Huayan Temple in Datong is truly a must-visit treasure temple in Datong, well worth a visit. As a royal temple from the Liao and Jin dynasties, it boasts a rich architectural heritage and a serene and solemn atmosphere. The Mahavira Hall of the Upper Temple is magnificent, with its massive glazed tile roof ornaments being particularly impressive; the Bojia Teaching Hall of the Lower Temple is the essence of the temple, featuring lifelike Liao Dynasty painted sculptures, including the famous and graceful Bodhisattva with hands clasped and teeth showing, as well as the unique Heavenly Palace Pavilion, whose craftsmanship is breathtaking. The Huayan Pagoda offers panoramic views of the ancient city. The scenic area is well-maintained, making it a pleasant place to stroll. I highly recommend visiting Datong to experience the charm of this thousand-year-old architecture.

Huayan Temple is located in the center of Datong. This temple was built in the 8th year of Liao Qingning Period (AD 1062). In the Daxiong Hall of Huayan Temple, you can see the groundworks of Liao Dynasty and the buildings of Jin Dynasty, as well as the statues of Ming Dynasty and the murals of Qing Dynasty.
