My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and were drawn in by reputation and quality of the other principal hotels across the country. I was shocked to read so many bad reviews and almost booked somewhere else as a result. It seems most of the intolerant previous residents had issues with noise, smells. food, rooms, service. We didn’t experience any of that and can only conclude that most of the reviews are either planted as false information by competitors or result of warm summer, outdoor bar or questionable views / aspect of room. We stayed in a king on 3rd floor, room 300. If you’re worried about anything just book that one! Tasteful clean decor and great views to the minster. Notable comments for James who went above and beyond to sort out a small issue with audio description hardcoded into the TV, sorted smoothly and efficiently. Great location, atmosphere and setting. We will be back with our dog next time. Don’t believe everything you read from dissolutioned guests who want a megaphone to comment on perceived issues.

I will start with the parking, I paid for secure parking however due to the hotel having noise issue the security gate to the carpark (The noise caused complaints) and second issue of refurbishment being ongoing, the gate was up to allow the building teams to park in the entrance way. This made it difficult to get out of the carpark due to there vans. When I questioned staff they were very dismissive of the issue and said they had CCTV on so it would be fine. The hotel itself is being partial refurbished and that is to revamp the very dated rooms, we were aware of this beforehand, however we were not prepared for 7am drilling and banging from the building works. In addition to this the corridors were often filled with building equipment and furniture which was ongoing throughout the stay. The room, while well proportioned, was very dated. This could have been forgiven if it wasn't for the fact the room was not clean. There were a number of stains on the carpet, the bathroom sink was stinking when used. The bath mat was moldy and the shower itself was a trickle of water, making it difficult to wash quickly. The curtains were very grubby and the room smelled very stale, the bed was adequate but we couldn't be 100% that the sheets had been properly cleaned as there was an odd smell to the bedding. The TV was of decent size but kept cutting in and out of signal when in use, which was annoying when we decided to have an early evening chilling in the room we had paid for, the WiFi was useless, if planning to work while staying here you will need to hotspot your phone. The breakfast food was OK, however the description of a wide choice of cooked food and continental breakfast dishes was over exaggerated, there was no fruit on two days and bananas on the last morning, one choice of yogurt and 3 small cereal options. The cooked food was standard: Bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns, tomatoes,mushrooms and bean's. Toast was something that had to be requested and was more like warm bread. On the first morning my partner was served a cup with the remainder of someone's lipstick stains on the rim. On closer inspection of the glasses there were a number which were not clean. On the second night we went to the bar area to grab a couple of drinks. The bar was full of empty unwashed glasses and when we got our drinks our glasses where sticky. There was a smell of stale ale which was not appealing in the slightest. On checking out raised a couple of things with the receptionist and was meet with at best distinct lack of interest and worst just plan rudeness. Sadly this hotel did not meet the standards it professed to uphold. I would say the location and river view was pretty and the fact the parking was at the hotel itself made it one of the reasons I booked it. However after this visit I will not be visiting again as there are better hotels in York and carparks that are not much more expensive than the supposed secure parking.

The hotel has a great location, it is behind a city wall just next to the railway station, takes actually less than 5 minutes' walk. And don't believe the Google map because it will lead you to a longest walk. Instead ask the staff for a shorter path. And only 10 minutes walk to the York minister. The staff are nice and friendly. Breakfast is delicious. We spent a lovely day at York.

Awful stay, sleep deprived because we had a faulty fire alarm screaming alarms into our ears and the last night and following day were completely ruined for us negating the whole point of a short two day city break. Fire alarm was faulty and repeatedly went off during the night, screeching into your ears starting at 10 pm, if that doesn’t sound like fun to you, avoid, especially as the issue wasn’t fixed when we left. Alarm issues started on Sunday morning but didn't seem to be passed onto staff on Sunday evening and were not dealt with or forwarded. Fire alarm went off on Sunday night at 10pm which should have registered a major issue but rather than deal with it, roomzzz just left it. I rang the member of staff on duty and told him it needed silencing due to him saying it was a faulty sensor and i informed him it had gone off before that day of which he was not aware. He simply wasn't trained to do it or trained in escalation and simply left it, having already disturbed everyone at 10pm on a Sunday night which is ultimately managements fault for not making sure staff understood what to do in emergency situations. Faulty alarm then predictably woke everybody up at 2am which i told the member of staff the first time we didn’t want to be woken up again, then at half 2 and then it went off again a few times when the staff member finally decided to get the manager out of bed, which should have happened when the issue first appeared on Sunday morning or at the very least sorted at 10pm when it went off at 10pm Sunday evening. To top it off it went off again Monday morning at 11am. The Manager was nice but full of the usual excuses which i just were not buying, she said it could have been handled better but it was handled at all, it was amateur at roomzzz York. Its likely still faulty as i type this due to the alarm company clearly not being called out. She said there was not a lot that could be done because it’s the fire alarm which is just…a lie, the zone or faulty sensor should have been isolated on the system. Again lack of knowledge on what to do from management. To top it off we had someone hammering away on Monday morning at 11 am, clearly nobody communicates who is in what rooms. Other than that the stay was standard though not to the quality we had when we visited the Chester roomzzz aparthotel. TV was faulty when we booked in which was a minor inconvenience but nothing compared to having screeching faulty fire alarms shocking you out of bed. Awful experience and we rushed home due to been knackered because my partner couldn’t get back to sleep, rather than enjoying the day out in York.

When we arrived there was no staff anywhere to be seen until someone from restaurant came and got someone, however when she did arrive she was very nice and helpful. I asked to be in a refurbished room and wasn’t, shower was broke and hanging off the hinges and squirts all over. The car parking is not good as there is only 6 spaces and it’s £10 per night. Food was nice however wasn’t fully well done like I asked but was still nice. Lovely man in restaurant and guy behind reception on nights took pictures for us and brought my bfs surprise bday cake out. Lovely night staff got us water after we arrived back after night out. Would like to thank the housekeeping staff for making the room lovely with all of the decorations I brought to decorate it with for my bfs bday.

I cannot fault anything about the stay, although I didn't have the opportunity to try the food as I only arrived late in the evening and I was out early the next day. The standard single room was perfectly adequate for my needs, with a lovely bathroom and a wonderful shower. I was able to park right outside the door and the staff I spoke to were very polite and helpful. I will happily stay at this hotel again in the future.

Myself, my son (11 years) and our puppy Hugo and my parents had the privilege of staying in this hotel for 2 nights whilst we had a 2 day city break in York. The staff are extremely welcoming, so friendly, happy to help and fun. The reception area is awesome with so many games and books to read we never had a dull moment. The staff were so good with Hugo, which was a bonus that we could bring our puppy and feel so welcome we would love to come back and stay. The beds are so comfy, massive flat screen tv in rooms, lovely showers and really cool deign in rooms we loved it. The staff really went out of there way too help in anyway they would and gave us a really friendly Advice in where to go too to eat and see th sights of York. Our room was cleaned beautifully and we enjoyed sitting out in the courtyard for our complimentary drinks on our last night. Wonderful ! What more can you ask for :) thanks everyone you made it very special for us all :)

Booked here for 3 nights. Pictures on internet look fine along with most reviews. But when arrived. Greeted by jason and was told to leave bags downstairs while he checked us in. Took us in a room which was very dated and chairs were badly ripped. (This is the dining area) (Not the best first impression) but jason sorted out the parking permit for us. Then asked what we want for breakfast. Full english and we had to have the same for 3 mornings. . And time of breakfast had to be same time each morning. .Anyway got keys to rooms. Room 6 . Opened door . Room was full of dust. Had a look round and it wasnt cleaned at all. Beds weren't made properly and floor was filthy. Extension cable inbetween 2 single beds. . Wardrobe you couldnt open because it is so close to bed. Dressing table stool couldnt pull it out properly because other bed was in way. Then bathroom . It was disgusting. There were hairs on floor along with plenty of dust. Built up of grime on the shower in corners. Shower which was electric ,it was hot but not much pressure from it. We would of walked away but we were with friends who had booked it and paid up front. At breakfast we went at our set time for the door to be wedged so we couldnt get in. Anyway door opened. Couple of mins later. Toast already on table which was stone cold. with coffee and tea. There were another table for two and their food was on table but hadnt got gown yet. Not good. When we poured coffee it was luke warm. Told the lady and she wasnt very happy. Her response was. Cant be ive just done it . She grabbed it and walked away. She returned with another which was hot but said nothing. Kitchen door was left open and all you could here was a conversation between her and her colleague. Life stories. The kitchen didnt look the most hygienic. Luckily we only used the place to get head down. Beds were awful. Very lumpy and duvet full of bobbles. After 2 nights of having to stay we had to leave couldnt cope with another night in the place. There were lots of other things but i would be writing forever. CERTAINLY WOULD NOT BE RETURNING!!!! We stayed at the Parsonage for a couple of nights in September. We were so glad we chose this hotel as we had a fabulous stay. We were lucky enough to get a good deal from Hotels.com We had a lovely room that felt as if it was separate from the hotel, a couple of things needed updating but it did not affect our stay, the room was clean and comfy, the shower was powerful. If we needed anything we went reception and were accommodated straight away. The breakfast was lovely, plenty of it, food was replenished quickly and it was nice to see that food was taken away if it had been standing for a while. my husband is a vegetarian and the chef looked after him. The waiting on staff were challenged this day as i heard people asking for gluten free toast, decaf drinks , along with our own requests, but nothing was too much trouble. I would just like to say that there were a couple of staff members who stood out and went the extra mile to make sure everyone was happy, firstly the young lady on reception who had been in position a week , she also did some waitressing at breakfast, her personality shone through and we generally thought she wanted to do her best to help everyone enjoy their stay. There was also a chap cleaning the spa area who again went out of his way and seemed to have good judgement if people wanted a conversation or just a polite smile. All other staff members were very professional and we could not fault any of them. I read previously about other peoples bad experiences and i am not naive to realise that peoples experiences are different and that there are many members of staff, so i can only judge what we experienced. We loved the spa area , like other reviews have said , you need to take a £1 for the locker which you get back, also take a towel otherwise they are chargeable. There is a pub on site, we only had a look around so didn’t visit it but it looked lovely. We travelled to York by car which was a very easy route, but there is also a bus service near the hotel that i believe is very efficient and has a late night service too. There is a outlet mall not too far away thats worth a visit.
