Had a pleasant stay for a short business trip. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Amenities were complete, especially the gym which was convenient and clean. Location is also strategic with easy access to nearby restaurants and conveniences. Overall, a comfortable and hassle-free experience. Would definitely consider staying here again for future work trips.

This is around town area, it is close to the two major shopping mall, Suria Sabah and Imago.
Room is spacious, bathroom with a bathtub, wanted to get a bath but unable to due to faulty stopper.
Slipper quality is really bad.
There's a fridge in the room. No water bottles provided as there's a filter drinking water tap in the toilet that you can directly drink from but I chose to buy mineral water myself.
The windows however are kind of higher up from the wall. Noises from motorbikes and cars could be heard from the room. Entertainment wise, not much of TV channel options but there's YouTube you can watch from.
Aircon is centralised aircon, can only adjust from the maintenance team, so you can't adjust the temperature or fan speed at all. The bathroom door is air ventilated door, so all the cool air would be coming into the bathroom from the room when you are having a shower, so it is quite cold after shower that's why we tried to adjust the temperature or fan speed and found that there is nothing to adjust until we call the front desk and was being informed that it is a centralised aircon which can only be adjusted by the maintenance team.
There's 7-eleven just 2 mins walking distance from the hotel.
Overall, a good stay, would consider again if I'm going for a shopping trip.

Except for the airport and Tanjung Aru, the location is excellent; you can walk to the night market and other markets. What stood out most was the amazing ocean view from the room and the clean swimming pool. I especially appreciated the washing machine and drying rack, which were very convenient, and the hot water pressure was excellent. I didn't see a single bug! If I ever go back to Kota Kinabalu, I'd definitely stay here again. 👍
What to bring: Maybe an extra towel or two?

It is an amazing hotel, centrally located with very generous amount of freebies like water different types of coffee and tea. The flow coffee also has very nice cakes.
The room was spacious and the air conditioning was comfortably cold, which I really appreciated. However, the carpet was dirty and there were noticeable cigarette marks on it, which affected the overall cleanliness. The shower pressure was just okay, not very strong. With some improvements in cleanliness and maintenance, the stay could be much better.

This hotel in Kota Kinabalu is quite good. The facilities are decent, though it's inconvenient that there's no laundry room with a dryer. The front desk service is good. They do require a cash deposit. Nearby, there's a good 'Welcome Seafood Restaurant' and a durian street.

The hotel is clean and hygienic. It's a one-bedroom apartment with a washing machine. It's very convenient for getting around, being close to the pier, so you can sleep in a bit. I was always the last one to be picked up for tours. It also has a balcony.

Our small family decided to have a staycation in few hotel/resort and by far Sutera has won our heart. This place is amazing and i suggest anybody who wants to experience this place to stay more than 1Night. The room is still in its Vintage style , tv only has those old channel , there's one bathtub in the room which we loved specially my son,for the breakfast i do believe they can add more choices as they are more korean dishes focused, it'll be nice to have local kuih (hinompuka/pais pisang) other than kuih pisang only.. But other than that, you actually get free 1hour of bike rental on ur stay which we only know when we ask around, it was located right in front of the kids pool , other than that they do have a small train going around from Magellan to Pacific sutera and its FOC!!! I loved the staff energy the entire time, he asked our son to be in his seat as a driver and even let my son press few button and act like he's driving the train!! god bless your fun soul sir!! keep up the good work!! we will definitely be back again soon🥰❣️

There was a big debate with my family when we were booking. I really liked the swimming pool here, while my family wanted to stay at the new Hyatt, closer to the jetty and Gaya Street. In the end, we decided on the Marriott. We didn't experience the issues mentioned online about no hot water or plane noise. The hot water was plentiful every day. You could hear planes before falling asleep, and I'm a light sleeper who really values quiet, but I slept very well all four nights. Maybe there aren't any planes late at night. For transportation, I personally don't think it's a big deal; it's a short taxi ride to both jetties, and getting to places like Welcome Seafood for food is also a very short taxi ride, just the base fare. It's only a bit further from Sabah University. The only thing I think could be improved is the breakfast; it was exactly the same all four days. It would be nice to have some variety! 😀 As someone who swims year-round, I'd swim in the evenings after island hopping and in the mornings before going to the mangroves. This pool is about 25 meters long and absolutely wonderful. Every day after my swim, I'd float on my back in the pool, watching planes fly overhead – it was incredibly relaxing.
The decor is a bit dated, but it's very quiet with a nice environment. There's a huge pool with a big slide that both adults and kids will love. It's perfect for a family or couples' getaway.

Great
AAnonymous UserI had a wonderful stay at Shangri-La (Kota Kinabalu) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The room was spacious, clean, and thoughtfully prepared. I especially appreciated the complimentary Nespresso coffee setup, which made mornings feel extra relaxing and convenient.
The sea-facing balcony was a highlight — offering stunning views of lush greenery, palm trees, and the ocean beyond. It was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Breakfast was excellent, with a good variety of fresh and well-prepared options. The food was delicious, and the dining area was comfortable and welcoming, making it a pleasant way to start the day.
Overall, the hotel combines comfort, beautiful scenery, and attentive details that truly reflect Shangri-La’s standard of hospitality. A great choice for both relaxation and a memorable seaside getaway. I would definitely return and recommend this hotel to others.
EElizabeth Ong Hui LingService is excellent. Staff do not hesitate to help, always address travellers politely, and take the initiative to serve water, give suggestions, overall making your experience smooth and fulfilling.
Food is also very delicious — other reviews say the food is pricey, but I think it’s quite affordable and well worth the price.
Rooms are large, comfortable and well-furnished.
Will definitely be back!
XXiaolanmaosarahThe hotel was really just so-so, but its location is great. It's only a 10-minute walk to the pier for boat excursions, and there are supermarkets and restaurants all around. However, I really have to complain about the hotel's service. We were two adults and one child, and we brought our own toiletries. We just wanted to ask for one more bath towel, but the hotel refused... Honestly, it's the first time I've encountered such a stingy hotel. I wasn't trying to take it home; it's just that two towels aren't enough for three people to shower. That's easy to understand, right? Seriously, it's speechless...
QQunqunbuaoyeleI was looking for a getaway from the city, so I chose this Shangri-La in the suburbs. I initially thought a hotel opened in 2015 might show its age, but to my surprise, the facilities were much better maintained than I expected. The room was very clean. The views were impeccable, though it was a bit of a shame that it turned cloudy every afternoon during my stay, so I missed the sunset. As soon as I entered the lobby, I felt the strong Christmas atmosphere. The Ocean Wing has its own dedicated check-in and breakfast area. Room service was just okay. The breakfast selection wasn't vast, but the food tasted good. The service was excellent; every staff member I encountered greeted us. For both check-in and check-out, we were assisted by FU, who was incredibly patient and answered all our questions.
AAnonymous UserThe island trip was truly unforgettable, the service was excellent, the staff were warm and welcoming, breakfast was a great experience thanks to the staff Anizah, who were attentive, friendly, and always ready to assist, the room was comfortable, every moment was filled with memories that will be cherished for a long time. And thank you to Arthur for always being helpful. Will come back again.
GGuest UserI have to say this is one of the best hotels that I have ever visited. The hotel room is dustless, very clean. The location is very strategic, less than 5 minutes walk to go to Todak waterfront to enjoy seafood, or another 5 minutes walk in opposite direction to go to Suria mall for shopping. The staff here are friendly and dedicated in their services. After checking in, the staff gave me a call to ask me whether I am happy with the condition of the room. The breakfast is awesome, many varieties and very tasty. I am a demanding person, but this hotel does not disappoint me. It should be a role model for other hotels to follow.
GGuest UserHotel location is superb. Walking distance to Waterfront.
Room is clean & comfortable although a bit small.
The bed is superbly comfortable
The sunset Seaview is breathtaking.
The only downside is the water pressure is too low.
Can’t enjoy taking a shower after a long hot day.

CcmoalkSerene place. Nearby beach, pretty sunset.
There are still construction going on. Room is great, spacious, comfy bed, hot shower. The only downer is, very bad phone reception and zero wifi. Shame they have nice huge smart tv but cannot use.
Service wise, very bad. There's an obvious double standard on local vs foreigner. Local are left to figure out where their room is - it's a sizeable resort, u will get exhausted if u have a lot of luggage, no map given too. When asked for direction, the receptionist just said ”belakang sana”, while white tourist get escorted to their front door..
And since phone connection is bad, u have to walk all the way to reception to ask for help..wifi not working, fridge not working, fan at verandah not working...pretty bad experince we're glad it's only a night stay.
EE3710****The hotel staff were all polite and enthusiastic. I didn't encounter any issues with discrimination against Chinese guests, no hot water at night, and no deposit was required. You can tell the hotel is a bit old, but it's well-maintained, especially the large private beach where you can snorkel, swim, or leisurely watch the sunset without having to deal with crowds elsewhere. That's a huge plus! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
On the second night, I saw a dying cockroach in the bathroom (its antennae wiggled for a long time). Considering it's a tropical region, it's understandable, and the fact that it was dying suggests the hotel uses pest control. However, housekeeping randomly took guests' personal belongings when cleaning the room. Two plastic bags with items in them were on the TV cabinet, and they were gone when I returned at night. This is the first time I've encountered such a situation in my 10+ years of travel. Although the items weren't valuable, their absence was very inconvenient. Housekeeping shouldn't subjectively assume guests' items are trash and take them away. That was a bit frustrating. Additionally, service efficiency was very low. One evening, I went to the front desk to ask staff to send some bottled water to the room. The front desk staff were very friendly and enthusiastically agreed, but I waited over two hours and nothing arrived. The in-room service phone was either busy or completely silent (maybe just a prop?), so I had no choice but to go down to the lobby again to get water. We checked in around 12 PM, but were told we couldn't get into the room until 3 PM (they informed us politely). The next day, I turned on the 'make up room' light before going out for lunch, but when we returned to the room around 2 PM, it still hadn't been cleaned. In short, everything was slow; it felt like the hotel was understaffed and overwhelmed.
