In town, hotel names are mostly in Chinese characters, so if you can't read Chinese, you won't know which hotel it is unless you're dropped off directly by a shuttle. This hotel is by far the largest and oldest in Boten. What I found out during my stay is that the interior is sparkling new, the Wi-Fi signal is weak, only a few TV channels in Chinese and Lao are available, and there's no refrigerator in the room. Is this because tourists just pass through this border town between Laos and China, which also has a high-speed rail station? It's a shame, but perhaps understandable.

Let's start with the positives: the room was clean and tidy, but also completely overpriced. We had booked 3 nights through Trip.com and were told we'd have to switch rooms after two nights because they were fully booked. We were also told we could cancel the last night if we didn't want to stay. We wanted to check out the hotel first and said we'd get back to them. The odd thing was, we were the only guests. We ended up checking out a night early. We were told to cancel via Trip.com, and of course, a cancellation for the last night was not accepted. We also got the feeling they were glad to see us go. The supposed restaurant wasn't even open, so you have to go into the village. Incidentally, another reviewer was also fed the same story about the supposedly fully booked hotel. The breakfast was sufficient and the service was friendly.

The hotel boasts a superior environment and excellent views. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. It's close to the border crossing and conveniently located near supermarkets, convenience stores, and restaurants in Boten.
