I highly recommend this guesthouse! Firstly, the location is excellent. It's right inside the ancient city, very close to Huayan Temple, Nine Dragon Wall, and the ancient city wall, making it incredibly convenient for getting around. Secondly, the room layout is fantastic. In a prime location within the ancient city where every inch is precious, finding a guesthouse with two bedrooms and two bathrooms is quite rare, and it perfectly met our needs. Room hygiene: The room was clean and tidy, with no strange odors, and it was cleaned daily. Disposable bath towels and toilet seat covers were provided. The guesthouse also has parrots 🦜, peacocks 🦚, squirrels 🐿️, and goldfish 🐟, which add a lot of life to the place, and these little animals are all very friendly to people. While there are many guesthouses in the ancient city now, I still recommend this one the most, and the reason is the service! The owner of this guesthouse has an excellent service attitude, answering every question. As soon as we arrived, seeing that we were tired, they immediately brought us iced watermelon 🍉 and peaches 🍑. In the morning, they brought us warm, homegrown old corn 🌽 and local specialties. We were very touched!

Excellent service with a fantastic attitude. The location is super convenient, right next to Laoye Temple Flavored Restaurant and Kaige Restaurant. It's also just 2 kilometers in a straight line from the ancient city. The hotel's food and beverages are great value for money. Parking is hassle-free. The only downsides are that breakfast gets very crowded, and the quality and variety could be improved. Overall, it's a good hotel with great value, definitely recommended!

What was most disappointing about this stay wasn't a broken piece of equipment or simply a late room delivery, but rather the hotel management's arrogant, shirking, and inactionary attitude when faced with problems. We booked three suites for two nights. The hotel's policy is a 12 PM checkout and 2 PM check-in. We arrived at 10:30 AM to check-in, but two suites weren't ready until around 4:30 PM, and the last one wasn't available until almost 5 PM. The duty manager, Becky, repeatedly explained that ”the previous guest only checked out at 3 PM.” However, a previous guest's late checkout, room status coordination, and housekeeping are all internal management issues for the hotel and should not be borne by the next guest. After checking in, we encountered a heating problem. At that time, the nighttime temperature in Mount Wutai was close to or even below 0℃. The hotel's in-room air conditioning system was off, and we had to rely on in-room heaters. The heater in one of the rooms was broken. Maintenance and management staff were slow to arrive, and we waited in the room for the duty manager for over 30 minutes, eventually having to switch rooms. The lobby manager, Manager Chen, explained that ”the hotel is relatively old,” and for the waiting time, stated that ”the front desk was busy, and this is considered a reasonable wait.” Even more outrageous, on the morning of September 30th, the guest in room 8228 went to the front desk in person to report being unable to sleep due to insect noise all night, and also had multiple obvious red swollen areas on their neck. The front desk took photos on the spot, provided a plug-in mosquito repellent, and stated that they would arrange for a re-cleaning of the room. However, during the afternoon discussion, the lobby manager still insisted that it might not be mosquito bites, but rather that ”the guest has a special constitution and is allergic.” Throughout the entire communication process, hotel management almost consistently explained why the problems were ”not the hotel's responsibility”: Late room delivery – blamed on the previous guest's late checkout; Manager's slow arrival – blamed on the busy front desk; Broken equipment – blamed on the hotel being old; Suspected mosquito bites – blamed on the guest's constitution; Cold room – stated there was no other solution. The lobby manager even repeatedly emphasized that ”the hotel is not a five-star hotel” and ”does not have a five-star rating, so it cannot be expected to meet five-star hotel standards.” However, the hotel itself is sold as a 5-diamond high-end hotel on Ctrip and is also under the Marriott brand. Guests were not asking for extra courtesies, but simply the most basic: rooms delivered on time, equipment functioning, heating when temperatures are near zero, and prompt resolution of issues when they arise. I want to particularly state that this review is not about compensation. The hotel did propose some compensation options during the process, but we ultimately did not accept any financial compensation, room rate reduction, or other benefits. Until our departure, hotel management did not offer a serious and formal apology for these issues. What I truly found unacceptable was the arrogance, inaction, and continuous shirking of responsibility displayed by the hotel staff when faced with problems. Old equipment can be repaired, late rooms can be coordinated, but if a hotel management team lacks even the most basic attitude of admitting fault, taking responsibility, and solving problems, that is the most serious issue. Objectively speaking, the hotel restaurant service was very good, and Jeremy from concierge was also very responsible. These employees deserve recognition. However, the guest room operations and the way management handled guest complaints fell far short of my basic expectations for the Marriott brand.

As a hotel within a scenic area, the facilities were clean and tidy. We had a view of the Yellow River from our window, and the service was excellent. We received helpful reminders during both check-in and check-out, and even a thoughtful souvenir. The restaurant downstairs had delicious food; compared to where we ate the next day, both the portion sizes and taste were far superior and very reasonably priced.

Hygiene: Better than expected! Even though it's an older five-star hotel, everything was spotlessly clean. Facilities: I personally prefer how these five-star hotels have everything you could possibly need. It's much better than modern, new hotels. They even provide separate shoe-shining cloths for sneakers and leather shoes, disposable face towels, bath mitts, irons, and umbrellas. Not only do they have soap, but also laundry detergent – so incredibly convenient! Service: Excellent! We received a complimentary fruit platter delivered to our room upon check-in. The breakfast/brunch buffet was very generous and, importantly, there was no queue. Location: Very close to the museum, city center, and other attractions. Taxis are incredibly easy to get.

Before booking, I saw many negative reviews about the hotel's outdated facilities and the courtyard parking. I debated whether to book, but curiosity eventually got the better of me as I wanted to experience this trendy Shanxi hotel. I stayed in the 'Jin Xian Lou' (Pure Yang Ya Ju) to the left of the main entrance, and the experience was awful. **Pros**: The service staff were all excellent, from the front desk during check-in to the breakfast servers and housekeeping. The room also had high ceilings, which I guess is a plus. The breakfast was alright. **Cons**: The elevator in the Jin Xian Lou had no ventilation; it was stifling hot as soon as you stepped in. The hallway outside the elevator had an indescribable musty smell. Upon entering the room, there was also an unpleasant odor, so I immediately opened the windows for ventilation. I could tolerate the room being old, and the cleanliness of a 45-square-meter room was just okay. However, I was shocked when I got to the bathroom. The plating on the shower faucet was peeling off, the shower door seal was yellowed and stiff, making it impossible to close the door. I didn't dare turn the shower water up too high. Also, the toilet seemed smaller than standard size, with an aftermarket smart lid that was positioned very oddly; a larger person probably wouldn't even fit. **Complaints**: For such a seemingly magnificent hotel, I found four hangers insufficient. I asked housekeeping for more wooden hangers, but they said they didn't have any wooden ones. They eventually brought back an assortment of plastic, wire, and other materials. Of course, housekeeping tried their best, but it's laughable that such a high-end hotel would use these hangers. Doesn't it cost much to buy some wooden hangers? The room I stayed in faced the courtyard (which was more like a public parking lot). The electronic sounds of license plates being called out from outside the window started from 6:30 AM and didn't quiet down until after 11:00 PM, along with car horns and other noises in between. The hotel hosts many groups and conferences, which makes it very noisy. It's not suitable for individual travelers who prefer a quiet stay. I will not choose to stay here again if I return to Taiyuan. It's all show and no substance, not worth it 👎

He also recommended a tour route in the city for us, which was very heartwarming~ The environment inside and outside the hotel is beautiful, which is a surprise! The yard satisfies my fantasy of Pingyao Ancient City! Moreover, the hotel is near the city building, which is easy to find. It is in the center of the ancient city when you go out, and it is very convenient to go out for a walk and go anywhere! The facilities in the room are complete, the sanitary conditions are good, the bathing is very comfortable, and the sleep is also comfortable! I will bring my parents and relatives to play next time!

The environment is great! The house is big and clean. It really exceeded the expectations of this trip. Traveling to Datong is cleaner than Datong City and is close to the expressway and scenic spots. It is very convenient to eat in residential areas. Xiao Wu at the front desk has a good service attitude and is clean and hygienic. , parking is free, will stay again next time

After several days of travel, staying here was perfect for a hot spring soak to wash away the fatigue. The night view is absolutely stunning, and the architecture is just like the Wang Family Compound. You can even walk along the city wall, which is very pleasant. I slept incredibly well – the bedding was comfortable, and the environment was quiet, so I slept right through until morning. Waking up to the sound of birds was a lovely experience. No need to worry about meals; the in-house Chinese restaurant charges the same prices as outside establishments, and the service is warm. The Wang family started with tofu, and here you can enjoy authentic Wang Family tofu with a very unique flavor. For parking or taxis, head directly to the underground parking lot. You can ask the concierge to help with your luggage. Since it's an ancient building, elevators cannot be installed, so expect to use stairs.
