I was planning to go for a drive to Izu in the autumn leaves season, and this inn that I had been interested in for a while happened to have one room available on the weekend, so I immediately made a reservation. After sightseeing around Shuzenji, I drove towards Amagi Pass and found the entrance to the inn at the end of a quiet road away from the tourist spots. The room was the River Wing Suite, a room with an open-air bath along the mountain stream, and it was a luxurious design with a large window at the front of the room. The open-air bath was located on a wide balcony and was a large size for a room attachment, so I was able to relax in the bath while looking at the trees of the Satoyama and the flow of the Kano River, which helped to relieve my daily fatigue. For dinner, we moved to a separate building, which had windows all over the wide, horizontal space so that we could see the trees. The restaurant was divided into a counter in front of the open kitchen and tables with some steps and distance between them. We ate at a table. The first tapas was served on a large base reminiscent of a fallen tree, and the red shrimp salad was served in a test tube sauce. At first, we were surprised by the unique style, but the menu continued with refined flavors and textures, making use of ingredients from the mountains and seas of Izu, such as gamecock, black mutsu, and Amagi deer. Dinner was quite long, but the staff who served us explained a lot, and we could see that they had paid attention to the tableware and cutlery, and even the small sweets in the final box were made with the desire to make the guests enjoyable. The next morning, we woke up to the sound of the river babbling, took a morning bath while watching the view bathed in the morning sun, and then had breakfast at the counter. Arcana is a modern building that suddenly appears there. The inn is conscious of a completely private space, and there is no lobby or common space. The only place where customers come into contact with each other is the restaurant, but this place is also a stage where everyone is facing the same direction, so it is designed so that customers cannot see each other's faces. Some of them create the a**osphere of the restaurant, including the bustle of other customers, but this is definitely different. I want to put away all my vanity, pretentiousness, grudges, and heavy burdens on my shoulders, and enjoy my meal in a relaxed manner. There is no TV, magazines, newspapers or other sources of information in the room. The only radio-cassette player has one FM station, and the sound quality is cut off. You can see how deep this place is in the mountains. When I returned to my room after my meal, all the towels and gowns I had used before taking a bath were replaced with new ones, and in addition to setting things like bed making and herbal tea, I was playing a relaxation CD for sleep.
