A group of middle-aged guys, in our 40s, reunited after thirty years. To relive those late-night dorm chats, we picked this hostel and booked a six-person room. It was really great! Seeing the bunk beds immediately brought back the memories. Not to mention they also had retro gaming consoles and a pool table. Absolutely fantastic, highly recommended for reunions!

This hostel is the best value for money I've ever stayed at. Firstly, since it was the off-season, it was incredibly cheap. Secondly, the location is fantastic – it's not far from the subway station, Fuzimiao, Laomendong, and Sanqiba Alley; all within walking distance. The lobby is also very grand, and there's even a computer and printer available. Outside the lobby, there's a huge balcony with lots of flowers and a small bar. The rooms themselves are decent too; the sheets and duvet covers are comfortable and very clean. There's central air conditioning and even a sink in the room. I chose Xiying for all four nights I spent in Nanjing.

This is my second time staying at Backpacker and it truly feels like coming home – so warm and welcoming! The environment is still fantastic, and from the common area, you can see half of Suzhou's old city and the Gate of the Orient in the distance. This time, I'm even more familiar with the route. There's a KFC and Domino's Pizza right outside, making dining incredibly convenient. To get here, just take Metro Line 2 to Shilu Station, exit from Exit 12, and walk about 100 meters to Backpacker. It's super easy to find!
Backpacker continues to provide a great environment, with clean blankets, bath towels, and even Nongfu Spring bottled water. The restrooms have disposable toilet seat covers, and the shower gel and shampoo are also excellent.

The bed was good and comfortable. Headroom of the bed is excellent. Location is excellent, close to eatery outlets and right at the centre of city. Only a small locker is available I was lucky enough to get a bed with slightly larger locker which can fit my backpack. But other locker are small, which can hardly fit a backpack. Only two bathrooms and two toilet available. It is indeed challenging when everyone is queueing. Also, washing machine is available, but no dryer is available. In overall, it is good place to stay.

I rarely find hostels like this; it was so comfortable and reassuring 😭 The hostel owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, making me feel almost embarrassed. She spoke so gently and thoughtfully, making me feel right at home. I chatted with her for a long time; she even lent me her umbrella when she mentioned it might rain, and offered me fruit from the table. She also recommended some good restaurants 😋. The room was spacious, incredibly clean and tidy, with a wonderful atmosphere. The cats were very friendly, and the location was great—there were breakfast stalls right outside, giving it a lively, local feel. It was a very comfortable stay, truly the best trip I've ever had. I'll definitely come back if I have the chance! I hope the hostel owner recognizes me then, hahaha~

The hotel has separate floors for men and women, and you need to use your key card to enter and exit, as well as use the elevators. The security is strict, making me feel very safe. The beds, sheets, and duvets in the room were clean and tidy, and I didn't need to make them myself, which made checking in a breeze. The shared washrooms, toilets, and showers were all very clean, and the overall environment far exceeded my expectations. The toilets offered both squat and Western-style options, with plenty of toilet paper. The Western-style toilets even had disposable seat covers and disinfectants, making them hygienic and reassuring to use. The showers were individual, self-contained cubicles with doors and a place to hang clothes, along with a damp-proof curtain, making them practical and moisture-resistant.
The amenities were very thoughtfully designed. The internet speed was sufficient for basic use. The laundry and dryer machines could be operated by scanning a QR code, which was convenient and hassle-free. The drying areas were clearly divided by gender, and the laundry and showering areas had their own dedicated corridors, requiring a key card for entry and exit. The sectional management was very well-organized. Most importantly, there was absolutely no noise!

First, a small issue: one of the showers didn't have a place to set the showerhead. However, overall it was still very good. Being right downstairs from the police station made me feel very safe. The ladies at the front desk were wonderful, and the overall environment was also great. The lockers have locks, and you can even fit a suitcase inside. The beds were clean and came with a foldable small table. The common lounge area was well-designed, with many different seating options. Facilities were complete, including a water dispenser and microwave. Overall, I'm satisfied!
Cool, busy youth hostel. Bed was comfy and light/plug by bed. No locker in the room, just small ones by reception. Horrible wifi, especially in the evening.
Spacious common area with lots of plugs. Feels like a college dormitory, very social atmosphere, even a few foreigners staying there. Free hot water and a fridge.
Great endless hot water in the shower and clean (sit-down) toilets. No toilet paper or bidet however, so bring your own (why??).
Located right by a metro stop. There's a fantastic aldi-style grocery store in the attached mall. Nearby streets also have local food options.
It's confusing to find: enter via the west side of the building, at Qingfeng Hotel, then take elevator to 6th floor.

Pros: The location is excellent, with many attractions within walking distance and very close to the subway station.
There's ample common space, well-equipped facilities, and a comfortable ambiance with good lighting.
The bunk beds are thoughtfully designed, even featuring heated towel racks and reading lights. The bed design is great, and the mattress is very comfortable.
The front desk service is also top-notch; they'll guide guests through the hostel's facilities and meticulously provide detailed travel tips.
Cons: There's room for improvement in the cleanliness details of the common areas.
There's a slight wooden smell from the bunk beds.
One can always be greedy and want it all, you know, but these minor imperfections don't diminish my love for Zaiyu. I just feel that such a well-equipped place deserves even better care and maintenance from everyone.

Very nice hostel. The room was good and so quiet. The girl at the reception was so nice and speak english. I got the room for me alone, it was only 3 chineses girls doing pictures who slept in the hostel. The location is so great as it close to the main touristic place. The toilet was very clean. Nothing bad to declare.

Very Good
Budget friendly hostel, friendly staffs, walkable distance from the metro station
Felt really safe given that it is a female only hostel + people there are really friendly! Facilities were good as well, felt really at home there:) close to attractions too, would revisit!
Quite a good place to stay the first few days, the lady there gave me a banana and free breakfast on the first day as I usually leave the place early. However, the last night there was absolutely horrendous. I am not sure who was smoking in the public space and there was a nauseating strong smell of smoke all over the place, if you leave your room door open the smell will be in your room too. I had to quickly go to the toilet if not the smell would be on my clothes. If it was not late at night, I would have found myself another place to stay. I think there can be stricter control on no smoking in an enclosed space like hostel, this person is extremely inconsiderate. He/she can go outside to smoke instead. The female toilet sink was also so rusty and they should fix it. A good thing is they provide shampoo and body wash. To me it is just a place to wash up and sleep, is acceptable for budget solo travellers but I will not stay here again due to the bad experience with the smoke.

The room is clean, the boss is nice and welcoming. All necessary facilities are available, travel is convenient, and there is a subway entrance across the street.
My experience has been incredible because the hostel I’m staying at feels like home. The staff is incredibly friendly, warm, and always willing to help. Everything is extremely well-organized, and the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. The location couldn’t be better—it’s just a short walk to both the subway and bus stations, making it super convenient to get around the city. On top of all that, the prices are very affordable, but the quality of service is top-notch. For such a reasonable price, they really go above and beyond to ensure guests have a great experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay—it’s truly a hidden gem

Outstanding
This is a very clean hostel with excellent location. If you are travelling to Suzhou and looking for cheap accommodation then please stay here. You will never regret my recommendation. I had stayed in this brand hostel in quite many places and they always live up to expectations. Trust me I had stayed in some very bad hostel.
英文好评 I only stayed one night, but this all-girl hostel already feels like a second home. The key-card access and 24 h reception made me feel safe the moment I stepped in. Beds are wide, with thick curtains, individual lights, plugs and even a tiny shelf for glasses—no awkward climbing or flashlight reading. Bathrooms deserve a trophy: rain-shower heads, constant hot water and a heavenly grapefruit shampoo provided free. Every corner smells like fresh linen because staff launder nonstop. The communal kitchen is better stocked than my apartment back home; we made midnight banana pancakes and left with six new Instagram mutuals. Checking out felt like leaving summer camp; I hugged the receptionist and promised to send postcards. If you’re a solo female traveler, bookmark this place, period.
