Reviews: Carnival Conquest

Guest user2019-10-08

We were very satisfied with our family's Caribbean East Coast cruise on the Carnival Conquest, which we booked through Ctrip. Since not many Chinese people travel this route, our review may be more relevant. Carnival Corporation is the world's largest cruise company, owning many famous brands, including Costa Rica. Having operated cruise ships for many years, Carnival's service is consistently high-standard and thorough. It's highly recommended to download the Carnival mobile app beforehand; it's very useful. Before boarding, a countdown timer informs you of your boarding time. Once on board, you can connect to the ship's free Wi-Fi to access all information, from boarding and disembarkation times to daily entertainment programs, and even check all expenses. Of course, there are also machines on board to check these information. The app displays detailed information such as photos, ship details, and location. It's best to install the app off-board, as internet access on board is charged, with different prices for different connection methods. This cruise ship had very few Chinese passengers and even fewer from other countries; it was mainly populated by Americans and Canadians, predominantly Americans. Not speaking English can be a bit of a challenge. However, the service staff consists of people from various countries, and almost none of the nearly 1,000 staff are Chinese, making it very inconvenient not to speak English. All entertainment programs are in English. For formal meals on board, formal attire is required, preferably dress code, as etiquette is important. Dress codes are less strict for non-formal meals. Arrival on time is expected; try not to be late, as you may be refused service. The Lido Restaurant offers 24-hour service, but standard service is provided during mealtimes. The Carnival's main focus is on fun. From boarding, the cruise line goes to great lengths to make passengers happy; even towels are folded into cute animals, and there are free activities to teach you how to fold towels into animals. There's a library, opera, concerts, talk shows, shore excursions, bars, nightclubs, a swimming pool, table tennis, and much more—everything you could want. Basically, they do everything they can to make you happy. The cabins have TVs where you can watch free news, movies, and more. Enough said, right?

The cruise experience was great. We stayed in a balcony cabin, which was very spacious. The ship's entertainment facilities were incredibly abundant; we went on the water slides several times. Cocoa Bay, which we visited, was also very interesting; it's Royal Caribbean's own island. We bought drink packages and enthusiastically tried out various bars and beverages. I highly recommend the juice bar next to the spa, which offers freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. I even participated in the Black Jack Championship and the Table Tennis Championship, winning a silver medal.

Of the four cruise ships we took, this was the best and offered the best value for money; in my opinion, it was even better than the Seas series, which cost twice as much. I must first commend the staff at the Ctrip Cruises center; they were incredibly helpful in contacting the cruise line to reserve drinks and Wi-Fi packages for me, and they were fantastic, especially the onboard juice bar, which used high-quality ingredients and was well worth the package price. The cruise ship was very large, with an elegant environment and abundant entertainment options, particularly the adventure track on the top deck, the large slide in Central Park, and finally a windless ping-pong area. The entertainment director was also incredibly capable and impressive; it would have been better if there were more billiard tables. The food was excellent, featuring Italian specialties, and was the most to my liking of the four cruises we took. The rooms were slightly larger than on other cruise ships, and the cabin attendant (I think her name was Sharon) was a friendly and responsible Black woman.

One of the world's largest cruise ships, it truly is a behemoth, as shown in the comparison photos. The ship boasts state-of-the-art facilities and a strong sense of technology. It features a grand theater, a floating theater, an ice theater, a central terrace, and a central promenade offering a rich array of performances. The water attractions are enormous, including a carousel, making it a true paradise for children. The food is excellent, with lobster and crayfish available on several days. The 24-hour bar in the central courtyard is great, with a comfortable environment and superb sea views. Snacks and drinks are available all day, and there's always a place to stretch your legs, even late at night.

My 10-day, 9-night Caribbean cruise on the Queen Elizabeth has come to an end, but I still feel like it's not enough. The service and food were superb, the accommodations were excellent and comfortable, the activities were plentiful, and the scenery of the countries we visited each day was stunning. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm so happy! 🥳

Reviews: Norwegian Joy

Anonymous user2026-10-03

My husband and I booked a 12-day cruise on the Norwegian Joy, featuring Alaskan glaciers and the Northern Lights, organized by Shanghai EasyFly Travel – EasyCruise, starting September 20, 2026, through Ctrip. This itinerary offered excellent value, with a 12-day ocean-view balcony cabin costing only 24,999 RMB per person, including all-Chinese-speaking shore excursions. We saw the Mendenhall Glacier and Johns Hopkins Glacier, the highest glacier in Glacier Bay National Park. This cruise route offers a chance to see the Northern Lights in April and September each year. During our cruise from Juneau to Skagway, we encountered several spectacular aurora displays, capturing clear photos and videos on our phones. For just over 20,000 RMB, seeing glaciers and the Northern Lights from a cruise was definitely worthwhile. Our tour leader was Ms. Sun Minhui, the chief tour leader with over 20 years of experience in the cruise industry. This travel agency provides wireless headsets throughout the trip, and the tour leader provides full Chinese commentary during shore excursions. They are highly knowledgeable about cruise culture and organizational structures, both in Alaska and globally, providing tourists with a broad range of information. Our tour leader is also highly professional, carrying a laptop and printer to translate daily reports and write up the next day's notes, ensuring a truly comfortable and worry-free cruise experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must carry a passport with an expiration date that meets the destination's requirements (usually valid for at least 6 months after the cruise ends; please refer to the actual boarding information), your cruise boarding pass (e-ticket or printed copy), and any visas required by all countries/regions on your itinerary. Depending on your nationality, other identification documents (such as a residence card or national ID card) may also be required. Please confirm the final requirements with the relevant embassies or consulates and the cruise line before departure.
Modern large cruise ships are equipped with advanced stabilizers and are routed to avoid rough seas, meaning most passengers never experience noticeable seasickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider booking a cabin on the mid-to-lower decks where movement is minimal. Other helpful tips include packing motion sickness medication, wearing anti-nausea wristbands, and getting fresh air on open decks. Note: Medication availability at the onboard medical center varies, so please check with your specific cruise line.
The vast majority of cruises automatically charge a fixed service fee to your daily cruise card account. For specific rates and collection methods, please refer to the information published by the cruise line after boarding. This fee typically covers basic gratuities for room service, dining staff, and more. Unless you wish to tip extra for exceptional service, additional cash tips are not required. We recommend consulting the cruise line's official guidelines when booking or after boarding.
Most international cruise lines use the US Dollar as their onboard currency. Upon boarding, you will link a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) to your cruise card. The ship operates on a "cashless" system, meaning all onboard purchases (dining, drinks, shopping, service fees) are charged directly to your account and settled at the end of the trip. While you don't need large amounts of cash on board, we recommend bringing some small bills (USD or local currency) for minor expenses and tips at ports of call.
Usually, within an hour after leaving port, your phone will connect to a maritime roaming network, which carries extremely high call and data roaming charges (often exceeding US$ 5/minute). We strongly advise putting your phone in Airplane Mode and relying solely on the ship's Wi-Fi. Most ships offer paid Wi-Fi packages. Purchasing a voyage-long package is generally much more cost-effective than paying by the day. Some luxury cruise lines include basic Wi-Fi in your fare.
Every international cruise ship is equipped with a medical center staffed by at least one internationally certified doctor and nurse. They are fully capable of treating common illnesses (colds, gastroenteritis) and minor injuries. Please note: Onboard medical care is quite expensive, and the pharmacy has limited stock. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with cruise medical coverage and packing an ample supply of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you regularly use.
After boarding, you must attend a mandatory safety drill (usually required to be completed within 24 hours). During the drill, you will hear the ship's dedicated alarm signal. Please immediately put on your life jacket (located in your cabin closet) and follow the evacuation route map on the back of your door to your designated assembly station. Please keep in mind: Do not use the elevators, follow the crew's instructions, and stay calm. Even if you have been on multiple cruises, you must participate in the drill on every new voyage. Please refer to the ship's on-site broadcasts and guidance for the specific signal and assembly location.
The night before disembarkation, affix luggage tags to all checked bags as instructed by the cruise operator and leave them at the marked zone outside your cabin. Do not pack items required for the next day such as daily wear, official documents and valuables into checked luggage. Retain your passport, room key and hand luggage with yourself. On disembark day, exit your cabin by the stated timing and proceed ashore in allocated groups per announcements. Avoid remaining inside the cabin. Inspect every drawer, closet and cabin safe thoroughly. Exact timings and baggage rules follow the cruise line’s Disembarkation Guide.

The m/s Paul Gauguin has completed its multi-million-dollar refurbishment

The m/s Paul Gauguin has completed its multi-million-dollar refurbishment

Paul Gauguin Cruises, the French Polynesia destination expert and winner of Condé Nast Traveler's 2024 Readers' Choice Award for "Best Small Cruise Ship," announced that the 330-passenger m/s Paul Gauguin has recently completed a seven-week refurbishment in Singapore. This comprehensive multi-million-dollar renovation features refreshed spatial designs, upgraded guest facilities, and sustainable technology enhancements to continuously elevate passengers' "seamless and carefree" cruise experience. Key highlights of the refurbishment include a modern makeover for the popular Le Grill restaurant, a redesigned pool deck with shaded cabana seating areas, four new connecting staterooms, updated soft furnishings throughout the ship, and sustainable technology upgrades. The redesign was led by globally renowned transportation design firm Stirling Design International, whose innovative approach perfectly aligns with Paul Gauguin Cruises' artistic ambiance and authentic exploration ethos. Interwoven latticework, canvas elements, and warm wood finishes harmonize beautifully with breathtaking tropical landscapes, showcasing a modern aesthetic that coexists with nature. Refurbishment highlights of m/s Paul Gauguin: Connecting Staterooms: Four new connecting staterooms have been added on Deck 7 to meet the growing demand for multigenerational (family) travel, complementing the highly successful "Moana Explorer Program" for children aged 6 to 15—a program developed in partnership with Te mana o te moana, the South Pacific's premier marine education and conservation foundation. Le Grill Restaurant Makeover: The open-air restaurant by the pool features a stylish, contemporary design with white wooden screens, ceramic tiles, soft oak furniture, and chic lighting, creating an elegant dining atmosphere for guests to enjoy the ship's renowned culinary offerings. Pool Deck Transformation: The pool deck now boasts new white canopies providing shade for cabana-style seating areas, while the pool's exterior is adorned with new mosaic tiles. Spacious white loungers surround the space, offering guests a perfect spot for relaxation. Sustainable Technology: The ship now features advanced heat recovery systems, high-efficiency chillers, and optimized electric motors to significantly reduce energy consumption. A new seawater treatment system produces fresh water onboard, while the Nordaq filtration system creates drinking water from seawater, helping eliminate plastic bottles and minimize single-use plastics. Waste management improvements include glass crushers and cardboard compactors for efficient recycling. Visual Upgrades: Paying homage to parent company PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP, the ship's funnel now displays PONANT's iconic "Three Sails" logo, crafted from polished steel with LED backlighting for striking nighttime visibility. Additionally, Paul Gauguin Cruises' "P-shaped emblem" is prominently positioned at the bow of Deck 8, while the sleek white hull incorporates modern gray accents. These designs reflect the shared values of the group's brands, embodying a commitment to authentic exploration and maritime spirit. The m/s Paul Gauguin returned to French Polynesia in May for year-round operations, continuing to offer its award-winning all-inclusive luxury cruises with 7- to 14-night island itineraries to the Society Islands, Tuamotu Archipelago, Cook Islands, and Marquesas Islands.
