I heard kore than one staff member complain about the cold in the hotel. What could have been a very pleasant stay was spoiled by the cold. Unfortunately, we will not return.

An excellent short stay in this B&B situated above a tea room in the village of Bonsall. Check-in is a small window of 2 hours between 2 and 4 pm but it does state that you can organise late check-in if you are stuck. Best to avoid the area around the Heights of Abraham when traveling in at the weekend as it gets very busy. We were there just to check out the area for walking and it suited our needs perfectly. The owner greeted us and made sure we settled in and as a bonus, the tea room was still open to allow us to sample their delicious cakes before unpacking. We went to the Kings Head pub for dinner which is a 3-minute walk up the hill and I must say it was a good choice. Another place with great hospitality with a mix of locals and visitors but more importantly good honest grub. Breakfast was probably one of the best we have ever had at a B&B it was plentiful and there was no compromise on quality, perfect to fuel us for another day on the hills. Thank you for hosting us and giving us good value for money in an excellent location to explore the Peak District National Park.

A wonderful, quiet location with plenty of free parking and an extremely warm welcome,The hotel could do with a little tender care, as parts of it were disintegrating and in poor repair. The window frames, which are unfortunately rotting away, along with slipped, broken roof tiles due to lack of maintenance. We were a little disappointed that we could not order our tasty evening Indian meal from the on-site restaurant to eat in our room after a long day out and about, and instead had to eat in the poorly lit restaurant, so much so that I could not read the menu with the tiny writing and poor design colors. I would not stay again, as what was described as a standard double room on the second floor was in a converted half-eve loft with no view out of the roof windows. The ensuite was adequate, with a good shower; towels, soap and body wash were included, though only one pair of slippers. Breakfast is not included in the price of the room, which, in my opinion, was too expensive for what it is.

Invincible satisfaction, this is the most cost-effective hotel I have stayed in the UK, although it is very convenient to eat in the restaurant on the first floor near the manor. The front desk of the hotel is also warm and the dinner tastes good. There is also a RV base next to the hotel. If you get off from Sheffield and take 218 back to Darcy Manor and then transfer to 6.1 Bus for seven minutes, follow the navigation positioning positioning. Remember to continue to walk forward for a few minutes and cross a small bridge. Navigation is not accurate. The local bus is no different from the taxi. I originally took a taxi to the hotel and found that Uber 138 pounds was not cost-effective and it was OK to take the car directly. The scenery along the way is particularly beautiful, and it is also a good journey experience ~

Booked this hotel as we were attending women’s football at Derby Pride Park.  We used the NCP car park which was only. 5min walk.  All the staff were smart, well mannered and helpful.  The room was a good size and were surprised to have a full sized bath as well as a powerful shower.  Fantastic breakfast selection where all food was replenished as soon as it was getting low. The only negatives for us was the fact we found some rubbish near the bed along with evidence of dust, one of the bed sheets was torn and one of the bedside wall lamp units was hanging off the wall but still functional. Overall a really lovely hotel  and ideally situated for the football stadium as well as taking in the local sites/ shopping centre (straight over the road)
