Before I arrived, I hadn't booked the Backpackers' Ten Years Youth Hostel. I'd actually reserved a spot at Nanfengchu Sea Youth Hostel on Wuyi Road. However, that place, due to age restrictions, refused my check-in. In over twenty years of staying at youth hostels across the country, this was the first time I'd encountered such a frustrating refusal. So, I reluctantly turned to Changsha Backpackers' Ten Years Youth Hostel, and thankfully, they welcomed me with immense warmth. As a long-time backpacker, I was incredibly grateful.
I've always known Backpackers' Ten Years is an industry benchmark, and staying here confirmed it: the 1.2-meter beds are very soft and comfortable, and the bunks offer great privacy with curtains, reading lamps, bedside tables, and clothes rails. I also noticed that the room's air conditioning was a new upright unit, and the hostel didn't interfere with it running 24 hours a day. This is so much better than other youth hostels, providing guests with the most comfortable living environment possible. There are many restrooms in the hostel, and the showers come with shampoo and body wash. All in all, my three-day stay at Changsha Backpackers' Ten Years, as someone who has stayed in so many youth hostels nationwide, left me nothing but impressed.
I hope Backpackers' Ten Years opens more branches across the country to accommodate more backpackers like us.
Overall it's very good. It's not far from the train station and next to the commercial street. The only drawback is that the location is hard to find. It is recommended to contact the boss in advance. The house has about three bedrooms and one living room. The living room is very big. The boss has prepared a lot of food. The bedroom is not small and can be put in. There are still 3 beds available. The quilt pattern is very unique. There is a balcony which is very popular. It is very convenient to dry clothes. Everyone is relatively quiet. The stay experience is good.
The hostel was great. The bed was comfortable in a 4 female only dorm. I was able to use the washing machine on the roof, the shower had shampoo and showed gel, toilet paper, normal toilet, not squat, AC, and the guy at the reception desk was very kind. He speaks enough English and if you need to ask something specific just use Google translate. Amazing location, very close to the center and super cheap. Lots of mosquitoes though so use bug spray to sleep.

My friends and I were immediately amazed upon arrival! ʱªʱªʱª (ᕑᗢᓫ∗)˒ The first thing that caught our eye was a courtyard with well-placed greenery (perfect for taking photos 📸). There were two small dogs 🐶 and a small cat 🐱, and even a guitar 🎸. A feeling of happiness immediately washed over us. The interior and rooms were decorated in a warm and simple style, super clean and tidy, with no unpleasant smells. The rooms weren't large, but the furnishings were very cozy. Books, small potted plants, a large full-length mirror, and a table piled high with cosmetics… all of these delighted us and instantly chased away the fatigue from my long journey (๑ºั╰╯ºั๑). The night view was also quite nice; the warm yellow lights in front of the courtyard 💡 illuminated the entire street, creating a tranquil and blissful atmosphere. The beautiful receptionist was also very kind 🥰 It's very close to Yuelu Mountain (just around the corner) and super close to the subway station! For me, I gave it a super positive review (but I'm definitely not a shill haha). I'm so grateful to my friend for booking such a great hotel. I'm so happy. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Changsha!
I didn’t expect hotel bookings to be so popular during the Spring Festival holiday. We arrived at Mugen Youth Hostel at around 10 pm on the third day of the Chinese New Year. Since we were traveling as a family, the male and female combination did not quite meet the requirements of the youth hostel. However, the owner was careful and enthusiastic in contacting a room for us. Unfortunately, the surrounding area was too crowded that night. In the end, he still found a way to make room for us, solving the big problem of accommodation. I give a big thumbs up to that group of enthusiastic young people 👍 Moreover, the accommodation and sanitary environment of the hostel are really quite good, the price is affordable, and the room is clean and tidy. Even a middle-aged aunt like me was surprised. The rooms are divided into male and female rooms, and they are not mixed. A room usually has six beds, two bathrooms, spacious space, and private storage space. There are public entertainment facilities outside, including a book bar, games, billiards, etc. It is really suitable for young backpackers.

Very good hostel. The dorm is spacious, the bed is confortable and everything is so clean. Good location, with restauranta and groceries nearby and at walking distance to the cable car and bus station. But the best was the staff, very thoughtful ans frendly. They patiently gave me all the information I needed to go to Tianmen and the National Park. I would stay here again and reccomend
I can just simply say that I would definitely stay at this hostel. The owner is super friendly, but mainly I want to emphasize the kindness. She took care of me as if I were part of her family. The hostel itself is super clean, just 1 min by walk to the main river. Even though, it’s surrounded by many shops , it didn’t bother me and have a good sleep at night. Traditional Chinese breakfast is also included. The bed is also comfy. The owner does not speak English but she makes everything in her hands to make you feel like in home.

[Parks info below] I'm glad that I checked out this hostel, good value for money. Room was nice and tidy, lots of electricity sources in bed and common area, curtains, hot shower. I shared the 6 beds dorm with just another girl, and you make your own bed. No toilet paper, no free water refill, no light in bed. It's worth the price. If you extend your stay directly in the hostel it's cheaper than the app.
The reception area is more cramped but you can socialize there. Most of the people are Chinese but I also met some foreigners. The guy in the reception speaks English and can give you information, in addition to that I recommend you to do your own research. There are two baby cats playing around, and an adult one.
You can get to the hostel from the west railway station by bus line 17 for 2 yuan - last bus at 8:40pm + 15 minutes walk. Location is close to the main avenue where there's a lot of restaurants, and a 24-hour convenience store close to the corner with this same avenue. There are two night markets in the city, one on the avenue like 10 min distance walking to downtown direction, more local, and another one on the street in front of the tianmen mountain cable car, more touristy. The hostel is 15 minutes walking to the central bus station where you can get the bus to zhangjiajie park and 15-20 to the tianmen mountain cable car station.
[ATTRACTIONS] Zhangjiajie (avatar), tianmen (heaven's gate) and canyon (glass bridge) are 3 different parks in different locations.
The entrance to zhangjiajie gives you access for 4 days. I went the 4 days and enjoyed it very properly. If you're short on time, 2 days will do, but plan it wisely based on your priorities. Gates are 1 hour trip distance from the central bus station - 1h30 at weekends. Also, note that before entering the park with passport and face scan, you need to do an APPOINTMENT for that hour. You usually do it there at the gate, but for a saturday all appointments for that hour were sold out in advance and I had to wait for 45 minutes to go in. Recommended to check in advance especially on weekends.
There are 2 types of tickets you can get: including all cable cars and elevator for unlimited time for 450 yuan; or just the entrance (including only free shuttles) for 215 yuan - you still have the option of buying each transport at the park (75 yuan cablecar one-way, 65 elevator one-way). At first, I had understood that to see the avatar mountains, the ONLY way was through the elevator, so I bought the all-inclusive. Turns out you CAN go by free shuttle + hike + free shuttle if you start in the east gate. My favorite part was the huangshi village.
For tianmen, the entrance is 260 yuan. Choose the route in advance because some sell out fast. Gold advice: go at least one hour or more BEFORE the hour that you have the tickets for. The hour of your ticket just matters before the very last point before boarding the cable car. The line was MASSIVE and it took me 2h30 waiting on a Monday - ended up getting in 2 hours late than my ticket time and couldn't finish the whole loop: took only the red trail and went down to the heaven's gate.
About the Canyon, I can't say much because I decided to skip it and save the 210 yuan ticket - note that this price DOESN'T include the activities, you must pay separately. The package that includes almost* everything is 360 yuan.
Last but not least, if you go to the 72 Wonders, there's also an entrance of 88 yuan. You can go/come back with the bus 17 - same line that serves to the west railway station, last bus 8:40pm.
Environment: Clean and tidy, close to the road, the traffic volume is not too big, but after turning off the lights at night, mosquitoes will come to me to express their helplessness!
Service: The boss will enthusiastically explain various attractions
The location is excellent. Just a few steps to the right when you go out, there are various small food shops. It is also very close to the riverside, which is perfect for satisfying the needs of fans. It is only a 10-minute walk from Xiaodongjiang Scenic Area.

AAnonymous UserThis was a great location. Less than 10 minute walk to the East Gate. There is a night market right outside the accommodation and plenty of restaurants. The hotel also has discounts at various restaurants. We really enjoyed the one across the road, and we ate the chicken with Rock Ear. The host is very helpful and can provide a map and a route for the National Park which is essential! It's very hard without her help. She is very responsive on WeChat and is helpful for any questions you may have. Great facilities and location. We would stay here again.

JjayonesGreat all around. The location is just right outside the national park only a 10 min walk. The owner is very friendly and cute, helps out alot and has very good English. The rooms are huge and very clean with good pressure and hot water for showering. Only slight comment is that during Mar colder months the lobby where games and activities are held was extra cold

GGuest UserWow, where do I start! This was probably the best hotel we stayed in China! The owner was so lovely and really wanted to speak English with us! We enjoyed speaking with her in the evening time. While there was no drinking water, you're welcome to use the washing machine which after a long & hot day in the National Park it's needed! The room is very big and comfortable - lots of space to store items if needed. Strong WIFI - there is a router in each room (found this to be common in China) and a TV. The location is great - a very short walk to the East gate of the park so getting in and out was so simple. Within a 5 minute walk there are heaps of restaurants and convenience stores. We really enjoyed our two nights here and honestly didn't want to leave. It's such a great hotel and the owner was just lovely! I would definitely recommend to stay here and I hope I get the chance to return one day!
GGuest UserThe proprietress is very good, and she also upgraded our room for free, great. It takes a little walk to get to the hotel after entering the scenic spot. There were not many people in the scenic spot that day, so you can enjoy the facilities provided. Ironing is quite shocking for our foreigners.

Very Good
GGuest UserRight from the lobby, you'll find a water dispenser and a comfortable spot to eat any takeout. They often play some pleasant music, and everyone seems very courteous.
Moving on to the sleeping quarters, the beds are significantly larger than typical university dorm beds. What's more, unlike some hotels, the rooms are entirely free of smoke or other stale odors; instead, they have a pleasant, fresh scent. There are also plenty of charging outlets. A thoughtful touch in the corridors are projected lights that conveniently guide you in the right direction. My only minor gripe: if you're on the top bunk, the ladder is quite hard and can be a bit uncomfortable on the feet.
The washrooms are also impressive. They stock quality, branded toiletries, and the hairdryer station features a generously sized mirror. You'll never run out of toilet paper – the stall I used had three rolls! I appreciated that they provide both Western-style and squat toilets, which is a nice option often missing in standard hotels. Plus, the exhaust fans are constantly running, ensuring good ventilation.
Absolutely delighted! I truly believe this is the best hostel I've ever stayed at.

GGuest UserThere is a parking lot, the front desk service is enthusiastic, and the facilities and equipment are gradually being upgraded. Other floors have been transformed into Lavande Hotel. I don’t know if I will get this price next time.
GGuest UserI was genuinely surprised to get Tianmen Mountain views at this price point! The sight of the cable cars passing right by the window was truly captivating. Transportation was also incredibly convenient. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit to Zhangjiajie!
