PPangpangderderThis review is based on my personal experience with my 70-year-old mother, and is objective with verifiable facts. All recordings and videos are backed up in the cloud. Firstly, an objective overview of the guesthouse:
Hygiene: The owner and his wife clean the rooms themselves. Disposable towels, bath towels, and toilet seat covers are provided.
Room: We booked a scenic room, and it indeed offered the promised beautiful night view of the Miao village.
Amenities: There's a washing machine at the front desk; I didn't use it, so I don't know if it's a washer-dryer combo.
Accessibility: The first step upstairs in the guesthouse is very steep and not suitable for people with mobility issues (the elderly, those carrying young children, or anyone with walking difficulties).
Price: The price I paid, over 200 yuan, wasn't cheap but not overly expensive. On the night we arrived, many places in the same area were offering rooms for 180 yuan, but that's a matter of luck, so I wouldn't call it expensive.
The reason I can't give a good review and strongly disagree with the other five-star reviews is simple: Initially, the owner was very enthusiastic, proactively added me on WeChat, and communication was fine. However, after we drove through 18 winding mountain turns and arrived at the parking lot the owner had sent, the owner's wife first said we parked incorrectly, then claimed she wasn't familiar with the situation. Because it was late and the parking lot was empty, I couldn't find the North Gate, and with an elderly person and a pet, I asked the owner if he could kindly pick us up at the North Gate. The owner agreed and told us to wait for half an hour. During the wait, the owner suddenly backed out, refusing to pick us up and saying (which I understood was well-intentioned) that the stairs were too steep for the elderly, suggesting we cancel and find another place to stay. It was past 9 PM. I thought his point was valid and agreed to his suggestion, only to find that canceling would incur the full room charge. I then contacted the owner again, asking him to pick us up or not charge the full amount. The owner refused and told me to contact Trip.com. After several rounds of communication with Trip.com and the owner, we decided to proceed with the stay (because I didn't want to lose over 200 yuan for nothing, and felt it was unreasonable to be charged the full amount when the cancellation was due to his suggestion and not my fault). At this point, the owner stopped answering calls to pick us up (neither the North Gate nor the small North Gate). If anyone says they could find the place without a pick-up, I'd be impressed. It was already 10 PM. After getting off at the small North Gate, it was deserted, and I couldn't find anyone to ask for directions. After unsuccessful calls with the owner, Trip.com, and the scenic area management committee, I reluctantly called the police. We were eventually escorted to the guesthouse by the police. In the middle of the night, Trip.com even called me, trying to persuade me that the owner was being kind by offering a free night and canceling the order. I explained the whole situation and refused, fearing being kicked out again in the middle of the night!
The next day, the owner's wife, with a very good attitude, pulled the owner aside and said that last night's incident was a misunderstanding. They then drove us to the bus station outside the scenic area. After checking out, she even contacted me to cancel the order. And the night before, after I called the police and before they arrived (about ten minutes after my last call with the owner), the owner's wife felt sorry for my mother and me and came to pick us up at the small North Gate. This is also why I didn't give the lowest rating for service.
However, after the threats my mother and I experienced that night, where calling the police was our only recourse, I could not cancel the order nor give a five-star review. Because I know some people don't think they did anything wrong; they are just worried that bad reviews will affect their ratings and profits. Finally: I chose this guesthouse because I saw its high ratings, but I didn't expect such an unexpected experience. I also urge future netizens who book accommodations on Trip.com to evaluate and describe truthfully, and to carefully choose third-party platforms that provide services.
Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village Miao Museum pick-up: They promised to pick us up, then suddenly backed out. We were deceived and threatened. The next day, whether out of kindness or professionalism, they did drive us.
