🏰✨ TIPS for Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon! ✨🏰
#wecreate
The monastery itself is a work of art and definitely worth a visit. Once you arrive you will see two queues. The shorter one is typically for the church (free to visit) and the longer one will be for the monastery (you need to have a ticket).
The monastery hosted the famous signing of the 2007 Treaty of Lisbon which was held in the cloister of the monument.
The Lisbon card states you get fast track however, don’t be fooled, it just means you get the entrance, there isn’t a “fast-track” queue. We suggest you head over there first thing in the morning, the queue can be between 1-2h wait time at midday.

The building is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome, it became the necropolis of the Portuguese royal dynasty of Aviz in the 16th century but was secularized on 28 December 1833.
The church and the monastery, like the nearby Torre de Belém and Padrão dos Descobrimentos, symbolise the Portuguese Age of Discovery and are among the main tourist attractions of Lisbon. In 1983, UNESCO formally designated the Monastery of the Hieronymites and Tower of Belém as a World Heritage Site.

The Jeronimos Monastery is the most impressive symbol of Portugal's power and wealth during the Age of Discovery. King Manuel I built it in 1502 on the site of a hermitage founded by Prince Henry the Navigator, where Vasco da Gama and his crew spent their last night in Portugal in prayer before leaving for India. It was built to commemorate Vasco Da Gama's voyage and to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for its success.
Vasco da Gama's tomb was placed inside by the entrance, as was the tomb of poet Luis de Camões, author of the epic The Lusiads in which he glorifies the triumphs of Da Gama and his compatriots. Other great figures in Portuguese history are also entombed here, like King Manuel and King Sebastião, and poets Fernando Pessoa and Alexandre Herculano.
The monastery was populated by monks of the Order of Saint Jerome (Hieronymites), whose spiritual job was to give guidance to sailors and pray for the king's soul. It's one of the great triumphs of European Gothic (UNESCO has classified it a World Heritage monument), with much of the design characterized by elaborate sculptural details and maritime motifs. This style of architecture became known as "Manueline," a style that served to glorify the great "discoveries" of the age.

Jeronimos Monastery was built in 1502 and located in Praca do Imperio 1400-206, Lisboa, and is open from Tuesday to Sunday 1000-1700, close on Monday. Take Tram Line 15 to alight at Mosteiro Jeronimos and you will see the Monastery.
The cloisters are magnificent, with each column differently carved with coils of rope, sea monsters, and other sea motifs, evocative of that time of world exploration at sea.
The church interior is spacious with octagonal piers decorated with reliefs, and outside the garden laid out in 1940 consisting of hedges cut in the shape of various municipal coats of arms of Portugal.
The Jeronimos Monastery is one of the most visited sites in Lisbon, and it was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.
It seems to be the first time to visit a monastery in Europe, because the Raiders found that the monastery called Jeronimos Monastery is very famous in Lisbon.
Specially chose the team that thought that there might be fewer people but queued to buy tickets in the morning or scared me.
Still early, although there are many people in the queue, but there are not many people coming in, you can take pictures in the hallway, but it may be because no one except me will do more in this corridor. Stay, many people just went straight.
Right, there is no need to entangle the morning or afternoon to get the sun to come in. This corridor is all around, so it can be in the morning or afternoon. In fact, I don't know if anyone will entangle this problem. Anyway, I have been entangled for a long time before I came and I have checked a lot of information but no one mentioned it. . . The cathedral in
the monastery is free, we chose to watch the church directly upstairs.
It is said that in the 1755 earthquake, the whole of Lisbon was destroyed, but the church alone stood out. It is no wonder that this monastery and church are of great significance to Lisbon.
A slice 🍰 of heaven 🕊️ in Portugal 🇵🇹

Address - 📍Jeronimos Monastery, Praça do Império 1400-206 Lisboa, Portugal
Highlights - It is definitely one of the must go places in Lisbon. Because it is so popular, there is always a long queue (100-300m) at the entrance.
If you have bought tickets online, you don’t need to go to the ticket booth at the park opposite to the monastery entrance first before joining the queue to get in 🤗

Jeronimos Monastery is beautiful made with the arches, the water fountains and the architecture itself, I took many instagram photos from this attractions. And I had used one of the photos as my profile photo in Trip Moments.

Jerónimos Monastery is one of the must visited place in Lisbon and it is located near to the Tagus river. The ticket is around €10 for adult and I will say this is fair price! The inside of the buildings are beautiful and huge . The rooms are unique and special with 16th century architecture style. Furthermore, I really admired the garden what it looks like and overall it was an unforgettable experience to visit one of the oldest buildings in Lisbon!

Manueline architecture
Manueline style is a unique architectural style that emerged in Portugal in the late 15th to mid-16th century due to its strong emphasis on developing maritime power, named after the ruling monarch at the time, Manuel I.
Its architectural features lie in the twisted cylindrical shape, royal emblem, and intricately decorated window frames, as well as the use of natural imagery such as shells and anchors embedded in stones. The most representative examples include the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon, the Jesus Monastery in Tomar, the Alcobaça Monastery, and the Batalha Monastery. In addition, the influence of Moorish architecture is also a major characteristic of Manueline style, with the Sintra National Palace as its representative building.
