Huayan Temple is located in the center of Datong. This temple was built in the 8th year of Liao Qingning Period (AD 1062). In the Daxiong Hall of Huayan Temple, you can see the groundworks of Liao Dynasty and the buildings of Jin Dynasty, as well as the statues of Ming Dynasty and the murals of Qing Dynasty. The Hall of BojiaJiaocang in the temple is the only Liao Dynasty building here. The statues from Liao Dynasty in the Hall are extremely precious. Show More ReviewsThe ancient Liao and Jin dynasty temple faces east, its main hall magnificent, the Liao dynasty sculptures in the Bhagavan Hall exquisite, the Bodhisattvas with clasped hands and showing teeth gentle and graceful, the celestial palaces and pavilions ingeniously crafted, and the Huayan Pagoda and the copper underground palace made of 100,000 tons of brass, with their pure imitation mortise and tenon structure, all breathtaking. The ancient buildings, painted sculptures, and murals are all national treasures; the newly created murals retain the ancient literary style, serene and uncommercialized.
