I paid extra to have a room with nice view, but when I arrived I saw streaks of dirt on the window that spoiled the whole view. I called the concierge to ask for a room change or to clean the windows, but the concierge said that this dirt is outside of the window and all windows have it so they can’t help me with room change or clean it. Also when I went to the sauna, I was told that the sauna was under renovation and would not work for several days. Next time I will stay at another hotel.

Got it! Here’s the refined review:

My recent stay at Empire Hotel in Wan Chai was a wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff provided warm and attentive service, always available to help with questions or local recommendations.
The room was modern, clean, and very comfortable, with quality bedding that made for a restful sleep. I appreciated the thoughtful details, which made the stay even more pleasant, and the views from the higher floors were a nice bonus, giving a lovely glimpse into Wan Chai's vibrant atmosphere.
The location of Empire Hotel is ideal—it’s close to public transportation and within walking distance of a variety of restaurants, shops, and local attractions. Even though I didn’t opt for the breakfast buffet, there are plenty of great cafes and eateries nearby, so finding a meal was easy and enjoyable.
Overall, Empire Hotel in Wan Chai is a great choice for anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and excellent service in Hong Kong. Highly recommended!

Friendly stuff, quick check-in.
Room: smaller than I expected. The restroom door was a bit transparent and had no lock. We had all the necessary things like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and paste, safe box, towels, electric adapters, usb cable, tea and coffee, and ice bucket. Room cleaning is very good, very gentle, always refills clean water, and other things.
Breakfast has a big variety of choices. Standard europe - eggs, omelets, sausages, bacon and so on; fresh juices, coffee point with barista, chinese kitchen (noodles and so on), serials, fruits, pancakes and many many others.
I like this hotel.

convenient location and excellent and very polite staff attitude. Especially the last one makes a big big difference.
Be aware, you CAN'T open the windows in the room. Also, the internet connection is limited to 4 devices, meaning you need to ask at the reception to obtain an extra code to keep connected. A cumbersome policy.
The size of the room is really just just right. Very very tight for 2 people but well structured. On the negative side, noise insulation, practically, doesn't exist. If people in rooms around you take a shower, you can hear the running water. Imagine if they do that in the middle of the night. You simply wake up waiting for them to finish shower. Air-conditioning is also quite loud.

Room is comfortable but can be cleaner. Shower is moldy. Table and surfaces can be cleaner. Elevator is extremely slow which makes me not want to come back. Location is perfect and the staff and services are wonderful!

This hotel is part of the Empire chain, situated just beside another hotel from the same chain. It feels like a typical 4-5 star hotel, which is super. The bed came with soft and hard pillows, the bed was super comfortable, the toilet was big and clean. Honestly, no qualms about the room and physical aspects of the hotel.
The stay also came with a free afternoon tea which was a buffet, which is really nice, and also lounge access on the 30th floor (both of which are in the sister hotel next door).
What I found kind of annoying though was that despite the free amenities above, the hotel does not give any bottled water nor shaving kits or any amenities in the name of going green. I mean sure, I’m an advocate for going green, but surely everyone still needs to drink water, no? Maybe provide a reusable bottle and a water dispenser somewhere, that might be better than not providing any water at all. To their credit though, they do have a vending machine on the ground floor that serves drinks and amenities at a price.

A Cosy and Simple Stay with Great Amenities
I was pleasantly surprised by its cosy and simple ambiance. The rooms were clean and well-maintained, providing all the essential amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The location was easy to find, and the hotel offers a free shuttle service to several places, which made exploring the area a breeze.
However, there was one minor downside to my stay. My room was located right next to the lift, and the noise from the lift could be a bit disruptive. Additionally, the hotel has only two lifts, and they tend to be a tad slow, which can be inconvenient during peak times.
Overall, despite the lift issue, I had a pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness, convenience, and excellent shuttle service.

Outstanding
HHOONG CHOOGreat location as Royal Plaza hotel is accessible from shopping center to Mongkok East MRT station.
Great hotel service too as hotel arranged for immediate room change when the bathroom floor was wet with dirty water and dirt due to choked drainage.
Downside of the hotel is the check-out time at 11am is a bit early.
EEdiGThe hotel positions itself as a 4-star establishment, but it falls short of that mark. Here's a breakdown of my experience:
Location: The location is excellent, if you don't mind a steep uphill walk. However, the entire island is built on different levels, which isn't a negative but rather a positive – a daily workout! There's a bus stop right by the hotel, making it easy to reach the metro instead of walking up and down, straining your leg muscles. Next door is a botanical and zoological garden where you can take a stroll. By the way, entry is free. A 10-minute walk down the hill leads to the cable car ”tram” stop for a trip to Victoria Peak.
Check-in: Check-in was fast, but a USD 300 deposit is required, which isn't mentioned on either the trip.com website or the hotel's website. If you need an adapter for your electronic devices, ask for one right away – the receptionist won't offer it.
Room: The room is relatively clean, though I did find some hair in the kitchen and on the bedding. For Hong Kong, the room is spacious, but there's nowhere to store a suitcase. You can set the temperature on the air conditioner, but it doesn't work. It only blows cold air, making the room humid.
Kitchen: The kitchen is minimally equipped, but it's sufficient. However, upon check-in, they warn you that the stove can only be used for reheating food, not cooking, as the fire alarm system is very sensitive and might activate the siren due to hot steam. You must turn on the exhaust fan to full power and the air conditioner to avoid triggering the alarm. Why bother having a kitchen at all?
Bathroom: The same situation as with the kitchen – you need to close the door and turn on the air conditioner at full power while showering to avoid the fire alarm being triggered by steam from the bathroom. The shower hose started leaking on the second day of my stay. It was replaced with a new one, which also leaked. When the technician replaced the hose, did he check if the equipment was working properly? I doubt it.
Breakfast: Breakfast is only served from a menu, which is quite limited. It's delicious, but not diverse. Is this the service you'd expect from a 4-star hotel? The breakfast organization is chaotic – staff running around and clanging dishes. Two slow coffee machines and one toaster keep guests waiting in line. By the way, there are plastic mugs for tea and coffee. The only fruit options are two types of apples – red and green.
Service: The service is polite, but I'd say it's ”on demand.” You need to ask for shampoo, shower gel, and dishwashing liquid to be refilled. The housekeeping, for some reason, doesn't notice the need to replenish hygiene products in the bathroom and kitchen.
Environmentalism: As in all of Hong Kong, they no longer provide water in plastic bottles. That's good, but come up with an alternative so guests don't have to go to the store for water. In my opinion, this environmental concern is simply an opportunity to reduce service costs while maintaining high accommodation prices. Speaking of breakfast again, the jam and butter are provided in small plastic containers, just like on airplanes. Is this really about caring for the environment?
Conclusion: Overall, it's a good choice if you're not bothered by the minor service inconsistencies and if you don't have high expectations for a 4-star hotel. If you're visiting Hong Kong, I'd recommend Two MacDonell Road.
RRlmeSuper pretty hotel, comfortable bed and pillows. Shower was so great with high water pressure! The restaurants in the hotel are expensive tho but feel free to order deliveroo. They provide free shuttle to nearby station or airport which is great! Love this hotel and enjoyed my stay!
MMaricar BasilioHad an awesome stay. Despite being far from the city, they have a shuttle that goes to the mtr stations almost every 15 mins.
Staff are nice especially the lady assisting us during shuttle boarding. Breakfast buffet is worth it.
Has washer at the basement so you can wash your own clothes.
FFengjingwenThis is a one night booking for a friend but we had actually stayed at this hotel for two months.
Plus - as this is an older hotel rooms are much larger than typical hotels in HK, close to MTR (subway) stn and bus stations with buses that will take you to every corner of HK, even the Dingding Tram.
Minus - next door to a large funeral home complex, quiet streets particularly after dark, kind of creepy! Not many restaurants or even supermarkets within walking distances, even less after dark!
Staffs, a mixture of very pleasent young ladies at the front desk with some senior employees who may be more suited working at the funeral home next door! Particularly the few at the extended stay guest counter! never around when one needs to see them.
For those lite sleepers the AC is noisy, can also hear showers from other rooms all the time and many guests just leave their garbage outside their doors instead of walking a few more steps to throw them into the garbage bins at the service room.
Overall, short stays ok but we probably will go somewhere else for extended stays.
HHerveVery damp room. The wall above the bed was soaked. Seepage? It had soaked the pillows that were against the wall. I had to put them out to dry on the balcony (with 30° outside, it was fortunately quick). Anyway, it's not very good for your health.
Bathroom sink, unusable: wedged between a wall and a pillar, the sink was 20 cm (4 inches) wide, with a mirror at the bottom, 50 cm (20 inches) away. You could barely slide your head in to get closer, but not your hands. Try shaving!
Otherwise, very professional reception staff.
JJocampoLocation: Situated between Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, it's close to public transport, shopping, and dining options.
Staff and Service: Generally praised for being friendly and accommodating, with some guests noting early check-ins and attentive service.
Price: Viewed as affordable for Hong Kong, making it a good choice for budget travelers.
Room Conditions: Guests report inconsistent cleanliness, with issues such as stains, poorly managed housekeeping, and outdated decor in some rooms.
Facilities: Limited amenities (e.g., no toiletries provided in some cases), and issues like slow-draining showers have been noted.
Overall, the hotel offers value for its price and location, but its condition and services can vary. Ideal for those prioritizing cost over luxury.
JJaneth Penilla101percent very clean I like the room very simple but nice ..also the view very nice can see the view of city ❤️ but hope nextime have a personal kit for body hygiene 🪥🪥🪥🪥 but all is very nice 💯
GGuest Userrooms are clean and cozy. There are coolers with water. Good price . If you want to stay away from the city, it's a good choice The restaurant also have the beautiful view. You can take breakfast and enjoying of it
RRichelle SantiagoThe hotel is okay nearby the company meeting that we attended. It was my first trip overseas and I enjoyed it. I was excited and happy that I managed to travel overseas for the first time with my own hard earned money. It was possible with Abit help from our tenant's wife she gave small token of appreciation for my graduation. Did not expect to have this gift from someone I recently just met.
