Signature local prawn noodles
Located in the heartland neighbourhood of Ang Mo Kio, this Singaporean local hawker stall is known for its prawn noodles! Their broth is double-boiled with prawn shells, making it taste absolutely flavourful and hearty.
You can also order additional pork ribs to your dish, although I did find it slightly overcooked as it didn’t fall off the bone as easily. But the best part is the food here is very affordable, you can get a bowl for as little as $4. The hawker centre has plenty of seats but it can get pretty crowded in the mornings and evenings!
My overall rating of the experience: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wagyu beef hotplate at a BARGAIN
🥩 Wano Niku: A Wagyu Delight Among Hawkers
📍 181 Ang Mo Kio Ave 5, Block 181, Singapore 560181
Tucked away amidst the vibrant hawker scene, Wano Niku stands out as a luxurious gem that promises an exquisite Japanese wagyu hot plate experience without the extra cost of dining at a formal restaurant.
The star of the show, the premium wagyu beef, is a testament to Wano Niku's commitment to quality. Each slice is masterfully seasoned and marinated, ensuring a burst of flavor in every bite. But it doesn't stop there – the carefully curated sides, including zesty kimchi, refreshing ginger, and an array of delectable sauces, create an orchestra of tastes that complement the wagyu perfectly.
What truly sets Wano Niku apart is its ability to provide a taste of the upscale wagyu dining experience without the hefty price tag of a high-end Japanese restaurant. This hawker stall offers a more budget-friendly option for those who crave the rich flavors of wagyu but are mindful of their wallets. In a bustling city like Singapore, where culinary gems abound, Wano Niku shines as a must-visit spot for anyone seeking a sumptuous and wallet-friendly Japanese wagyu adventure.

No Monday Blues at Monday Coffee Bar
I love coffee, it's my instant perk me up and instant mood lifter! So definitely there's no Monday Blues whenever I visit Monday coffee bar at 421 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. Their coffee chase my blues away.
Monday Coffee Bar is situated at the bottom of an old HDB block in Ang Mo Kio and just when you thought no one would visit such a cafe in an old estate, you will be wrong. This little coffee bar with perhaps about 10 seats was bustling with coffee lovers, eager for a cup of coffee and their famous Sando sandwiches such as the chicken katsu sando. For coffees, they have the usual latte, cuppacino, genmaicha latte, etc. If you order a pastry/sando and a cup of coffee, you will get 15% off, definitely worth it as a set. I love how simple their cafe is, how simple their menu is but I really love how good their coffee and food is. Worth the visit.

Mural Hunting in the Heartlands
Painted by local artists, these murals serve not only to invigorate the old estate of Ang Mo Kio, but also to relieve some memories of the neighbourhood in the past and showcase our local culture. These murals are mostly painted on the lift shafts, as they make good canvases due to the blank spaces and the heights for room to paint. Some of my favourites include Mona Lisa having a durian feast, the favourite fruit for most of us locals and the macaws in vibrant colours. Most of the murals are located at the town centre near to the Ang Mo Kio Hub shopping mall, but there are also some murals that can be found elsewhere in the area too.

Check out SG murals at AMK and take photos

Are you one that likes art? Love artwork related to Singapore? Love to check out murals in SG?
Check out the murals located around Ang Mo Kio, where you can find murals no matter which exit you take from Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange. They are found under the HDB blocks where there are stalls, so head down when you have some free time where the weather is not too sunny as you can take a chill walk around the Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood.
As you can tell, some of these murals have individuals with mask on as well, so definitely something new for you to check out if you like Singapore murals or artwork.
Bring an umbrella in case it gets rainy with the weather being unpredictable these days.
Hike up a hill to a neighbourhood park
Singapore has many green spaces dotted around the island, big and small. While it may be easy to miss the smaller parks or take them for granted, it is still worth exploring these neighbourhood parks and gardens, as they provide recreation for the residents staying in the area and allow them to destress and appreciate nature.
Ang Mo Kio Town Garden West sprawls on a hillock in a quiet neighbourhood of Ang Mo Kio opposite the library. There are many steps and roads to give visitors a good cardio workout, or to simply enjoy some fresh air and the greenery provided by the sprawling grass and towering trees. One can get to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the area by climbing up the stairs to the plaza. The roads are either flat or gentle slopes, hence getting around the park is generally manageable though tiring.
At the bottom of the hill, there is also a sandy playground with swings, slides and rope towers for the kids to play and expend their energy. There is also a Macdonald’s outlet near the playground which not only allows dine in and takeaway, but also has a drive-thru for those who drive. This fast food joint can be an option to bring the kids there for a meal.

Cheap and good dim sum at AMK!
#musteat
Kow Loon Hong Kong Dim Sum
Kow Loon Hong Kong Dim Sum is located at a coffee shop at Blk 151 Ang Mo Kio Ave 5. Their dim sum are hand-made by their staff and steamed or fried on the spot.
Prices are lower than most dim sum restaurants (starting from $3 onwards) and is affordable as they do not charge GST or service charge.
To order, just grab a copy of their order chit and a pencil, write down your table number and tick off whatever you’d like to order. Bring to the counter to make payment and they will serve the steaming hot dim sum to your table.
I would recommend the siew mai(minced pork and shrimp dumpling), chicken feet and bbq pork chee cheong fun (portion is big and the rolls are quite silky soft).
Fitness corner
#mustdo
AMK fitness park
Address: 570 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, Singapore 560570
Nearest MRT: Ang Mo Kio station
In so many neighbourhoods in Singapore, you can always find a fitness corner. It is built to encourage healthy living and also a common place to foster neighbour bonding. For sure, when you see a fitness corner, there is always a playground nearby. It is a good place to come over, the grandparents can do light exercise while watching their grandchildren at the playground. All these outdoor fitness corners were an alternative during the pandemic when all the gyms were told to shut down temporarily. It is also a good place to start exercising without paying extra fees. From the website: “ 3-Generation playgrounds combine fitness corners for adults and the elderly, with children’s playgrounds. Introduced since mid-2000, they make it fun for families to work out and play together, and bring different generations of residents together. I am happy to know the HDB towns in Singapore are a comfortable place to live in.

Opening Hours - 11am to 730pm. Close on 2nd and 16th of lunar month.
I went on a Sunday so I had the chance to try the Rendang Nasi Lemak and I highly recommend everyone to try this! It is sooooo good! The rice has strong aroma of coconut, the meat ('monkey head' mushroom) taste like nonya style full of lemongrass very flavourful for me. The rice is in a pyramid shape. Chilli and long bean are not very spicy.
Would definitely go back again to try the other dishes soon!
P/S: not thirsty at all after eating, thumbs up!
There are other stalls at the coffee shop for example

Fishball noodles
Zi Char

Dragon Playground
#localhistory
AMK dragon playground
Address: 570 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, Singapore 560570
Nearest MRT: Ang Mo Kio station
The iconic dragon playground can also be found at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3. The most famous dragon playground is at Toa Payoh Lorong 6. This dragon playground represents our Singapore Heritage. It is one of the earliest playgrounds built in our neighbourhood back in the 1970s. Many grown ups can relate their childhood back to this dragon playground. The dragon is made up of terrazzo mosaic tiles which make it so special. It gives a nicer and life-like appearance to the dragon. It is entirely different to the modern playground which does not use tiles anymore. I am happy that there are still dragon playgrounds being left untouched in our fast-moving society.
Art Murals in bottles at Ang Mo Kio
Caught my eye on these interesting inspiring bottled Art Murals while walking to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park! These 3 colourful art pieces are found on pillars under the Ang Mo Kio MRT viaduct, along the cycling path! How cool was that 😍
These bottles are inspired by children's books titles: Jack & the Beanstalk, The Crow & the Pitcher & Alice in Wonderland, as you can see when close up (if you don't know). These add colours to the otherwise monochrome grey concrete & bring joy to the walk. I especially love the last "Drink Me" bottle of which I immediately thought of Alice in Wonderland. When looking on the other side of this pillar, it's inspiring to see positive messages on Happiness! Lovely
Some other little colourful additions under the MRT viaduct include the colourful hopscotch on the floor too.
