Jusangjeolli are stone pillars piled up along the coast and is a designated cultural monument of Jeju Island. Jusangjeolli Cliff was formed when the lava from Hallasan Mountain erupted into the sea of Jungmun. They are rock pillars shaped like cubes or hexagons of various sizes and almost seem as if stone masons had carved them out. The administration of the district named them 'Jisatgae Rocks' from their old name 'Jisatgae'.

When Mount Hallasan erupted into the Jungmun Sea, its lava suddenly cooled, shrinking in mass, forming the many cube-like blackish rock pillars that we collectively know today as the #jusangjeolli Cliff. Formed hundreds of thousands of years ago, it is also one of #jeju designated cultural monuments

This is a geological wonder of Jeju - the cliff is a volcanic rock formation made up of vertical pillars shaped in cubes of hexagons. Amazing view as you walked along the trail. Tickets are at 2000 won per adult and 1000 per child/youth. Also do explore the area at the foot of the cliff - just take the left trail at the main entrance (no tickets required for this path).

In Seogwipo, Jeju Island, it's a place that resembles Iceland
This should be a scenic spot that has an atmospheric feel whether it's sunny☀️ or cloudy.
The columnar jointing is formed when the lava that erupted from ⛰️ Mount Hallasan flowed into the sea in front of the Chinese region and cooled,
consisting of organ-shaped or irregularly shaped stone pillars of various sizes.
It feels very similar to the basalt columns of Iceland's black sand beaches, and it's very photogenic📷.
I stayed in Seogwipo City for two days, and for the seaside🌊, I chose this one place.
I first went to the 🍊 Orange Cafe for a coffee, then took a bus to Yakcheonsa Temple.
After touring, I took a taxi to the columnar jointing area🌄 to watch the sunset, and the timing was just right.
🎫Ticket: 2000 Korean Won
🕒Hours: 9:00-17:20
⚠️TIPS
They close the doors super punctually after work, even before the sunset is over.
But you can go out🚶♀️ and walk to the left for a while,
and you can still find an angle to finish watching the sunset.

Ole Market
Lunch can be solved in the market, various snacks and desserts
Feel a person can't eat too much, it's better to go with someone
Recommend tangerine mochi and tangerine ice cream, super delicious
Columnar Joint
The landscape feels a bit like the Giant's Causeway in the UK
Looks like a person's footprint
The seaside scenery is also very beautiful, very photogenic
️Precautions️
The seaside is very sunny, be sure to pay attention to sun protection
city walk all day time is relatively tight, it is recommended to go out early
If you want to participate in the sea project, it is better to book in advance
If you have time, you can stay in Seogwipo for one night
The cost performance of the Tangerine Garden Cafe is not high, but the tangerine latte is really good
Jeju Island | Coastal Columnar Joint Belt
Must-visit destination
🌟Highlight features: The entire scenic spot has a coastal plank road where you can enjoy the sea view while walking. At the end of the plank road, there is also a garden where you can take a break from the sun and cool off 🌿.
🌟Highlight features:
You can take a speedboat 🚤 and tour around the columnar basalt sea, enjoying the scenery from different angles.
Next to it is a pedestrian bridge with a strong sense of design. Under the bridge is a windy spot. In the peak of summer, you can dip your feet in the water and feel the sea breeze. It is definitely a great place to escape the heat.
🚉Transportation guide:
No need to take a taxi to get here, the island's public transportation is very convenient. Just check on Google Maps and you'll know. I had the experience of taking a Korean bus 🚌 (with air conditioning, seats, and even Wi-Fi on board)
🇰🇷🌴Jeju Island Xiguipo attraction | Columnar joint belt |
🇰🇷🌴Columnar jointing refers to the vertical joints that appear in basaltic lava, most of which are polygonal. Looking closely at the stone pillars, you will find that they are generally four or hexagonal.
It is the result of magma erupting from the crater, flowing into the coast of Xiguipu, and rapidly cooling when it meets seawater, causing a contraction effect.
The scenic spot is actually a park, not very big. After viewing the main landscape from the plank road, you can walk along the park's trails and observe the texture of the columnar jointing from different angles.
On the day of arrival, the weather was particularly sunny, and every shot was a beautiful scenery.
🎫Ticket: 2000 Korean won.
📍Location: The place is inside the Chinese Tourist Park, next to the International Conference Center.
🇰🇷Jeju Island | A must-see beach in the southern part of the island
Different from the typical beach coastline.
The most distinctive feature of this beach is the columnar jointing.
I heard that the coast rocks were formed by the eruption of the Hanla Mountain volcano, layer by layer.
The Dapu columnar jointing zone is a group of volcanic rock columns formed by the cooling of volcanic lava flows in the pre-sea area of China. The entire jointing zone is distributed along a 2-kilometer coastline, with the Dapu columnar jointing zone reaching a height of 30-40 meters. Most of the columns are pentagonal or hexagonal in shape, and their size and scale are considered the best in Korea.

Jeju Island’s Most Beautiful Place to Visit
Jeju Island is an island in the south of South Korea.
Jeju Island is one of my favorite places to travel to as a solo traveler because it is extremely safe. Jeju island has great public transport and it’s great for hiking and I just love seeing great sceneries while exercising.
One of my favorite places to visit while in Jeju Island is Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff. It’s located in the south of the island and offers a stunning view of interestingly shaped rock formations created by the volcano thousands of years ago.
There is a boardwalk to get to the edge and stand above the ocean. There are paved paths around the Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff to walk around.
☕️ There is a Jeju International Conventional Center nearby that has restaurants and coffee shops to take a break and relax.
🚗 Getting there - If you take a bus 🚌 to the Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff, you’ll probably arrive at the Jeju International Conventional Center Bus Stop and walk to the Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff from there.
You can also take a taxi 🚕 or hire a private driver for the day.
Enjoy visiting Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff and have a great day 😊

Beautiful Deep Cliff
really beautiful cliff in Jeju
Jeju Island columnar joint zone, nature is wonderful
travel to the Chinese area of Jeju Island, must go to the columnar joint belt of the beach to have a look. It can be seen that the stone pillars piled up on the coast, the blue sea rushed to the waves, and the white waves smashed as if the stone was carved by the stonemason, which made people exclaim that this is a miracle of nature. The roadside is still a tourist, no wonder the Chinese tourist area is a place where Korean locals like honeymoon. One of the high-end boutique hotels abounds, the second is the sparsely populated, extremely quiet. The ecological environment is also very good, you can see cockroaches, butterflies and birds everywhere. Stone pillars piled up on the coast, where you can see many people fishing by the sea. The columnar joint belt is a famous attraction. There is a visitor center. We bought a super delicious grilled squid and orange-flavored omelet from a South Korean uncle. Really very delicious! highly recommended.
Take the Airport Bus No. 600 and get off at Jeju International Convention Center and walk for 5 minutes to the right. Tickets: Adult 2
On the two-kilometer coast between the Chinese Cave and Dapu Cave, there is a black rock belt of 1,000 meters long, which is the most famous natural wonder of Jeju Island, the columnar joint belt. The formation of the
columnar joint zone is actually the principle of thermal expansion and contraction. When the crater of the Halla Mountain volcano, the highest peak of Jeju Island, erupted hundreds of thousands of years ago, it sprayed a magma with a temperature higher than 900 degrees and rapidly cooled into the sea, so there was The most amazing natural landscape of Jeju Island today.
Follow the signs and walk along the boardwalk to the edge of the cliff. One of the platforms is the best place to watch the columnar joints. It is right next to me. Looking closely at the columnar joint belt standing in the sea, I have to marvel at how wonderful the magic of nature is. The sea water slaps on the neatly arranged stone pillars, picking up the white waves, and slamming the shore, leaving only the sound of the waves.

Thanks to nature's ingenuity, let us see the magical sight, the columnar joint belt is such an amazing existence. It is the result of the magma erupting from the crater and flowing into the coast of Seogwipo, where the seawater rapidly cools and shrinks. When the waves are raging, the waves can be as high as 10 meters. This scene is really amazing.

Here in the tourist area of Seogwipo City, it is also an address wonder. According to the tour guide, the high-temperature lava erupted by the volcano encounters icy waters of different sizes, or square or hexagonal stone pillars on the coast. Layers are stacked, unique and spectacular. It is also famous for hitting the cliffs of nearly 20 meters high and fishing by the sea.
Looking at the hexagonal stones that have been carved by hand are actually the magical work of nature, you can't help but sigh the wonders of this world.

Columnar joints are geological names. The temperature at which volcanic magma erupts is 1200 degrees Celsius. When the magma is cooled to 800 to 900 degrees Celsius, the magma crystallizes to form columnar joints. Since the magma contains hexagonal plagioclase, olivine, amphibole, pyroxene and other minerals, it forms a hexagonal cylinder after cooling. The columnar joint of Jeju Island is a black rock belt with a length of 1,000 meters, so it is called a columnar joint belt.
Jeju Island locals like the stone, there are difficulties, there are desires to like the side of the base, while asking the stone, if the barrier has been, the stone did not fall, as the wish will be realized.
Jeju Island Column Joints
This attraction is located in the Chinese Cave of Seogwipo City. It is a very peculiar natural landscape. When the volcanic eruption, the high temperature molten water meets the cold sea water on the coast, and then forms a square or six. Square stone pillars piled up on the coast. These huge rocks, which look like stonemason carvings, are actually the most casual works of nature. When the waves are playing on the rocks of these columnar sections, the whole scenery is very spectacular. Compared to the calm of other coasts of Jeju Island, the coast here has very strong waves, especially when standing on the trails to enjoy the raging waves during the high tide, and even more excited about the ocean.
