South Point Hotel Casino-Spa

South Point Hotel Casino-Spa

South of The Strip Las Vegas
We moved to Alberta from Ontario late last year and just got around to planning a holiday. Vegas is only a 20 hour drive from where we live and we have done Ontario to Florida before which is a similar distance so our plans were set. We have been to LV 4 times previously and the last 3 of those visits we stayed at the South Point. Decided to book it again this time, ignored all the negative reviews on TA as most of them seem to have been posted by people with no previous history on TA so they can be tossed out the window!! Arrived late on a Saturday afternoon and the place was hopping! Got checked in very quickly and asked and was given a room up on the 23rd floor facing out towards the mountains and out over the pool area. Got a double queen room that was immaculate. Beds were comfy and the room was spotless. Bathroom was a decent size with the shower and toilet separated by a door from the bathroom sink etc. My only complaint about Vegas hotels is that the tv channel selection in the room is usually atrocious, probably because they don't want you in the room watching tv !! But there were enough decent channels to keep us happy at the end of the night. When we checked in they asked us about house keeping but we just called down on the morning we wanted the room tidied up etc. and it was done. No hassle and just a quick 20 second phone call. We used the pool area quite a few days and the pool side bar service was excellent. The girls working out there were kept busy but were always friendly and by the end of the week recognised us and always had a chat. The pool area was very clean and we never had to look hard for a sun bed to relax on. Plenty of clean towels always available no matter the time of day we were down there. The hotel has 11 restaurants I believe. We used Steak and Shake a couple of times (still good), Baja Miguels on the first night (love the Margaritas along with everything else about the place!) Ate at Primarily Prime Rib on the Thursday and this is still a great place to have a decent cut of meat. No need to go on about our meals. The food was always perfect and the service superb. In our travels north and south we saw lots of signs up in restaurants and coffee shops advising they were hiring and apologising for delays etc. but it seems that the South Point is not struggling on that front. Always staff around to help etc. The one change for the better at the hotel is the addition of the Starbucks at the front entrance. If my memory serves me it used to be a Seattles Best coffee shop but Starbucks is far far better. Plenty of staff working the store and never a long wait even on the busiest of mornings. Another great part of the hotel is the Cinemark Movie Theatre. We saw 3 movies in our week at the hotel and its always great that you can just take an elevator down from your room and just walk up to the theatre. The ****** was hit and miss for most of the week though on my last night I hit a handpay which was pretty ni

Residence Inn by Marriott Las Vegas Stadium Area

I've stayed here before, and had a good experience. There are a lot of positives. The hotel is generally clean, the staff is friendly and generally helpful, the room is well-appointed, there's plenty of parking. But, I will NEVER stay here again, or in any of the other hotels in this little cluster. First - I requested early check in well in advance, which I know is not guaranteed, but I also have platinum elite status, and thought they might accommodate me. Arrived at 9AM and did not get in to the room until 1:15 PM. It just seems like they might prioritize getting a room clean when the guest is physically at the hotel already. On a positive note, I did get upgraded. First night, fine, comfortable, everything as expected. Second night, I woke about 4AM to loud booming music. I called the front desk (had to use my cell phone, as the room phone didn't work) and was told they're aware of it, there's a club nearby, and they've reported it. So, since I was awake, I Googled reviews of this hotel and found complaints for the same thing dating back 10 years. Wish I had known, I never would have stayed here. So, I could not get back to sleep. Then I started hearing an intermittent beeping sound, which I reported to the front desk using the app. Smoke detector battery, probably. She offered to send someone up, but it was in my son's bedroom, and it wasn't waking him up, so I didn't want to disturb him with a stranger in his room in the middle of the night. I went to the front desk a little after 7 to sort it out. I was told there is no one on the property to deal with it, but they would put in a request - interesting, that in the middle of the night someone was supposedly available, but not first thing in the morning? Then, I came back to the room and examined the other two smoke detectors. They don't even have batteries! The little drawer where the battery goes is open and empty. That is definitely illegal, and unsafe for everyone in this hotel. Oh, I also inquired at the desk about laundry detergent, since the little hotel store didn't have any, and I forgot to bring mine from home. The hotel has laundry facilities for guests, that's one of the reasons I stay here. I was told they don't have any, they are waiting to get a delivery. So...you're telling me there's no available detergent in the hotel? How do they wash the sheets and towels every day? Someone who wanted to provide great service would have called housekeeping and gotten me what I needed. So, I did my laundry in the bathtub with shampoo. But, back to the smoke detector. How is it that there isn't a hotel policy to regularly replace smoke detector batteries, so guess never have to go through what I did? Seems pretty simple - and safe - and probably required legally. Super disappointed - and incredibly tired!

Hilton Grand Vacations Club Elara Center Strip Las Vegas

Some time ago we purchased a four night, five day ”update selling package” from The Elara from Hilton. I had to travel alone because my wife has been doctoring for what was believed to be a pinched nerve in her back. She was unable to walk without pain, and the doctors suggested it would be better if she didn't travel. I arrived in Vegas about 8:45 am, and got to the Elara at 9:15 am. Check in time is 4:00 pm, but luckily enough they had a One bedroom room open for me. Best check in experience we have ever had at that facility. I thought it was going to be a great time in Vegas. I had scheduled a time for a timeshare presentation at 10:30 am on Friday. Since I was alone, I went in on Thursday as asked if I could move it up to 8:30 am which they did. I was given a lanyard with a card on it, and was told there would be a group meeting at 8:30. I went to the meeting with about 20 other people. It lasted about 10 minutes, then salespeople went around and took the couples to a private meeting. I was the last one selected, and they asked me where my wife was. I told them of her health issues, and that she was unable to travel. I was told by the receptionist that I could not take the ”review meeting” since my wife was not with me. I told them of her health issues and after a few more minutes she came back and told me that it was illegal in the state of Nevada to allow me a solo meeting. Then the gal told me that she couldn't reach the sales manager, but he would call me soon. I said ”are you certain he will call me?” and she said oh yes, he always returns calls, and you will hear from him for certain before the end of the day. That never happened. In late afternoon I starting calling to find out what was going on. No one ever answered the phone. I called many times from Friday through Sunday and no one ever answered the phone or returned my call. They were not open Saturday or Sunday, I later found out. Starting another round of calls Monday, after I had already moved to a different, Embassy Suites Hotel also in Las Vegas. I bet I talked to 3 or 4 more people and finally I got to talk to a helpful person, name of Rose Marie. She told me that since I didn't listen to the timeshare presentation I had to pay $752.78 for my 4 night stay, less the $247.78 I had prepaid for the 4 day package. I told Rose Marie that I would not pay that price because if the sales manager would have called me back on Friday as I had been promised he would do, I would have been out of that room about 15 minutes after he called me, and moved to a more reasonable hotel. Rose Marie went back to her manager a few times, and I got the extra charge for the rental cut in half. $252.50 was the new amount that I had to pay. Better than double that price, but still 100% unreasonable based on what I had paid for the 4 day package. I thanked Rose Marie many times for doing a job that I was sorry she had to perform. She agreed that she knew that what I told h

I had a bad experience at the hotel I stayed in the night before, and I was so anxious to check in here as quickly as possible to erase the previous night's memory as quickly as possible. Check in doesn't start until 3, BUT if a room is ready, they will let you check in. I had something to do that say until late and was praying they'd let me in so I can unload all my stuff. Around noon, Valda as able to check me in as soon as a room was ready and I was extremely grateful. She also called me by name whenever she saw me. That was nice. The room was very nice, roomy, clean, and I love the kitchen. They have full size fridge, microwave, and hot surface (note: you have to start the timer on the wall to use the hot surface). There's PLENTY of shelves, drawers, closet space, etc. There is plenty of parking around the hotel, and they give you a tag to hang on your review mirror for the length of your stay. What I loved about this hotel was even on the weekends, it was very quiet. So if you're looking for that loud, crazy gaming hotel, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a comfy quiet sanctuary away from all that, this is it. They only gave me 2 large towels and if you want more you have to go downstairs and exchange them for new ones. But this is a great place that's close enough to the action, yet far enough to have some peace and quiet. I LOVED staying here and would love to again.

Suncoast Hotel and Casino

Suncoast Hotel and Casino

Summerlin-Northwest Las Vegas Las Vegas
(If you don't ever plan to use the pool or non-existent hot tub included in your resort fee, then this review is not for you). The grounds and Suncoast ****** and hotel itself is well kept, with friendly staff, and is very clean; however, a major draw in hot Vegas is a well kept pool with jacuzzi and relaxing vibes, as the crowd INSIDE the resort tends to skew more subdued and mellow. Unfortunately, this could not be further from the truth when it came to the ”resort pool.” There is NO jacuzzi/hot tub. and while it looks great in photos, of the many times I have stayed here, the pool is literally OVERRUN with unchecked kids, and BAD parents who let them run amok, literally RUNNING off paying guests who dare try to enjoy the pool and its ambience. I am writing this in my sealed hotel room, and can STILL hear the screaming 5 stories up, after having reached my limit with the incessant SCREAMING of young kids, that drown out the pool background music, ironically played by the hotel, for what reason, I have no idea, as nothing can be heard over the 'kids pool' that seems to serve as a free daycare with negligent chaperones and rude parents. who actually encourage their kids to be as loud as possible and take over the pool. I love kids but there is a time and place and for Suncoast to risk sacrificing the guest experience of actually adult gamblers and basically those paying Suncoast, which is the bread and butter of their business, to ”accommodate” inconsiderate, rude, entitled parents and their unruly kids (which DO NOT contribute to Suncoast from a biz point of view), is enough to make me think twice about staying here. Even the poor pool bartenders are overwhelmed at being forced to become makeshift babysitters. I wanted to stay and relax but I was discouraged to purchase drinks because I could not see myself staying in such a chaotic pool environment. I wish I could say this is a one time event, but this has happened NUMEROUS times and it really diminishes the experience for better quality guests that will pay into your property and continue to return. Please keep this in mind when booking here if you were looking forward to being able to even get into the pool (as the kids make it impossible to even enjoy your own little spot in the already small pool). There is no hot tub either, so please keep that in mind as I assumed ”resort” meant hot tub.

The Retreat on Charleston Peak

My wife and I stayed here for our 15th anniversary and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I am giving this place 5 stars because of the serenity, cleanliness and hospitality. If you are used to certain creature comforts or always being pampered, then this isn't the place for you. This is rustic and as such, you will sometimes be required to break a sweat to enjoy the serenity. Now for some of the heads up you will need to make your decision: There are no elevators, you will have to lug your suitcases up a couple flights of stairs to the top (3rd floor) room if you chose one. If you can't do stairs then get a first floor room. They do offer help with your bags, so all is not lost, just request this. The bar and the restaurant are not open all day. The restaurant sort of closes down at 7:30 (if you make it there before then you will be ok) and the bar starts closing up around 8pm. Again, if you happen to be there before then it will be ok. It's not like they will run you out. It states spa as one of the amenities, but it wasn't while we were there. No problem for us, but you may want to ask. What you do get: 1. Incredible views, it is almost alien how unique this place is. 2. Incredible walking trails 3. Incredible, beautiful drive up to a ski resort not far away. 4. Great restaurant in a beautiful room. 5. Our room had a small balcony which at least allowed us to view the stars at night and the sunrise in the morning. 6. You are only about 30 miles or so from Vegas, so you can still drive in and do a show if you want. Incredible place, maybe we will come back for our 30th!
