The hotel is a bit dated, but it is very well-maintained. Its location is extremely convenient, right in the city center, and within walking distance to convenience stores and a variety of local eateries. There is free outdoor parking available, although spaces are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The room is well-equipped with an ironing board, hairdryer, and even a bathtub. It also provides unlimited filtered water, which is very convenient, as well as a small refrigerator for storing cold drinks.
Check-in and check-out processes are smooth and efficient. The hotel lobby is standard but well-presented, giving a proper and professional impression.
Overall, it offers great value for money.

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The service was excellent, staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and the atmosphere was great. Convenient location with beautiful views as well. Thank you for making our trip so enjoyable. Highly recommended and will definitely come back again!

Extremely satisfied! It's about a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the airport and a 5-10 minute walk to Gaya Street, with plenty of shops nearby. The room was spacious and well-soundproofed, and housekeeping kept it very clean. Plus, the hotel staff were incredibly polite and friendly. Highly recommend!
Waiting for the boat at the pier, the staff member was really nice. He brought us chairs to sit on and even offered us water. Although I didn't catch his name, I really want to thank him!
Upon arrival, the front desk was already there to greet us. Honestly, if your English isn't great, communication on the island can be a bit challenging, for instance, regarding the shower water, Wi-Fi, or power outages. They explained everything in great detail, and the next day, they even followed up to ask about the hot water – they truly care about guest satisfaction. Oh, and they upgraded us to a high-floor villa! We encountered two geckos and a small snake in the room, but the kids weren't scared at all because they knew they were harmless creatures. A super-sized cockroach crawled out of the drain in the bathroom, haha, my child watched it for ages. To be honest, considering it's in the mountains, maintaining it to this standard is quite impressive. It was a great experience, far from the city's hustle and bustle, allowing us to enjoy the charm of the ocean and the forest.
We stayed in a high-floor villa and ordered room service for dinner. The delivery staff worked so hard, carrying the trays all the way to our room, and the food was still surprisingly hot, which really touched us. We gave them a small tip as a token of our appreciation for their efforts.

It's an older hotel, just like it was 20 years ago. The location is excellent, and the lobby is still grand. However, the room facilities are quite dated, and the beds in the twin room are very small.
**Environment:** You can watch the sunset from here.
**Cleanliness:** The swimming pool and snorkeling area were very crowded and a bit messy.

Pros:
1. I think it's female-friendly because you need to swipe your card twice to use the elevator and get to your room, which adds to the security.
2. There's an infinity pool on the top floor and a 360-degree unobstructed rooftop.
3. The location is very close to Tanjung Aru Beach (I walked, but ladies, I'd recommend a taxi).
4. The room is spacious and has a balcony.
Cons:
It's quite noisy. Firstly, the mini-fridge inside the room is loud, and the electrical distribution box also makes a buzzing sound. The soundproofing is also poor; if someone drags a suitcase outside the door, it's very noticeable.
The price of around 350 offers good value for money.
All the kids looked super happy! 😄
Really satisfied with choosing the 3-bedroom unit — it’s perfect for a family gathering.
This is already our 3rd time staying here, and it’s definitely worth it every time.
Just one downside: there’s no WiFi. Hopefully they’ll add it in the future 😊
Overall, very satisfied!

It's a little out of town but I chose it for the close proximity to the beach and swimming ,which is about a 10min walk from the hotel. There are street food and drinks stalls available from about 3pm . Tanjung Aru beach is beautiful, uncrowded and the beach shelves away gently making it a safe swimming area. However, the beach had rubbish washed up and maintenance isn't a priority I guess. I swam everyday and didn't get sick ,that's a bonus.
The room ( the whole place)was tired looking, it could do with a lick of paint and maintenance. Room was clean when I got there but I strongly doubt it was cleaned in the entire time I was there for five days. Often had to ask for toilet paper , shampoo and shower gel , and coffee sachets etc ,basics to be stocked whenever housekeeping does their cleaning. Air con worked for me although the settings couldn't be altered !
The bed springs creak and you feel the springs when you sit on the bed but I slept ok only because I was usually exhausted from the day's activities . The beds and mattresses definitely need renewing though.
The fridge was mouldy and smelly , what a blooming shame : /
The safe was broken - hallelujah!
I kept my room door locked at all times only because Reception staff hardly looked up to see who comes and goes- they sit very low, almost out of view at their front desk. I wasn't convinced about their perception of safety especially as I'm a solo female traveller and I need to be alert and take great caution.
Casuarina Hotel are you taking note?
Reception is helpful but that depends who is present.
Lifts work fine without too much of a wait. The cafe on ground level serves an American breakfast but I couldn't tell you whether that's worth your while. It looked like Mary Celeste everytime I peeped in there so wasn't convinced about getting fed or a service. Therefore, I had fruit and snacks as standby .. There's a lovely restaurant a few yards from the hotel called the Yolo Seafood Restaurant which tends to open from 11.30am- delicious and inexpensive with friendly staff.
Grab taxi fare to city centre varies from MYR 7- 25 Ringgit ,the higher tariff if returning during commuter rush hours from city centre which is a 15- 25 min ride .
Would I stay here again ? I would actually knowing all its idiosyncrasis compared to so many awful or simplly mediocre accommodation charging an arm and a leg , I think Casuarina is just ok . Value for money? I don't think so .

The location is great — it’s a small island so everything is nearby. Staff are helpful when you approach them, but don’t expect them to reach out first.
I stayed on the third floor and my room faced a storage area on one side and a solid wall on the other. I never once opened the curtains, so I completely lost track of daylight. If you stay here, avoid the lower floors and ask for a room with a road or sea view ,,,otherwise the window is useless.
Also, I’m not a fan of carpeted hotel rooms in general. They hold moisture and smell, hard to avoid. The furniture is also quite outdated and could use a refresh.

We were lucky enough to get a room upgrade when checking in, offering a full ocean view. It was absolutely stunning and made me feel like we'd chosen the perfect hotel – a true beachside getaway is exactly what a vacation needs! The room itself was very spacious, and the bathroom was even bigger, cleaner, and brighter than it appeared in the online photos. We arrived late and caught the tail end of the sunset, and it only took a few minutes to walk down to the beach to see it. My friend and I aren't early risers, so we skipped Jesselton Point the next day and instead departed directly from the hotel's pier to Manukan Island. There were plenty of boat times available, and we took the 12:30 PM one. There's a dedicated boat for hotel guests, which also drops you back at the hotel – super convenient. If you want to visit The Magellan, the hotel also provides a shuttle bus. The Magellan is more family-friendly, but if you're looking for better value, The Pacific is definitely the way to go. However, I do have to mention that many of the hotel's facilities are quite old. The showerhead was leaking, and I hope they'll replace it soon.

LLingbingxueerThe hotel is currently undergoing renovations, and the front desk service was incredibly slow. It took a full 40 minutes just to check in. I arrived at 4 PM, but my room wasn't ready until past 6 PM, by which time the sun had already set. To make matters worse, the buggy service was suspended due to heavy rain, and there was a long queue just to borrow an umbrella, leaving guests to walk back to their rooms in the downpour.
However, the beautiful sunset made up for it! The sky's colors were even more stunning and vibrant because of the rain. Many non-hotel guests even came specifically to watch the sunset.
The breakfast spread was plentiful, and even though it was crowded, they refilled dishes promptly. There were also performances during the dinner buffet. Overall, the service attitude was excellent.
KKT5009Don't book during the rainy season, don't book during the rainy season, don't book during the rainy season. It's from Sep to Feb. I said 3 times it's important if you don't wanna ruin your holiday. We booked 3D2N in mid Sep. Our holiday turned out to be a staycation nightmare in the resort. We can't do all the water activities neither the jungle trekking. The water heater in our room is not working, we have to shower with shivering cold water in this kind of weather. Lots of big size anta inside the room crawling from the bathroom to the bedroom. Make sure you cleaned up for your snacks and drinks, tie up the garbage bag if you don't want these insects to come to your bed, There is also a landslide happening on our first night, luckily we are not affected as we stayed in the ocean villa. There is only one restaurant in this resort, food prices are the same as SG restaurant pricing, no cheap option here. In room dining needs to pay RM25 extra. Staff service is good but this cannot cover the several run down part of the resort.
LLove CoffeeMy first stay here and I think would be my last too. Was actually requested a quiet room but still giving the room which facing the contrustion site. Noise of the construction site was up to 10pm+ and 5am+ the prayer from the nearby mosque will make you jump!
Impressive with the location but not the room. Furnitures in room quite old but still acceptable, but cleanliness and maintenance was terrible.
1) Water leaks out from shower room to walkway via the wall.
2) Old and dirty toilet with mold
3) Malfunctioning light bulb
4) Stains on the towel ( sticky like chocolate, like unwashed)
5) Ants on table & bed!
6) Loosen door lock
7) Dirty chair
NNicola1974The hotel and grounds are stunning! Beautiful pools and nice beach. The hotel room (Garden superior) was nice- with a big balcony. Water, coffee, insect repellant etc was refilled daily which was a nice touch. Daily cleaning was wonderful. The breakfast was perfect - Western and local choices- but trying to get coffee was terrible- long queues and unreliable coffee machines. Most days I skipped it and bought coffee from the pool bar. Happy hour 4-6pm daily is great with regular entertainment- fire shows and tribal dancing. Bar prices are obviously very high - £45 for a bottle of cheap wine. The biggest problem with this hotel is very slow service (hard working staff but not enough to serve the guests) The staff work super long hours so I felt bad complaining when I was waiting 45 mins for drinks each day. Also, all the restaurants stop serving food around 9.30pm then everywhere closes around 10.30pm which means the evenings can be quite boring- especially when there’s nowhere else to go as the hotel is far from anywhere. The spa is overpriced but I enjoyed my facial and hot oil treatment. My last gripe is the hotel day trips- absolutely appalling. The hotel is affiliated with Sabah travel company- poor communication, poor service, hugely overpriced and generally very bad. I recommend booking day trips through Trip.com instead of through the hotel. Allen the hotel supervisor was amazing trying to sort out the fiasco and I’m grateful- but I wasn’t offered a refund or compensation which is disappointing. I wanted to leave a poor review on the Sabah Travel’s website but they removed my booking so it wasn’t possible. I’d stay at this hotel again as the price is fairly reasonable but it def falls below the usual Shangri-la standards.

AAlice WFNHad a really lovely staycation recently! The facilities were great, and the sunset view was absolutely stunning, definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-designed, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
We were also happy to be able to get a connecting room this time, which made things so much more convenient for my family. We had requested wheelchair accessibility, and the staff truly did their best to accommodate our needs , really appreciate the kindness and effort shown.
One small area for improvement would be the landscaping around the resort, which could use a bit more maintenance.
Overall, my family and I are very satisfied with our stay and would happily come back again. Thank you for the thoughtful hospitality!

TTravelwithBamThe staff friendliness is just amzing 10/10. Excellent Service. Our room had amazing view of the sea and opposite resort called Gayana.
Dinner: Only Buffet option is available and its about RM167/person +taxes. The spread are fairly good and it is delicious.
Though they do have 2 more different Restaurant in the island,Japanese and fine dining.
Breakfast: Included in the room price. Menu changes daily.
I have nothing to complaint about the room, for us its comfortable. All rooms have exactly the dane Designs the only difference is where it is located. You are paying for the view.
Activities: For me I think 3 days 2 nights are perfect to spend your time here, swimming by the pool, kayaking, snorkling,Jungle trekking, visiting the private beach. 1 hour complimentary use of snorklinh masks. I like the public guests showers and towel provided.Very convinient.
One thing that I would like to comment is the boat fees are relatively very expansive.15 mins speedboat per person one way cost about Rm80+taxes..Just return trip cost RM170++ per person. This is not even including island conservation fees and tourist fees. All this added fees makes the Hotel cost more expansive. Because a boat trip to nearby or same Island cost only Rm40. GAYANA ECO RESORT provided inclusive/complimentary return boat fees. I hope the Management can improve this because we as Guests are going to spend more money on F&B and at the Bar.
Last but not least I would like to compliment the service and staffs in thsi Resort I think they did such an amazing job. Overalö the Resort is beautiful andclose to the nature.
