Oceanside Mahabalipuram
4.9/513 Reviews
Me and Wife spent hours searching for a good clean place to stay and this time we did not want to stay at 5 Star hotel. We got frustrated looking at numerous reviews. Then we narrowed down to Oceanside after we read a review asking people to stop searching. I am so so happy with the room. I booked the room 207 and at arrival i was apprehensive but then after entering the room. I was so assured by seeing the White Clean Sheets (Stain Free) and very very Clean Bathroom and very good slope in the bathing area. I got all that i was looking for: - White crisp Bedsheet - Crisp Pillow Cover And Spotless Blanket Wonderful AC and plenty of Hot Water. For food take a 2 min walk to reach some nice restaurants and again a 3-4 min walk to beach and on return a tap to clean sand off your body and clothes. The stairs may be a concern for senior citizens. They don't serve food but we had planned to eat outside. The owner Jaymesh (?) Was available and very helpful. The young *** on front desk ”Dinesh” is a polite and efficient and the cleaning ladies are sweet. Well spoken . Cons: - No Intercom( that's ok)

Budget place- 4.2k for a family of 3. The ac was working but the intercom wasnt. The sheets were lindted and hence a bit rough but linen was clean for sure. The washroom too was old but well maintained. The reception staff is not very welcoming or smiling or even courteous but they will listen to u if you insist for anything. The extra bed was good stable with a okish mattress but the blanket for the extra bedding was really torn and bad and had to request the staff to change but he didnt hear it and was pestering for tip. Finally we went to the reception to request for the blanket and they did it in first go. The serving staff in the morning breakfast was better and also Jason was quite good. All in all 4 star for budget stay. The best part is that their corner rooms are quite quite spacious.
Rajalakshmi Guest House

We had a short 2 night stay here whilst visiting the temples. Nice little guesthouse on a road stuffed full of them. Our room was small, but very clean and comfortable. The bed was fine and the A/C worked well in the room we had. There is a cafe/central area at the end of the building on the first floor that was a nice area to sit and read or relax. We only ate one breakfast there of a small omelette which was OK. Can't really comment on the rest of the food as we didn't have any. What I would say is that here, ***** with all of the surrounding area, are very specifically targeted towards tourists/travellers. The food that they serve and the prices they they charge all reflect this. If you want much better, cheaper Indian food, head to the small road to the left of the bus station and go 25m down there for an excellent place Mamalla Bhavan??). My only negative (hence 4 stars) was that they simply couldn't get the Internet working for us at all. They tried for 3 days, and even gave us the next door guesthouse and the cafe wifi, but they all kept disappearing. Maybe not their fault, but I could get the WiFi signal from the 2 guesthouses opposite the whole time. Not a big issue, but as we were trying to book future hotels, just a bit of a pain.
Siva Guest House

I found Siva Guest House on Booking.com and it looked the ideal place for me to stay at, as a single traveller. I have not been disappointed. From the moment I arrived the owner, Rama, and his ***ager Kumar have been most welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms are set around a courtyard and are very clean, have all the basic requirements and are comfortable. Tea and and coffee-making facilities in the rooms were an added bonus. The room rate is very good value. I couldn’t wish for a nicer place to stay. I shall miss everyone when I travel on to Pondicherry next week.
