Unfortunately when we stopped at Laguna Lodge the rain did not stop. But it didn't dampen our spirits and we were still able to go out onto the canal in the boats and so lucky to see crocs, countless iguana species, birds, parrots. Back at the lodge we had howler monkeys on our roof waking us up in the morning and were lucky enough to see a mum and baby in a tree in the resort. We also did the nature walks around the hotel and saw lots of frogs and lizards. During our 2 night stay we also did a trip to Tortuguero village to see Costa Rica's Caribbean heritage and learn about the work they are doing to help sea turtles which was a great day. Highly recommend this place. Great accommodation, we had fun playing cards with another couple one night sharing a bottle of wine in the bar area. Food was a good standard, staff were friendly and attentive and of course the wildlife and the fact you are on a river is just amazing.

Great eco lodge with a great naturalist guided tours. It takes a while to get there but the last part of the trip is through the canals so you can start to see the amazing wildlife. The hotel is comfortable with great staff and lovely pools. The trip included a guided boat tour of the park and we also added the awakening tour. Such an array of wildlife , spotted the sloths - well the boat and naturalist did ! Beautiful birds and reptiles. Beware the mosquitoes. Shirley our guide was helpful and very knowledgeable- thank you Shirley .

In line with expectations. Yes, the lodges are small, there’s no hanging space and the are a bit dingy but that’s pretty much what we expected based on descriptions. Wasn’t anticipating the cockroach in the bathroom. We were on a tour with other couples and several others also had same problem. Swimming pools are lovely and the Gaudi inspired mosaics everywhere are a nice touch. Mealtimes were chaotic. Really busy with group tours on big tables but food was actually good and plentiful. Rooms can be noisy but it is mostly due to wildlife which is kind of the reason we were there in the first place so can’t complain about that. Could do without the Randy dogs round your legs in restaurant!

We had 2 nights here as part of a group tour and really enjoyed it. The bedrooms are quite basic with only a fan, but perfectly comfortable and we slept well. Lovely location on a thin ***** of land with the river one side, and the beach with sunrise views the other. We saw lots of wildlife just wandering around the grounds - toucans, sloths, monkeys, pendulum birds, hummingbirds etc. 2 good sized pools, one with lots of pendulum birds nesting in the tree right above! Amazing riverside bar for sunset with great ice cold beers and good cocktails. Excellent buffet food for all 3 meals. We went on 2 river boat trips and saw lots of wildlife. Highly recommended.

Even though this was the most basic hotel on our trip it was my favourite. The setting is incredible river on one side ocean on the other . Food was ok it’s a full board hotel , drinks were a little expensive . The excursion’s especially the boat trip was amazing . Staff are all lovely . Be warned you will be woken up early by the amazing sounds especially the howler monkeys 😄

The journey to the lodge is approximately 90mins by boat from transfer station but pleasant. The lodge is well positioned for boat trips to observe the wildlife. Buffets were of a good standard and rooms were clean and tidy. Staff friendly and helpful. The best thing was the abundance of wildlife. The only thing we found was the drinks were a little expensive.

Traveling to Laguna Lodge was an adventure. We were brought in by boat along the river. The trip took just over an hour and there was a lot of wildlife to see. It's a busy transportation route as the towns of Tortuguero and San Francisco can only be access by river or by airplane. The lodge itself has a rustic look, though the rooms are a bit dated, they are clean and well maintained. There is no air conditioning, however with the fan on at night I wasn't the least bit uncomfortable. The dining room is huge and there are two buffet areas and a made-to-order table in the middle where they would make tacos to order, or omelets. The food was very good and there is water and fruit juice included. They also have wait staff bring around wine and beer for those who wish. My first morning @ Los Lagos I opted to go on the 5:30 a.m. boat cruise to catch the wildlife as the sun comes up. I'm very glad I did. Our guide for us was a fellow named Sebastian who was very knowledgeable and has a great attitude. Additionally the boat captain, Jordan (aka Eagle Eye), was amazing at finding wildlife. We saw an otter, all 3 species of monkey - including a Howler Monkey swimming in the river (how it got there is anyone's guess). We saw Tiger Herons, Little Blue Herons, Juvenile Night Heron, Green Heron, Jacanas, Yellow-throated Toucan, Green Macaws. The following day on the lodge property I was able to see a Pale Billed Woodpecker and a Long-Billed Hermit. There are Toucans and Macaws that around the lodge and a spotted them more than once. There are also a few very large iguanas. For nature lovers you really can't do much better than taking in Laguna Lodge. Highly recommend. Oh and for the birders out there - I was able to spot (and photograph) a Black-headed Trogon pair (M&F).

This resort is an excellent location in Tortuguero National Park which is a remote location in the middle of the jungle. After a long bus and boat ride, it was a welcome sight to see this lovely resort. The resort is rustic, yet clean and nice, and even though there is no air conditioning, it's not too warm at night and the fans make it comfortable and the beds are nice and firm. The food is basic yet good. At the bar, the drinks and service could be better. The cocktails are very sweet, and the service tended to be slow. The swimming pools were nice and relaxing, and the beach was remote and beautiful. I would recommend going onto the beach to see the stars at night, and the animals at the resort are amazing.

We stayed at Laguna as part of the Exoticca tour across Costa Rica. It was an amazing experience from the boat transfer in with a great guide Abel. The property is an Eco Lodge and is exactly what you would expect, not 5+ stars and basic but true to its mission. The food was plentiful and tasty at each meal and all the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. A must if you are travelling to the area
