Advantages: The room is very big. It is very new and clean. The room is spotlessly clean. The toiletries are complete, including body lotion, makeup remover gel, facial cleanser, toner and moisturizer set. The razor has four blades. The hotel front desk service is enthusiastic. They greet you when you enter and leave, and help you call a car to pick up and put down your luggage. The deluxe room has a balcony, and the balcony is very large. Although there is no scenery, it can exchange fresh air and is also very quiet. The room is well insulated, so you don’t need to turn on the air conditioner at night to avoid dryness. The minibar has free drinks and plenty of water every day. Opposite is the Fresco supermarket. There is a post office, laundry room (this one is closer) and convenience store on the right hand side of the door. There are restaurants, gas stations and laundry rooms on the left hand side. The hotel does not allow people under 12 years old to stay, so it is very quiet. The surrounding Okazaki Shrine, Komyoji Temple, Kyoto University, and **** are all within walking distance. Disadvantages: The place to put luggage is too small, basically it can’t be put in. My smallest luggage, rimowa26 inches, can’t fit in, not to mention the other two large luggages, and the room is big enough. Because once the luggage rack is put on, the sliding door will not be able to open the wardrobe, which is a design defect. I tried several types of breakfast that many people criticized. My family chose Japanese style, which he thought was ok, and the staple food was tamagoyaki. I chose American style, which is the most normal bacon, sausage and eggs. The taste is OK, and the fruit is very sweet (I think it is normal to choose this at least without stepping on thunder, and you can also eat full). The next day I added 1600 to change to Benedict. Benedict, which is praised by many people, I think it is very ordinary. The bottom is smoked salmon. If you like smoked salmon, you may think the breakfast is good, but I don’t like it. I can understand that the hotel is not large in size, so the breakfast cannot be too rich, and it is impossible to do self-service, otherwise the food will go bad if it is left for too long. But I have stayed in small and exquisite high-end hotels in other countries. In fact, it can be semi-self-service. Fruits, bread and drinks can be taken in the self-service area, and the staple food can be ordered. It is estimated that the hotel is unwilling to do so due to cost control. The most important thing is that there are only two choices of juice for breakfast, and there is no milk. You can only choose between coffee and black tea. Although the hotel stipulates that people under 12 are not allowed to stay, it is not appropriate for teenagers between 12 and 18 to drink coffee and black tea, right? At least there should be the option of milk. And when there are many guests dining during the morning rush hour, it took us a long time to wait for the waiter to come, which was not very comfortable. Summary: The breakfast is indeed not outstanding, but it is passable. The reason for this is not the breakfast itself, but the hotel's own positioning of this only restaurant. Because it is to be a French restaurant, the chef's idea must be the same. In fact, a hotel decorated as a Japanese garden should be a Japanese restaurant instead of a French restaurant. The Japanese restaurant downstairs in the hotel next door is doing well.

The hotel is located in a small alley next to the main road in Kyoto, which is very charming. The transportation is very convenient, just a 5-minute walk from Higashiyama Station. Shirakawa is outside the window, and this river is nice both day and night. It is very convenient to watch the Kyoto Comic Exhibition, just 5 minutes away from the venue. The hotel can store luggage on the day after check-out, which is very good. There are washing machines and dryers, coin-operated, as shown in the picture, which is very convenient. It is within a 10-20 minute walk from several surrounding attractions. The room is very large, as shown in the picture. It is very convenient to stay here when traveling near Higashiyama.

An old hotel, next to the Rabbit Shrine, and opposite a 24-hour supermarket. I didn't know it at first, so I looked for food everywhere. It's close to Eikan-do Nanzenji Temple, but there's basically nothing to eat after dinner time. The hotel room is larger than average, but the facilities are really old. I booked a smoking room, which didn't suffocate me, but the smoke was too strong... The noise of the air conditioner and the refrigerator when I was sleeping was too loud, and I couldn't sleep. There is a public bath, but there is only one pool, which is good for relaxing. Considering the facilities and location, I probably won't stay here again

I had high expectations for a ryokan hotel in Osaka and Kyoto, but the accommodations were Japanese-style rooms and were okay....but there were no ryokan facilities... I thought ryokans in Japan usually had facilities for the public to use outside....They said there was an outdoor hot spring on the 4th floor rooftop, but when I tried to make a reservation, there were only 3 private rooms. You can make a reservation for a private room every hour from 4 PM to 11 PM (1,000 yen per use), I made a reservation because it was a ryokan hotel, but...I was disappointed...There was just a bathtub and shower booth on the large outdoor terrace of the villa...I thought it was a ryokan, so I was shocked..ㅡ.ㅡ Just take a bath in the outdoor bath while looking at the night sky outside...And if you use a rental car, there is no parking lot inside the hotel, so you have to use the paid parking lot next to the hotel.

Overall, this hotel is average and not good value for money! The hotel is at the foot of Nanzenji Temple. It is more convenient to climb the mountain to see the temple in the morning. To go to other attractions or shopping, you need to walk a distance before taking the subway. It is understandable that the hotel facilities are old, but the poor quality of the bedding seriously affects the quality of sleep and also makes people worry about hygiene issues. Since the hotel has a restaurant, it does not provide food delivery service to the rooms, which undoubtedly reduces the experience for a Japanese-style hotel. The delivery service was relatively standardized and did not leave a deep impression. Poor sound insulation is a common phenomenon in Japanese-style hotels, so guests should try to be careful about what they say to avoid disturbing other people's rest. The best experience is the breakfast session. In the traditional Japanese restaurant of the hotel, the tofu banquet is a famous restaurant near Nanzenji Temple. It is recommended to wear the kimono provided by the hotel to show respect for the local culture. It is a pleasure to enjoy the beautiful Japanese garden scenery while dining. The hotel has a traditional public bath, but the environment is average. Overall, this Japanese hotel experience is average

I booked a twin room after arriving at the store, 3 people can not stay or can not be an extra bed. I can change to a 3-person room. Originally 1400 one night, now one more person has changed to 2600 one night. After the cancellation time, otherwise I rebooked the hotel. The bathroom in the room is very satisfied. Since it is a single room, why is the other bed very good? Strange and there's no bed on the ground floor.

Because we were going to Nanzenji Temple and Eikan-do, we chose to stay at FuFu. It is next to Wulin-an and Hyotei. You can walk to the above attractions. The environment is small but exquisite in Japanese style. The room comes with a private bath. It is worth the extra 4k per night. The check-in guy is from Kazakhstan and is fluent in Chinese, English and Japanese. He is very enthusiastic. We chose to deliver breakfast to the room. The front desk helped to call a taxi when checking out. Japanese courtesy farewell

Introduction to Kyoto

As the former imperial capital of Japan, Kyoto effortlessly blends the old with the new. This city in the Kansai region is renowned for its well-preserved temples, stunning gardens, traditional teahouses, and the historic geisha district of Gion.

You don't have to worry about accommodations when traveling to Kyoto. Here is the overview of hotels in Kyoto:

  • Budget Hotels: These hotels usually offer basic amenities and are ideal for budget travelers. The average cost for a budget hotel in Kyoto ranges from SGD 40 to SGD 80 per night.
  • Mid-range Hotels: These hotels offer more facilities and comfort compared to budget hotels. The average cost for a mid-range hotel in Kyoto ranges from SGD 80 to SGD 150 per night.
  • Luxury Hotels: These hotels provide upscale accommodations with top-notch facilities and services. The average cost for a luxury hotel in Kyoto ranges from SGD 150 to SGD 400 per night.

There are many well-known chain hotels in Kyoto. Westin is the most popular brand among tourists. New Miyako Hotel Kyoto is one of the most popular hotels in Kyoto. If you're still unsure, Trip.com recommends Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto.

Tips for Travelling to Kyoto

  • Language: While some people in Kyoto speak English, especially in tourist areas, it's helpful to learn a few basic Japanese phrases.
  • Currency: The currency in Japan is the Yen (JPY). Credit cards are accepted in many places, but it's always a good idea to have some cash on hand, especially for smaller shops and restaurants.
  • Etiquette: Japanese culture is steeped in tradition and has many etiquette rules. For example, it's considered rude to eat or drink while walking in public. Also, remember to remove your shoes when entering someone's home or certain traditional restaurants and temples.
  • Sightseeing: Kyoto is famous for its temples, shrines, and gardens. Some of the most popular include Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), Fushimi Inari Shrine, and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.
  • Weather: Kyoto has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are relatively cold with occasional snowfall. The best times to visit are spring (for cherry blossoms) and autumn (for fall foliage)

Popular Attractions in Kyoto

  • Fushimi Inari Taisha: This iconic Shinto shrine is famous for its thousands of vibrant orange torii gates that create a mesmerizing tunnel-like path up the sacred Mount Inari. It is a must-visit for first-time visitors to Kyoto, offering a unique and memorable experience.
  • Kinkaku-ji: One of Kyoto's most famous landmarks, the Golden Pavilion is a stunning Zen Buddhist temple covered in gold leaf. The temple is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a reflective pond, making it a picturesque spot for photography.
  • Kiyomizu-dera Temple: This historic Buddhist temple is one of Kyoto's most popular attractions, offering panoramic views of the city from its hillside location. The temple's main hall features a large wooden terrace supported by tall pillars, making it an architectural marvel.
  • Nijo Castle: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nijo Castle is a well-preserved example of Japanese feudal architecture. The castle features beautiful gardens, moats, and impressive palace buildings with intricate wood carvings and wall paintings.
  • Gion District: This historic geisha district is known for its traditional wooden machiya houses, teahouses, and narrow streets. Visitors can stroll through the charming streets, dine at local restaurants, and may even catch a glimpse of a geisha or maiko (apprentice geisha) on their way to an engagement.

What to Eat in Kyoto

Kyoto is famous for its traditional Japanese cuisine, known as Kyo-ryori, which includes a variety of unique and seasonal dishes. Here are some must-try foods and dishe:

  • Kaiseki Ryori: This is a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner that emphasizes seasonal ingredients, artful presentation, and balance of taste. It's a culinary experience that reflects the Japanese aesthetic.
  • Tofu Specialties: Kyoto is known for its high-quality tofu and yuba (tofu skin). You can try dishes like yudofu (hot tofu), which is often served in a light broth and enjoyed with various condiments.
  • Matcha: Kyoto is the heart of Japan's tea culture, and you can enjoy matcha (powdered green tea) in many forms, from traditional tea ceremonies to matcha-flavored sweets like ice cream, cakes, and mochi.
  • Kyoto Vegetables (Kyo-yasai): These are traditional vegetables that are specific to the Kyoto area. They are often used in local dishes and are known for their quality and flavor.
  • Sushi: While not unique to Kyoto, sushi is a must-try in Japan. Kyoto offers its own style, such as sabazushi (mackerel sushi) and other types of pressed sushi.
  • Ramen: Kyoto has its own style of ramen, typically a lighter soup than other regions. Look for Kyoto-style chicken broth ramen or the unique vegetarian shojin ramen.

Weather, Best Time to Visit, and What to Wear

Kyoto experiences four distinct seasons: humid summers, chilly winters, and mild springs and autumns. The city is particularly popular during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when cherry blossoms and autumn leaves transform the landscape.

Given the varied climate, clothing should be season appropriate. Comfortable shoes are essential for temple hopping.

SSallyThe room is super large, including tatami, Western-style bed, dining table and living room. The hotel is very new and close to Kyoto Station. It's just that the bathroom has a glass bath screen. If you want to go to the bathroom, you have to go through the bathroom first. It was a very comfortable stay here, the staff was polite, and I would choose this hotel again.

GGuest UserIt's a really good hotel. The facilities are very new and the service is very good. I suggest buying breakfast on the platform. There are both Japanese and Western food. It costs 3850 yen. English is basically barrier-free, and there is also a Chinese version of the check-in explanation document for you to see. The executive lounge seems to be available in all rooms. There are not many types, but there are ham and cheese, which is good for drinking. The hotel is relatively green (a common problem in Japanese hotels), but this one can make you feel comfortable and has everything you should have. The transportation is very close to the bus station, which is very convenient to go to Nijo Castle, Kamo River, and Yasaka Shrine. The subway is a little far, but it can also be reached in five minutes on foot, so it is also easy to go to Fushimi Inari Taisha. The entire hotel design is full of sincerity, and you can find many small surprises of the designer. For example, the missing gate 🤪 The room is still not big, but the box can definitely be opened, and a few photos of the lobby are put to make up for it. I will definitely stay there next time!

MMerissaTravelsCentrally Located with a Few Drawbacks Travel Lodge is located on a shopping street with plenty of places to eat nearby. It’s also within walking distance of Gion, making it a great base for exploring. The location offers easy access to both bus and metro lines, making transportation convenient, and it’s not a far walk to reach either option. They also provide luggage storage, which is helpful. However, be aware that rooms are only cleaned every 4th day, so if you’re staying fewer than four nights (like we did), you won’t have a clean room and you’ll need to grab supplies and exchange towels at the main desk. The hotel breakfast, served at a neighboring restaurant, was a bit of a letdown. It mainly consisted of bread and some oily sides, though the coffee and drink options were good. The room itself was typical for a Japanese hotel—compact, but clean, with a hot shower. Despite the small size, after a long day of walking, you’ll sleep fine! Just keep in mind that check-in is at 3 PM, and check-out is at 10 AM, so plan accordingly!

AAnonymous UserIt is not recommended for guests with more luggage or large boxes: First, because the homestay is located in the scenic area of two years and three years, tourists are like weaving during the day, and taxis can't get in at all. You need to drag your suitcase and walk a long uphill and downhill stone road and steps to find a place to live; Second, it is because it is difficult to call the car after checking out. You need to drag your suitcase through the woven stone street to the main road far away to take a taxi... Of course, for guests who have no luggage or less luggage, you may wish to experience the feeling of an old room for one night.
