We were greeted with warm hospitality by the owner Angela when we arrived to check into Franz Josef Oasis.
The executive king suite room was clean, cosy and spacious. We enjoyed sitting on the sofas with warm blankets place for our comfort near the fireplace.
The location of this place is also good as it 5 minutes drive to the town where we had a delicious dinner at Blue Ice Restaurant and Bar which was recommended to us by Angela.
The service is excellent and I will definitely recommend this place to those who are travelling to Franz Josef !

We arrived around 9pm ish and the property was quite dark. The reception desk had a note stick on the door indicating our room assignment. We had booked 2 rooms, but unfortunately, both had bugs (moths) in them.
Since we arrived late, there were no open stores or restaurants nearby, not even a convenience store. We found a nearby bar online that was advertised as being open until 1am, but when we called, they informed us they were closing early due to a quiet night. However, they were kind and prepared some chips, samosas and spring rolls for us, which we appreciated as it was our only option for dinner.
For future guests arriving late, I highly recommend advising them to purchase food in advance.

It is alright, but not great - certainly it is worn around the edges. It is the first place I stayed in during my 3 week holiday with no fridge... So much for the by now warm riggers of beer I bought at breweries en route. The service was never with any kind of smile. The food in their restaurant was adequate and the beer was, to my taste, bland and unexciting. Staying here is not a disaster, but nor is it memorable. For the amount they must make (the room was not inexpensive) they could and should do better. But I guess it is a captive market in season, and ”just about good enough” is all they need to bother with.

Guest UserGiven 1 for amenities as the bed was too soft and the shower was very weak and the temperature gauge was very tricky. Needed to be a plumber to set the optimum temperature.
The fridge did not work. the temperature gauge button was broken

Citizen of The World - Veni, Vidi, ViciOur rooms have a breathtaking view of Franz Josef. The staff was friendly and helpful. The premise has no lift, but the staff was ready to assist with our luggage as we were on the second floor. Breakfast was excellent in a restaurant with a view. Highly recommended.

Guest UserGreat location in Hokitika, right on the beach. A number of relaxed food places nearby, Fat Pipi Pizza was really good and Triple B Burgers had very large , nice tasting burgers. The standard King room was OK, close to the pictures, but it seemed that there was absolutely no soundproofing between rooms. The carpark was too small for the size of the hotel and the car spaces were too small to get in/out of easily.

We had been advised by a relative that this hotel on the beach was worth staying at. We had a deluxe room up on the hill across the main road so we were not actually on the beach. However the view of the ocean was fantastic particularly in the stormy weather. Due to the weather we had to drive down to the restaurant for breakfast. Restaurant fully booked out by tour groups for dinner but the tavern about 1.5km down the road saw us right for a meal. The complex seemed to have several different standards of rooms and I think ours was the best.

We came here to stay by train. Although the motel is not very new, it has everything. There are supermarkets and daily necessities stores at the foot of the mountain. It takes about ten minutes to walk there. When the sidewalk is about to disappear, there is a trail connecting it in a hidden place, and you can walk to the parking lot of the grocery store.
The hotel can pick you up at the train station, which is actually very suitable for people like us who have big luggage from overseas and don’t have a car. recommend

Well, being on the way to Queenstown, this is a necessary stop, so there weren't many options. The room was fairly clean, but there was absolutely no service to speak of because there was no one around. We arrived at night and couldn't see the room number at all; the map sent in the email was also illegible. We searched around for several times before finally finding our room. Just as we found it, another Chinese couple came up to us asking where their room number 9 was. When we left the next day, there was still no one there; it was fine for just passing through.
