Holland America Line offers excellent food, a great itinerary including South America and Antarctica, and attentive service. Each room is equipped with an umbrella and a tote bag. The ferry service is smooth, with passengers boarding and disembarking in the order assigned by their assigned numbers.

The service was excellent, with room cleaning twice daily. Boarding and disembarking were well-organized. Meals were primarily Western cuisine, with options for a buffet or à la carte dining. The buffet was open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The in-room TV entertainment system had several news channels and movies. Overall, I was satisfied.

My 10-day, 9-night Caribbean cruise on the Queen Elizabeth has come to an end, but I still feel like it's not enough. The service and food were superb, the accommodations were excellent and comfortable, the activities were plentiful, and the scenery of the countries we visited each day was stunning. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm so happy! 🥳

There was only one problem: the house wasn't cleaned the next day, supposedly because someone had activated the "Do Not Disturb" switch. Actually, anyone could operate the switch from outside the door, but the consequences would be unpleasant; this is a design flaw in the cruise ship's system. Our group of four was the only ones with an extra 150 minutes of free Wi-Fi per cabin, probably a discount we received when we registered with NCL for our Caribbean cruise earlier this year. Special praise to our Ctrip tour leader, Wang, for his excellent work!

Reviews: Sun Princess

Guest user2026-08-09

Overall, my 7-night experience on the Sun Princess was worthwhile. This trip was for our family of three, including our almost 4-year-old. We boarded in Athens and disembarked in Barcelona. The Sun Princess is a relatively new ship, and my first impression was that it was large, beautiful, and modern. The public areas were well-designed, especially The Dome, the atrium, and the top deck. On a nice day, it's very pleasant to look at the sea and enjoy the breeze. We stayed in a balcony cabin, which was spacious enough for two adults and one child, and the balcony was very practical. The room was cleaned daily, and the staff were generally very friendly. They readily provided any needed blankets or bathrobes. The bedding and room comfort were also good. There were many dining options. The Eatery buffet was the most convenient, especially with a child, as it easily accommodated breakfast and lunch. The main restaurant had a better ambiance and a more formal feel, and the menu changed daily. However, the taste was generally mixed – some dishes were delicious, while others were just average. Don't expect a five-star hotel restaurant; you'll likely find it quite pleasant. The complimentary food on board is more than enough; unless you're specifically looking for something special, there's no need to spend a lot of extra money. The entertainment facilities are a major highlight of this ship. The Dome is a great place to swim and relax during the day, and transforms into a performance venue at night; with theaters, live music, and various activities, there's something to do almost every day. There's also a children's activity area, so families won't be bored. However, it's advisable to arrive early for some popular shows, as seats can get quite crowded. The biggest advantage of this cruise is the "sleep and change cities" experience. Traveling through Santorini, Corfu, and Messina, you don't have to constantly pack and change hotels, which is really friendly to families with children. Disembark during the day to explore, return for dinner, shower, and sleep in the evening, and then head to a new place the next day – this kind of travel is quite relaxing. Of course, there are some drawbacks. The ship is really huge, and you might feel a little disoriented for the first couple of days, especially since different elevators lead to different areas, so it takes some getting used to. The buffet restaurant, elevators, and disembarkation areas can be quite crowded when it's busy. While the internet on the cruise ship is usable, its stability is definitely not comparable to that on land. Additionally, first-time cruise passengers should clarify the disembarkation, passport collection, and transfer procedures beforehand to avoid confusion. Overall, if you're traveling with children, elderly relatives, or don't want to drag your luggage between hotels every day, the Sun Princess is a very comfortable travel option. It's not the kind of cruise where every meal or activity is amazing, but it excels in its newness, comprehensive facilities, excellent itineraries, and overall relaxed experience.

We've been on a cruise twice already, and this was the longest one yet. The 18-day experience of crossing the North Pacific and the Tropic of Cancer was unforgettable. The service on board was excellent, and the food selection was plentiful. It was great value for money. Talking with some Chinese people in North America, we learned that the price we paid for a balcony cabin on Ctrip only got them ocean view cabins. This proves that with more Chinese tourists, the market has opened up. Crucially, we were able to adjust to the time difference right on the ship after returning from North America.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must carry a passport with an expiration date that meets the destination's requirements (usually valid for at least 6 months after the cruise ends; please refer to the actual boarding information), your cruise boarding pass (e-ticket or printed copy), and any visas required by all countries/regions on your itinerary. Depending on your nationality, other identification documents (such as a residence card or national ID card) may also be required. Please confirm the final requirements with the relevant embassies or consulates and the cruise line before departure.
Modern large cruise ships are equipped with advanced stabilizers and are routed to avoid rough seas, meaning most passengers never experience noticeable seasickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider booking a cabin on the mid-to-lower decks where movement is minimal. Other helpful tips include packing motion sickness medication, wearing anti-nausea wristbands, and getting fresh air on open decks. Note: Medication availability at the onboard medical center varies, so please check with your specific cruise line.
The vast majority of cruises automatically charge a fixed service fee to your daily cruise card account. For specific rates and collection methods, please refer to the information published by the cruise line after boarding. This fee typically covers basic gratuities for room service, dining staff, and more. Unless you wish to tip extra for exceptional service, additional cash tips are not required. We recommend consulting the cruise line's official guidelines when booking or after boarding.
Most international cruise lines use the US Dollar as their onboard currency. Upon boarding, you will link a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) to your cruise card. The ship operates on a "cashless" system, meaning all onboard purchases (dining, drinks, shopping, service fees) are charged directly to your account and settled at the end of the trip. While you don't need large amounts of cash on board, we recommend bringing some small bills (USD or local currency) for minor expenses and tips at ports of call.
Usually, within an hour after leaving port, your phone will connect to a maritime roaming network, which carries extremely high call and data roaming charges (often exceeding US$ 5/minute). We strongly advise putting your phone in Airplane Mode and relying solely on the ship's Wi-Fi. Most ships offer paid Wi-Fi packages. Purchasing a voyage-long package is generally much more cost-effective than paying by the day. Some luxury cruise lines include basic Wi-Fi in your fare.
Every international cruise ship is equipped with a medical center staffed by at least one internationally certified doctor and nurse. They are fully capable of treating common illnesses (colds, gastroenteritis) and minor injuries. Please note: Onboard medical care is quite expensive, and the pharmacy has limited stock. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with cruise medical coverage and packing an ample supply of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you regularly use.
After boarding, you must attend a mandatory safety drill (usually required to be completed within 24 hours). During the drill, you will hear the ship's dedicated alarm signal. Please immediately put on your life jacket (located in your cabin closet) and follow the evacuation route map on the back of your door to your designated assembly station. Please keep in mind: Do not use the elevators, follow the crew's instructions, and stay calm. Even if you have been on multiple cruises, you must participate in the drill on every new voyage. Please refer to the ship's on-site broadcasts and guidance for the specific signal and assembly location.
The night before disembarkation, affix luggage tags to all checked bags as instructed by the cruise operator and leave them at the marked zone outside your cabin. Do not pack items required for the next day such as daily wear, official documents and valuables into checked luggage. Retain your passport, room key and hand luggage with yourself. On disembark day, exit your cabin by the stated timing and proceed ashore in allocated groups per announcements. Avoid remaining inside the cabin. Inspect every drawer, closet and cabin safe thoroughly. Exact timings and baggage rules follow the cruise line’s Disembarkation Guide.

The m/s Paul Gauguin has completed its multi-million-dollar refurbishment

The m/s Paul Gauguin has completed its multi-million-dollar refurbishment

Paul Gauguin Cruises, the French Polynesia destination expert and winner of Condé Nast Traveler's 2024 Readers' Choice Award for "Best Small Cruise Ship," announced that the 330-passenger m/s Paul Gauguin has recently completed a seven-week refurbishment in Singapore. This comprehensive multi-million-dollar renovation features refreshed spatial designs, upgraded guest facilities, and sustainable technology enhancements to continuously elevate passengers' "seamless and carefree" cruise experience. Key highlights of the refurbishment include a modern makeover for the popular Le Grill restaurant, a redesigned pool deck with shaded cabana seating areas, four new connecting staterooms, updated soft furnishings throughout the ship, and sustainable technology upgrades. The redesign was led by globally renowned transportation design firm Stirling Design International, whose innovative approach perfectly aligns with Paul Gauguin Cruises' artistic ambiance and authentic exploration ethos. Interwoven latticework, canvas elements, and warm wood finishes harmonize beautifully with breathtaking tropical landscapes, showcasing a modern aesthetic that coexists with nature. Refurbishment highlights of m/s Paul Gauguin: Connecting Staterooms: Four new connecting staterooms have been added on Deck 7 to meet the growing demand for multigenerational (family) travel, complementing the highly successful "Moana Explorer Program" for children aged 6 to 15—a program developed in partnership with Te mana o te moana, the South Pacific's premier marine education and conservation foundation. Le Grill Restaurant Makeover: The open-air restaurant by the pool features a stylish, contemporary design with white wooden screens, ceramic tiles, soft oak furniture, and chic lighting, creating an elegant dining atmosphere for guests to enjoy the ship's renowned culinary offerings. Pool Deck Transformation: The pool deck now boasts new white canopies providing shade for cabana-style seating areas, while the pool's exterior is adorned with new mosaic tiles. Spacious white loungers surround the space, offering guests a perfect spot for relaxation. Sustainable Technology: The ship now features advanced heat recovery systems, high-efficiency chillers, and optimized electric motors to significantly reduce energy consumption. A new seawater treatment system produces fresh water onboard, while the Nordaq filtration system creates drinking water from seawater, helping eliminate plastic bottles and minimize single-use plastics. Waste management improvements include glass crushers and cardboard compactors for efficient recycling. Visual Upgrades: Paying homage to parent company PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP, the ship's funnel now displays PONANT's iconic "Three Sails" logo, crafted from polished steel with LED backlighting for striking nighttime visibility. Additionally, Paul Gauguin Cruises' "P-shaped emblem" is prominently positioned at the bow of Deck 8, while the sleek white hull incorporates modern gray accents. These designs reflect the shared values of the group's brands, embodying a commitment to authentic exploration and maritime spirit. The m/s Paul Gauguin returned to French Polynesia in May for year-round operations, continuing to offer its award-winning all-inclusive luxury cruises with 7- to 14-night island itineraries to the Society Islands, Tuamotu Archipelago, Cook Islands, and Marquesas Islands.
